The Study on Comprehensive Water Management of Main Report Musi River Basin in the Republic of Indonesia Final Report CHAPTER 3 PRESENT CONDITION OF THE BASIN AND BASIC ANALYSIS 3.1 General Natural Conditions The general natural condition described in this section mainly refers to the Musi River Basin Study in 1989, updating the information and data. 3.1.1 Topography The Musi River Basin covers a total of 59,942 km2 in the south of Sumatra Island between 2°17’ and 4°58’ South latitude and between 102°4’ and 105°20’ East Longitude. It covers most of South Sumatra Province, and only small parts of the Bengkulu, Jambi and Lampung provinces as shown in the Location Map. The topography of the Musi River Basin can be broadly divided into five zones; namely, from the west, the Mountain Zone, the Piedmont Zone, the Central Plains, the Inland Swamps and the Coastal Plains. The Mountain Zone comprises the northwestern to southwestern part of the study area and is composed of valleys, highland plateaus and volcanic cones. The Piedmont Zone is an approximately 40 km wide transition belt between the Mountain Zone and the Central Plains. It is an undulating to hilly area with some flat plains. The central plains consist of three sections, uplands, flood plains and river levees. The Inland Swamps comprise the natural river levees and back swamps. The back swamps are less elevated than the river level and flooded during the rainy season. The Coastal Plain comprises the lowlands along the coast and the deltaic northeastern lowlands, naturally covered with peat swamp forest. -

INTRODUCTION The main objective of economic development in addition to create high growth is also to reduce some levels of poverty and inequality of income between groups either communities or regions. The development policy that prioritizes economic growth has led to increasingly high levels of inequality. A major factor that causes the problem of income inequality is economic growth. High economic growth that is not followed by a proper policy of equitable income distribution would lead to an increasingly widening income inequalityy. -

Cacao Catalogue About
CACAO CATALOGUE ABOUT Yayasan Bersama Lestarikan Nusantara (“Yayasan Belantara”) is an Indonesian grant-making institution formed in 2014 with the goal of delivering wide-ranging community and conservation results. It takes its name from the Indonesian word ‘Belantara’ which means wilderness or pristine forest. Belantara primary focus is to allocate grants to support restoration, protection, conservation of endangered species (specifically Sumatran Tiger, Sumatran Elephant, as well as Sumatran and Bornean Orangutan), Institutional development, and community development and empowerment initiatives in Conservation Area, Production Forest, Protection Forest, and Social Forestry on the ten specified grant distribution areas across five provinces on the islands of Sumatra and Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo). Working with local communities, governments, the private sector and NGOs, Belantara relies on a multi-stakeholder approach to better inform decision-making when addressing resource management problems. As the Essential Ecosystem Areas (KEE) stretch across the grant distribution areas, a coordinated response between all stakeholders for the effective management and preservation of critical ecosystems is required. As an independent foundation, Belantara aims to work with all parties that shares its goals, coordinating and collaborating with partner projects within each of its ten specified grant distribution areas. Belantara aims to ensure that existing initiatives are aligned, minimizing the risk of projects overlapping while maximizing information and data sharing. Co-founder Asia Pulp and Paper significantly contributed in getting the Foundation off the ground, providing substantial financing. Additional financial resources are being raised from the public and private sectors, while investment de-risking initiatives will follow to achieve a more holistic scope of financing modalities. -

A. Indigenous Architecture as Basic Architectural Design 3.1.7 ARCHITECTURAL AND PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF INDIGENOUS LIMAS’ HOUSES IN SOUTH SUMATRA Ari Siswanto (1),Azizah Salim Binti Syed Salim (2),Nur Dalilah Dahlan (3),Ahmad Hariza (4) (1) Ph.D. Student Universiti Putra Malaysia from University of Sriwijaya, Indonesia [email protected] (2) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Universiti Putra Malaysia (3) Dr. Universiti Putra Malaysia ABSTRACT The architecture of Limas traditional house in South Sumatra is influenced by culture and environment. Limas house, differing heights of the floors, divided into 3 parts which are functioning as follows front, middle and rear. Veranda is in the front for the guests and the sons. The middle part as a centre of the house which has highest levels is for the parents and the brides or for important guests, while the rear part is for the daughters and kitchen. The way of life and the way they use their houses influence the layout, ornament and size. Culture has a huge effect on the interior and exterior of Limas house, often beautify buildings in relation to local traditions and way of life. Limas house in tropical climates is constructed by wooden materials. It allows not only significant cross- ventilation through openings of the windows and but also useful up lift swing doors and pagar tenggalung. The houses on stilts mostly built along the riverbanks and they facing the water. Traditional Limas house is perfect example of sustainability; it demonstrates good environmental adaptation and will not threaten its environmental. Indigenous Limas’ houses meet the cultural aspects and environmental comfort in local setting.
