Sunday 23rd August 2020 Matters from Race 18: Race Director Incident Determinations During the Race the RD conducted an investigation at the request of Triple Eight Race Engineering into an Incident at Turn 4 on Lap 35 when Car #18, Mark Winterbottom, overtook Car #97, Shane van Gisbergen, and contact occurred between the two Cars. After reviewing broadcast footage of the Incident and consulting the DSA, the RD determined that there was no evidence of a breach of the Rules by the Driver of Car #18. With his third place finish in Malaysia mid-October, seconds behind Bautista at the chequered flag, it was Simoncelli who was crowned the 2008 250cc champion and the Italian celebrated by completing a helmet-less victory lap around the track. Simoncelli has scored five wins to Bautista's four so far this year, but the Italian has consistently finished on the podium. Mid-season he was on devastating form, finishing second to Mika Kallio in France, and then winning the Spanish and German Grands Prix, finishing second in Britain, and third at the Dutch Grand Prix. In der WEC fuhren die Werkspiloten Marc Lieb, Richard Lietz und Patrick Pilet den vom Team Fel- bermayr-Proton eingesetzten, neuen Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, auf den zweiten Platz der Klasse GTE Pro. In der Amateurkategorie GTE AM erwischten Christian Ried, Gianluca Ro- da und Paolo Ruberti mit dem Sieg im Vorjahres-911 GT3 RSR einen optimalen Saisonstart. Pech für Porsche-Fahrer dagegen in der ALMS: Der 911 GT3 RSR von Flying Lizard Mo- torsports mit Jörg Bergmeister, Patrick Long und Marco Holzer wurde in der Einführungsrun- de von einem Ferrari gerammt. Bergmeister und seine Kollegen schafften noch Platz zehn. Wolf Henzler, Bryan Sellers und Martin Ragginger wurden im Falken Tire-Porsche nach Mo- tortausch Neunte. Ehrung: Hans Herrmann in die Sebring Hall of Fame aufgenommen Mit der Aufnahme in die Hall of Fame ehren die Organisatoren der 12 Stunden von Sebring außerordentliche Rennfahrer für ihre Leistungen. Im Vorfeld des diesjährigen Rennens konn- te Hans Herrmann diese seltene Auszeichnung entgegennehmen. Der ehemalige Porsche- Werksrennfahrer, Jahrgang 1928, gewann unter anderem zweimal den Klassiker in Sebring, verhalf Porsche 1969 und 1970 zur Marken-Weltmeisterschaft und holte für Porsche 1970 gemeinsam mit Richard Attwood den ersten Gesamtsieg in Le Mans.
