Kindy 2 Red performance during the Hari Raya Assembly!!

Tunku Putra Kindy is special as it always values and celebrates children’s learning. Every class and every single child is given the opportunity to perform either during the Whole School Assemblies or different Festive Special Assemblies. The students develop their confidence and perform on the stage with pride. Recently, Kindy 2 Red children had the opportunity to perform a dance for the Hari Raya Special Assembly.

Through the preparation in creating related craft items and getting ready the costumes and various discussions, the children gained an understanding about the Hari Raya celebrations. Although the children come from diverse backgrounds, they learned to respect different cultures and customs. They began their dance practice a month before their performance. Throughout the practice, they displayed good Personal Values by respecting the opinions of their The boys took turns to create their peers and worked collaboratively as a team. When it comes to food, pizza is a universal food which almost everyone enjoys. Entering the topic about ‘Food, please!’, NP 3 students took an immediate interest in making pizza. They were all ears when instructions were given to them. They were taught the steps of making pizza. During the pizza making process, the students showed their cooperation and teamwork. While working in groups, they discussed and decided their own choices on the toppings for their pizza. When their pizza was ready, everyone was eager to see what their pizza looked and tasted like. They enjoyed the session to the fullest and they felt the satisfaction in making their own pizza.

Let’s find out how International Primary promoted Language Week...

In our weekly assembly I asked the children if they could name the top 10 most spoken languages around the world. This was a great way to start our Language Week and got everyone thinking about popular languages. The class teachers organised visitors to read and teach mini language lessons. Some class teachers organised home learning presentations. All classes were asked the Big Question ‘What happens if everyone in this world speaks only one language?’

“How would we learn other ways of speaking?”

“Tourism would be affected.” “It would be easier to communicate and travel but sad at the same time not to learn new ways of talking and people would start making new languages to break rules.”

Thank you to all the community members who gave their time to come in and learned with the children. Thank you to all the teachers who planned extra special activities to help the children learned more about the Big Question and being Internationally Minded.

“It’s kind of impossible to only speak one language because we have different cultures.”

TK4 Contributes to Stage Decoration

The TK4 Art students had the opportunity to contribute their ideas for the Hari Raya Special Assembly stage decoration. During Art class, they came up with the idea of putting a 3D model of a Malay traditional house. The house was made of polystyrene. The verandah of the house was designed in a 3D model and the house itself was in a 2D structure. Curtains were hung on the windows and the doors of the house. The house was lighted with coloured bulbs and oil lamps. Potted plants and ‘lemang’ were decorated attractively to get everyone into the mood of the festive Raya.

TK4 Chemistry Teamwork

Chemistry is a tough and challenging subject that tests us on our memorisation. By carrying out experiments, we are able to understand the topics thoroughly and helps us to memorise the transition of elements and even the reactions of different chemicals.

We instill the value of cooperation when we conduct our experiments in groups; and discuss the task given. We improve our learning abilities and learned chemistry effectively that way. Sometimes we conduct the same experiment more than once as it enables us to compare the results. Not only that but we can also explore the factors and conditions that could possibly affect the outcome of the experiment. Thanks to our impressive teamwork for making Chemistry subject a joy to learn.

University Applications

We (the A-Level students) are almost half-way through our course. There are many activities and events that we have participated in to show leadership and responsibility.

Grades are of course incredibly important when it comes to getting accepted into your desired university, but grades alone don't tell a person's full story. Universities often look for individuals who can handle complex situations and be proactive. All the activities and events that we have participated in have been designed to help inspire us or awaken a sense of purpose which is crucial in our first steps towards becoming fully fledged adults.

As it approaches university application submission period there are some things that Dr Sow Chorng Haur we must consider. We need to consider what giving a nanotechnology lecture career path we want to pursue, where we might want to be located in the future and what our family expectations and circumstances are.

Thankfully we have had Ms Angela to aid us in selecting and applying for the right course. Ms.Angela has been conducting individual appointments with each of us to help us decide what course we should consider applying for and where that university might be.

Continued From Page 10. Duke of Edinburgh programme

We are grateful to have the opportunity to participate in the world renowned Duke of Edinburgh Award (DoE). In this programme, as we have learned countless unique survival skills that we perhaps would not have learned elsewhere. “Do not play with fire!”, is a rule that doesn’t apply to us as DoE participants as we need to be able to start a campfire safely. We have had various lesson in starting a fire safely and learning first-aid skills such as bandaging fractured limbs. Whilst these first-aid skills are very useful to know in case , hopefully we will not have to put them into practice during our actual excursions! A-level students practicing safety holds We also had a presentation by a cartographer who taught us pathfinding skills as well as how to differentiate between magnetic North and true North. Our understanding was tested in a game where we hid coloured pencils for other teams to try and locate. Additionally, we learned how to set up hammocks using the school’s playground as our practice zone. Sleeping in beds during the excursion is an option (for the less faint-hearted) but we are looking to immerse ourselves fully in the experience.

The DoE Awards programme is more than just an excursion however. All participants are required to complete a set of weekly tasks: learning a skill (e.g. reviewing blogs), completing a physical activity (e.g. running) and participating in a community service project (e.g. teaching others).

St. Augustine’s program

A small group of us have spent some Saturdays volunteering for the St.Augustine’s program run by TPS to aid the English language learning of the Year 6 students at St. Augustine’s primary school. During these sessions, we ran various physical and literacy activities to help improve their English language skills and confidence. We found that many of the students were quite shy at the beginning. However, after participating in some ice-breaking activities that we organised, we found that they became more comfortable interacting with us and each other. We played games such as Pictionary and sports such as handball which helped the students learn verbs. By the end of The St. Augustine’s students getting each session, the students were completely out of ready for their activities breath, but smiling a hundred times more than they had been at the start of the day.

With the A-Level program approaching its mid-way point, we can’t wait to see what the second half has in store.
