Monkleigh Primary School News A PLACE TO SMILE, A PLACE TO SHARE, A PLACE TO SUCCEED

17th Sept 2018 Dear Parents, carers and children

Celebration assembly. We hold our celebration assembly every Friday afternoon. This year children will be given a small certificate to bring home if they have been awarded one that week, this can be for a variety of reasons, good work, perseverance, being kind or helpful etc. We will also continue with our star of the week award, children who are awarded star of the week will come to the staffroom the following week for a drink and biscuit with me.

Our first star’s of the week for this year are: Class R- Jack Class 1 – Poppy C Class 2 - Genevieve Class 3 – Emily Well done to them all! We started our whole school topic on space with a trip to the space dome last week, which was set up in the Village Hall; all the classes had a great experience in the dome and are well into their space topic now. Parking: Please Remember we offer a walking bus service from the village Hall and a drop off service at the front gate to try and help with parking difficulties outside school. If you do need to park outside school, please do not park opposite the school gate as this area is needed for the school bus and our drop off service and please do not block any neighbour’s driveways. Thank you.

We have children with allergies, some of which are life-threatening. Please try to avoid sending your child with yoghurt type products for playtime. Lunchtime is fine as this is closely monitored.

We appreciate your support with this. Karen Reeves (Head Teacher) SECONDARY SCHOOL APPLICATIONS It’s already the time of year for parents of Year 6 children to be applying for secondary school places! Info has been sent to year 6 children – some who have recently joined us may get theirs in the post. The application process opened on Saturday 1 September and closes Wednesday 31 October 2018.

This week College are hosting an open evening, and open mornings. GTS have an open evening this week, with open mornings for year 5/6 children next week. Many thanks for returning your completed Consent Forms (SOE3a) to allow your child to take part in off site activities. If you have not sent in your completed form yet, please do so urgently to ensure your child does not miss out.

Class 3 – Class 3 will be doing Forest School every Monday this year which is very exciting! This means that all children need a full change of clothes for these sessions. Unfortunately, if children do not have their kits they will not be able to participate. Thanks! Class R – any junk modelling materials will be gratefully received in Class R for us to use and create with! Ideally, we would like large 2L type plastic bottles and cereal boxes for an up and coming space project! Thank you!
