Medico-legal experience

I have been providing reports for both the Crown Court and Magistrates Court for seven years. I have particular experience in providing reports in matters of criminal law addressing areas such as fitness to plead, capacity to form intent and also providing recommendations regarding disposal. I have provided independent reports for the First Tier Tribunal.

CURRENT EMPLOYMENT January 2017 -present Cygnet Coventry Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist Dunsmore PICU My current post is based on a 16 bedded female psychiatric intensive care unit. This is a newly built and developing service with a focus on short-term management of people with EUPD who are in crisis.

PREVIOUS EMPLOYMENT St Andrew’s Healthcare Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist Robinson Medium Secure Ward/Ashby low secure ward July 2015 – January 2017 St Andrew’s healthcare is the largest not for profit, charitable provider of mental health services in the . It is the first non NHS teaching hospital in the UK. My role included acting as Responsible Clinician (RC) for seventeen patients on a male medium secure ward and a further eight male patients on a low secure ward. I was the ECT lead for the Charity, a role which required liaison with local NHS services, policy and procedure development and also, the creation of a business plan for an rTMS service within the Charity. I sat on the Mental Health Law Steering Group, the Psychosis Clinical Effectiveness Group (CEG) and the PICU Clinical Effectiveness Group. I also had a teaching role for medical students from University of Cambridge. Over the course of my employment at St Andrew’s I have also worked within psychiatric intensive care, locked rehabilitation and community settings.

Lead Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist Low Secure/Locked Men’s Service April 2013 –July 2015 From April 2013 – July 2015 I was the Lead Consultant for the Low secure/Locked Men’s Service. This involved holding some budgetary responsibility across ten wards as well as line managing six Consultant Psychiatrists and six Specialty Doctors. I worked with the Clinical Director and Service Director to further the development of the service, for example, in the form of guiding individual teams towards accreditation for their wards. I was a member of the Senior Management Team for the Men’s Service and variously sat on or chaired a number of groups including Patient Safety Group, Quality and Compliance, Senior Management Team meeting as well as the Medicine’s Management Group. The role also involved providing input to the Charity’s Operational Medical Management team which fed into the executive committee.

TEACHING

I have taught medical students and training grade doctors throughout the majority of my posts. St Andrew’s has recently become a teaching hospital Each post has also given me the opportunity to present cases and lead discussion with peers and local staff groups.

I take the opportunity to present sessions at the local CPD events and I have co-organised a half day conference on veterans’ mental healthcare.
