ABSTRACT Mountains offer replicated units with large biotic and abiotic gradients in a reduced spatial scale. This transforms them into well-suited scenarios to evaluate biogeographic theories. Mountain biogeography is a hot topic of research and many theories have been proposed to describe the changes in biodiversity with elevation. Geometric constraints, which predict the highest diversity to occur in mid-elevations, have been a focal part of this discussion. Despite this, there is no general theory to explain these patterns, probably because of the interaction among different predictors with the local effects of historical factors. We characterize the diversity of small non-volant mammals across the elevational gradient on Mount (Mt.) Kinabalu (4,095 m) and Mt. Tambuyukon (2,579 m), two neighboring mountains in Borneo, Malaysia. It holds many widespread Asian birds, plus a diverse set of birds that are restricted to the Sunda region (southern Thailand, peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, and Borneo), and dozens of its own endemic birds and mammals. For family listing birders, the Bornean Bristlehead, which makes up its own family, and is endemic to the island, is the top target. For most other visitors, Orangutan, the only great ape found in Asia, is the creature that they most want to see. But those two species just hint at the wonders held by this mysterious island, which is rich in bulbuls, babblers, treeshrews, squirrels, kingfishers, hornbills, pittas, and much more. Although there has been rampant environmental destruction on Borneo, mainly due to the creation of oil palm plantations, there are still extensive forested areas left, and the Malaysian state of Sabah, at the northern end of the island, seems to be trying hard to preserve its biological heritage. Ecotourism is a big part of this conservation effort, and Sabah has developed an excellent tourist infrastructure, with comfortable lodges, efficient transport companies, many protected areas, and decent roads and airports. So with good infrastructure, and remarkable biological diversity, including many marquee species like Orangutan, several pittas and a whole Borneo: Bristleheads and Broadbills July 1-16, 2018 range of hornbills, Sabah stands out as one of the most attractive destinations on Earth for a travelling birder or naturalist.

This study aims to compare the income of smallholder oil palm plantations with RSPO certified and non RSPO certified in Banyuasin Regency, analyze the efficiency level of plantations with RSPO certified and without RSPO certified. The study conducted in Musi Banyuasin Regency of South Sumatra Province. The results showed that the revenue of smallholders in the plantation with RSPO certified more than smallholders non RSPO certified, the components that influence the difference income are the output of production, production costs and selling prices received by farmers. The efficiency level in terms of factors plantation land,capital and labor showed that the plantation with RSPO certified, the efficiency level is affected by issued of expanding land and capital, while for the non RSPO certified, the level efficiency tends to be influenced only by the expansion land. Email: [email protected] ABSTRACT The introduction of free schools needs to be dealt with seriously by the leader. Seriousness is shown by his ability to lead. Leadership is required so that the introduction of free schools can be guided and targets can be accomplished quickly and efficiently. The purpose of this study was to decide how free school leadership is in the Musi Banyuasin Regency (MUBA). This research uses a qualitative approach to the case study process. The data collection technique was conducted by interviewing, analyzing and recording the validity of the data used in the triangulation process. The results show that free school leadership in the MUBA district is focused on coordination, collaboration, productivity in the division of roles, the arrangement of the activities of the management team members in an integrated and sustainable manner between the district management team and the school. Rare mammals recorded in Borneo – Order: Erinaceomorpha Malaysia Short-tailed Gymnure, Hylomys suillus dorsalis (endemic subspecies): Mesilau Resort, Kinabalu National Park, 1900 m (Fig. 2). While on a wildlife-watching trip to Sabah, Borneo, May 21 to June 5, 2011, Jeffrey Harding and I saw several rare and endangered mammal species whose distributions are not well known. Following is a list of the rarest ones with notes on location, elevation, and conservation status. Elevations were taken with a Barigo altimeter. Conservation status notes are based on IUCN (2011). Taxonomy follows Wilson & Reeder (2005). Evidence included field notes and photographs for most species mentioned below. I offer these notes in case they may be of use in future conservation efforts or distribution studies.     CACAO CATALOGUE ABOUT Yayasan Bersama Lestarikan Nusantara (“Yayasan Belantara”) is an Indonesian grant-making institution formed in 2014 with the goal of delivering wide-ranging community and conservation results. It takes its name from the Indonesian word ‘Belantara’ which means wilderness or pristine forest. Belantara primary focus is to allocate grants to support restoration, protection, conservation of endangered species (specifically Sumatran Tiger, Sumatran Elephant, as well as Sumatran and Bornean Orangutan), Institutional development, and community development and empowerment initiatives in Conservation Area, Production Forest, Protection Forest, and Social Forestry on the ten specified grant distribution areas across five provinces on the islands of Sumatra and Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo). Working with local communities, governments, the private sector and NGOs, Belantara relies on a multi-stakeholder approach to better inform decision-making when addressing resource management problems. As the Essential Ecosystem Areas (KEE) stretch across the grant distribution areas, a coordinated response between all stakeholders for the effective management and preservation of critical ecosystems is required. As an independent foundation, Belantara aims to work with all parties that shares its goals, coordinating and collaborating with partner projects within each of its ten specified grant distribution areas. Belantara aims to ensure that existing initiatives are aligned, minimizing the risk of projects overlapping while maximizing information and data sharing. Co-founder Asia Pulp and Paper significantly contributed in getting the Foundation off the ground, providing substantial financing. Additional financial resources are being raised from the public and private sectors, while investment de-risking initiatives will follow to achieve a more holistic scope of financing modalities.
