BACK-TO-BACK GAMES The Maple Leafs will play on consecutive nights 16 times this season, posting a record of 3-2-0 in the first game and 4-1-0 in the second contest so far. Last season, Toronto played nine back-to-back games, posting a record of 5-3-1 in the first game and 4-4-1 in the second contest.

LEAFS STRIKE QUICK, THEN GO SILENT On Nov. 27 during a 6-5 shootout loss to the Penguins, the Maple Leafs scored two goals in the first 42 seconds of the second period (van Riemsdyk - 0:13 / Kessel 0:42). The last time Toronto had two goals that quick to start a period was in March of 1984 (Rick Vaive / John Anderson, 27 seconds). The Leafs then went shotless in the third period, marking the first time since Apr. 3, 2000 at Buffalo the team failed to register a shot on goal in a period. REIMER GETS A WORKOUT James Reimer stopped 49 of the Capitals' 50 shots on goal in his shootout win on Nov. 23. According to Elias, it marked the third time in November that an NHL goaltender has recorded a shootout victory after facing 50 or more shots on goal during the "real hockey" part of the game. The other netminders to do that were the Coyotes' Mike Smith (Nov. 2) and the Sabres' Ryan Miller (Nov. 5), both in games at San Jose. Before this month no NHL goaltender had pulled off that feat since the Oilers' on April 10, 2010 at Los Angeles.

LUPUL HELPS ON THREE From Elias: Joffrey Lupul equaled his career high for assists in one game when he helped set up three goals in the Maple Leafs' 5-2 win over the Islanders on Nov. 19. Lupul was the first Maple Leafs player to register three assists in one game since April 18 last season, when Phil Kessel tallied three assists in another Toronto home game against the Islanders.

MILESTONES FOR KESSEL Phil Kessel scored twice on Nov. 19 versus the New York Islanders, posting his 400th career NHL point on the second goal. Kessel now has 198 goals and 203 assists in 529 career NHL games. He also played his 300th game as a Maple Leaf on Nov. 13 at Minnesota and currently has 275 points (132 goals, 143 assists) with 98 penalty minutes in 307 games with Toronto. His 275 points ranks 39th among all-time franchise scoring leaders, just 10 points behind Harry Watson (285 points in 500 games) for 38th.

LEAFS END 13-GAME STREAK OF BEING OUTSHOT The Maple Leafs ended their 13-game span (Oct. 8-Nov. 8) of being outshot on Oct. 9 when they matched the Bruins with 34 shots in a 3-1 loss. In that 13-game stretch, the Leafs were outshot by a total of 167 shots on goal (482-315), yet went three games over .500 (8- 5-0). According to Elias, this was the Leafs' longest streak of consecutive games with a shot disadvantage since the 2002-03 season when they were also outshot in 13 straight games (Dec. 27-Jan. 21).

CARLYLE REACHES FULL SEASON'S WORTH OF GAMES AS HEAD COACH OF LEAFS Randy Carlye coached his 82nd regular season game as Head Coach of the Maple Leafs on Nov. 8 vs. New Jersey. Through his first 82 games, Carlyle posted a record of 43-31-8 (.573%). Carlyle's full coaching record with the Maple Leafs to date is as follows: Year, G, Record(W-L-OT), PTS, % 11/12, 18, 6-9-3, 15, .417 12/13, 48, 26-17-5, 57, .584 13/14, 25, 14-9-2, 30, .600 TOTAL, 91, 46-35-10, 102, .560

FOUR SHORTIES FOR LEAFS IN OCTOBER From Elias: James van Riemsdyk and Paul Ranger each scored shorthanded goals for the Maple Leafs in their 4-2 win over the Flames on Oct. 30. They were the third and fourth shorthanded tallies in the first month of the season for the Leafs, who recorded only one SHG in 48 games during the entire lockout-shortended 2012-13 campaign. The Maple Leafs' four shorthanded goals in October are the most the team has scored in one calendar month since December 2005, when they had five (Mats Sundin 2, Alexei Ponikarovsky 2, Matt Stajan 1).

TREVOR SMITH BECOMES 900th PLAYER IN FRANCHISE HISTORY Trevor Smith made his Maple Leafs debut on Oct. 8 vs. Colorado and became the 900th player to play at least one game in Toronto franchise history. To date, 905 players (816 skaters, 89 goaltenders) have played at least one game for the Maple Leafs-St. Pats- Arenas. These totals include four players that only appeared in the playoffs: Eddie Gerard (1922), Gary Collins (1959), Aut Erickson (1967) and Milan Marcetta (1967).

Carlyle became the 16th individual to have both played for the Maple Leafs and then taken on the reins as the team’s coach. The Sudbury, Ontario native played 94 games for the Blue and White from 1976 to 1978, registering two goals and 16 assists. In Carlyle’s first season (2012-13) coaching the Leafs, the team compiled a record of 26-17-5, finished fifth in the Eastern Conference and gained a playoff berth.

Carlyle, a former James Norris Trophy winner with the Pittsburgh Penguins, most recently spent seven seasons as the Anaheim Ducks’ head coach. He led the Ducks to their first Stanley Cup championship (2007), Pacific Division championship (2007) and five playoff appearances (2005-09, 2011). Carlyle’s teams earned at least 98 points in four of his six Anaheim head coaching seasons prior to 2011-12.
