On April 12 the ‘interim’ tag was removed, making him the fulltime head coach of the Islanders.

Prior to assuming the role, the Detroit, Mich. native served as Assistant Coach and Assistant GM.

Weight, a four-time NHL All-Star, was named the 12th captain in Islanders history on October 2, 2009.
