INDIVIDUAL NOTES

FIRST SEASON AS FOR NO. 19: Jason Spezza was appointed the eighth captain in Senators franchise history in mid- September. The Mississauga, Ont., native succeeded who served in the role for 13 consecutive seasons. Spezza, who is assisted by alternates Chris Neil and Chris Phillips, is the current active franchise leader in goals (238), assists (410), points (648) and only trails Phillips (+79) for the active lead in plus-minus rating (+72).

JOEY C. IS TEEING 'EM UP: Senators defenceman Joe Corvo became the 45th player in franchise history to surpass 300 shots on goal for the club when he registered four shots in Monday's 5-4 home shootout win over Philadelphia. The native of Oak Park, Ill., has skated in 142 games for Ottawa over the course of his career, which could see the veteran blueliner reach 700 NHL games as early as later this week. Should he dress this evening in Buffalo, Corvo will make a return to the site of one of his biggest goals -- the overtime winner 4:58 into the second overtime period of the Senators' 4-3 Game 2 win over the Sabres in the 2007 Eastern Conference Final.

MORE THAN JUST A PROVINCE IN COMMON: When the Senators registered 50 shots on goal in Saturday's 4-3 shootout setback to Toronto, it marked the second consecutive game that the Maple Leafs allowed exactly 50 shots on net after having done so in their 3-2 overtime win against Dallas two nights earlier at Air Canada Centre. It marked the second time his season that an NHL team had allowed at least 50 shots on goal in each of two consecutive games. The Senators did so on October 12 and 13 in setbacks at San Jose (50 shots) and Anaheim (56 shots). That had happened only once in the previous 30 NHL seasons, by the Florida Panthers in April 2006. ALL-TIME LEADERS: Daniel Alfredsson holds the Senators' all-time lead in games played (1,178), goals (426), assists (682) and points (1,108) ... Neil leads in penalty minutes (2,093) while former goaltender Patrick Lalime holds the lead in games played (283), wins (146) and shutouts (30).

COACH MACLEAN: Ottawa's season-opener in Buffalo marked the beginning of head coach Paul MacLean's third campaign in the nation's capital ... MacLean, who was hired by the Senators as the 10th head coach in franchise history on 6/14/11, earned his first NHL coaching victory with a 4-3 home shootout win over Minnesota on 10/11/11 and currently ranks fourth all-time among team coaches in victories (78).
