ResiliArt

ResiliArt is a global movement initiated by UNESCO that aims to strengthen the resilience of artists and cultural professionals in the face of the enormous challenges posed by the current COVID-19 crisis. ResiliArt is a debate series with key industry professionals and artists that raises awareness of the far-reaching impact of the pandemic on the culture sector as well as the importance of culture and the arts for recovery, economic development and social cohesion.

Since its launch on 15 April 2020, over 80 ResiliArt debates have been held in more than 50 countries.

China is joining this global movement by inviting 5 renowned panelists from the fields of film, music, media, performing arts and museums to the first ‘offline’ debate in the world to discuss the resilience of culture and creativity beyond COVID-19.

The debate will be livestreamed in Chinese with subtitles and Chinese sign language on Phoenix Show platform and Phoenix TV accounts on TikTok, Weibo, Kuaishou and Jinri Toutiao.

The inaugural debate of China ResiliArt will be opened by Marielza OLIVEIRA, Director of UNESCO Beijing Cluster Office, and LIU Changle, Chairman and CEO of Phoenix TV.

1 Panelists

SHAN Jixiang, former Director of the Palace Museum

Shang Jixiang is a senior architect, city planner, politician and scholar, former Director of the National Administration of Cultural Heritage and Director of the Palace Museum from 2012-2019. Shan was a member of the 10th, 11th and 12th National Committees of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), president of the Cultural Relics Society of China, and vice chairman of the Architectural Society of China.

During his tenure at the Palace Museum he introduced a series of innovative changes, including opening up over 80 percent of the areas in the Forbidden City and its relics to visitors, stimulating a re-branding of the site through creative products and integrating state-of-the-art technology for conservation and accessibility. He is considered a creative reformer and has left a legacy in the field of museums in China.

HUNG Huang, media and fashion figure

Hung Huang is a writer, publisher and prominent media figure. She was one of the first bloggers in China and has more than 13 million followers on her Weibo account. From 1999 to 2015, Hung published a small niche magazine, iLook, which focused on local Chinese design and lifestyle. She also founded the first Chinese designer concept store Brand New China in 2010.

2 Hung is an advocate of revitalizing traditional Chinese villages through art. She directed and produced the video lab “Come Along with Xiayuan”, a 90-vlogs documentary focusing on life and people in Xiayuan village where she has lived with a community of artists from across the country. The interaction and collaboration between local villagers and resident-artists have spawned a new kind of local culture, essential for the sustainable development of the village.

Stanley TONG, film director and producer

Stanley Tong began his career in the film industry as a stunt man, and started directing in 1983. About six years later he founded his own film company, Golden Gate. He has been filming international commercial films for more than three decades and is the golden partner of , renowned for his action movies.

He wrote, directed, produced, and stunt-directed “Stone Age Warriors”, which was so successful that Tong was given the job as director of “Supercop”, for which he won the Golden Horse Award, a Chinese version of the Academy Award. His first American film was “”, another film starring Jackie Chan, a springboard for his career in Hollywood.

CHEN Sa, pianist

Chinese pianist Chen Sa has established herself as one of the most charismatic pianists of her generation. She earned critical acclaims at Leeds, Chopin and Van Cliburn in her early teens, then

3 began her professional performing career worldwide with her evocative playing. Sa was nominated for the esteemed Tokyo series “The 100 Greatest Pianists” and as the cover artist of the launching issue of Gramophone magazine Chinese edition.

She was also named by the French magazine L’Officiel as one of the “Top 10 Chinese Artists” and the Polish Government honored the Chopin Art Passport to Sa in 2010, for her unique interpretation and achievement in Chopin’s music. Sa has performed with many prestigious orchestras, such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and with great musicians like Gidon Kremer and Natalie Gutman.

TAI Lihua, dancer, leader of China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe

Tai Lihua is a dancer with hearing impairment who has been brought to the world stage thanks to her perseverance and outstanding performances. She is the only Chinese dancer to have performed both at Carnegie Hall in New York and La Scala in Milan, and a poster of The Spirit of the Peacock by her at Carnegie Hall is the only one from China.

Thousand-handed Goddess of Mercy, a dance performed by 21 dancers who are hearing impaired from the China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe at the 2005 CCTV Spring Festival gala show, increased Tai’s reputation throughout China. As Tai understands, the Thousand-handed Goddess of Mercy is kind-hearted and always willing to give a hand to people in difficulty. As the society shows concern and care, persons with disabilities are reaching out with the deepest gratitude.

4 Moderators

WANG Luxiang

Wang Luxiang was appointed as the Senior Director of Phoenix TV in in 2001. He has been the Chief Director of Phoenix TV’s “Criss-crossing China” TV show, the host of “Century Lecture Hall” and “Cultural Canvas” TV shows. In 2003, he was selected as “Chinese New Knowledgeable” by New Weekly magazine, the most popular magazine in China and “Chinese Cultural Figure” in 2017.

Lany C TIAN

Lany C Tian hosts the “Star Face" column of Phoenix TV, and covers science, art, music, architecture and other fields by interviewing celebrities. She hosted China’s first all-media real-time interactive live broadcast program “All-Media Opening Lecture” and discussed daily hot news topics including current affairs, finance, fashion, and entertainment. She joined Phoenix TV in 2012, and was exposed to various large-scale events, including Chinese New Year Classical Music Concert, the 8th Asia Film Awards, Miss Chinese Cosmos Pageant, etc.
