This accretion to the papers of the Barksdale family of Jackson, Mississippi, consists primarily of correspondence between Emily Woodson Barksdale Humphrey and her sister, Therese Hawkins Barksdale of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This accretion to the papers of Charles Clark of Jackson, Mississippi, consists of case files, correspondence, memoranda, and publications documenting a portion of his career as chief justice of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. This journal from Courtland plantation, Adams County, Mississippi, records slaves' names, daily tasks, amounts of cotton picked, and daily weather at the plantation from January, 1854, through the middle of July, 1855. This journal from Courtland plantation, Adams County, Mississippi, records slaves' names, daily tasks, amounts of cotton picked, and daily weather at the plantation from February, 1857, through the beginning of June, 1859. These include a copy of The Veiled Doctor by Varina Anne Jefferson Davis; a novel and a book of poetry by Richard Henry Savage; and a phrenology manual by 0. S. The papers include original correspondence, a will, and tintype photographs of members of the Delay family. The correspondence consists primarily of the letters of William Delay of Oxford, Mississippi, and his wife Kate, some of which were written during his service as a captain in the Confederate army during the Civil War. This letter from W. King of Pontotoc, Mississippi, to his daughter, Mary Leonora K[Dg, in Red Sulphur Springs, Hardin County, Tennessee, contains information on the King family, friends, daily life, and farming activities at the family home in Pontotoc County, Mississippi. Presented by Michael Hennen, Jackson, Mississippi. MONROE (GUSTAVUS L., JR.) DIPLOMATIC PAPERS. 1907-1911. 0.50 c.f. These papers consist of correspondence, a special passport, and certificates of appointment concerning Gustavus L. Monroe, Jr., of Mississippi, who served as secretary of the United States legations at La Paz, Bolivia, and San Jose, Costa Rica, where he also served as charge d'affaires. This accretion contains correspondence, photographs, social papers, programs, and newsclippings documenting the career of Mississippi state senator and judge Jean Denman Muirhead. There is considerable material in the collection concerning Muirhead's aunt, the poet Annie Denman, at that time resident in Jackson, Mississippi. These papers include correspondence from Denman, poems by her, and a photocopy of her book, Voices In The Quiet Hour. Presented by Jean Denman Muirhead, Falls Church, Virginia. The yearbooks contain lists of officers, members, and copies of the club's constitution and by-laws, while the newsletters contain summaries of meetings, programs of club activities, and reports of club officers. The papers of Martha Swain of Starkville, Mississippi, are composed principally of correspondence to her from AlbertY. Woodward, Jr., of Arlington, Virginia, concerning Swain's historical research and biography of Woodward's mother, Ellen Sullivan Woodward, of Oxford, Mississippi. Included with the correspondence are social papers, and a photocopy of an obituary of AlbertY. Includes transcribed correspondence between Branton and his parents in Virginia, discussing setting up the plantation, family news, and land sales.
