I am requesting that the Parks & Recreation Department be authorized to prepare specifications and to direct the Comptroller to go out for bids per the City's established bid procedures. Paletko Mayor Mayor's Office APFROVED rOH AGENDA OF January 4, 2017 0 (-10-l/ Honorable City Council City of Dearborn Heights Dear Council Members: For the last eighteen months, I have been working with Enterprise Fleet Management on a proposal which should result in significant savings to the City as well as provide us with a reliable, current model fleet. To see if this proposal will work, I am proposing a test using the Ordinance Department and the Director's car in the Recreation Department. Traditionally, cities purchase vehicles and keep them in the fleet until they need $5,000 or more in repairs and then sell them for $200. This results in huge maintenance costs and vehicles which are very fuel inefficient and unreliable. In addition, vehicles are not being matched with their intended use. The Enterprise Fleet Management system purchases vehicles using governmental discount pricing from the manufacturer and leases the vehicle to the government entity. In essence, the City only pays for the value of the vehicle it uses. Since the vehicles get changed out often, the fleet is always current and reliable. This will result in us eliminating the vehicle repair and maintenance portion of the budget. Also, it will result in a significant gas savings since the fleet would use small engine Escapes versus old inefficient Crown Victoria Police Interceptors with V -8 motors. I am proposing we enter into an Equity Lease Agreement with Enterprise Fleet Management for nine (9) vehicles and sell vehicles currently in the City's fleet and use the proceeds to pay for the first few months of the lease. This would result in no budget adjustment for fiscal year 2016-17. If the City Council would like to meet with Mr. Jason Weiss to discuss the proposal, he would be available on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 to meet at a Committee of the Whole Meeting.     “The Schuchardt’s Last Show” The Schuchardt Collection Auction Who would have thought that one ingenious idea would change the course of history and man. That simple combustion engine started the industrial revolution and changed our social lives forever. From that moment on we became a nation on the move. The automobile let us travel to new and wonderful places and made the world a smaller place. Horses were replaced by horsepower and started many changes to come. There were many ideas for the new automobile, but one man, Henry Ford, started the mass produced Vehicles and allowed the World to become mobile. He developed many of the early Letter Series and then came the Model T Ford. Les Schuchard was one of the men that fell under the spell of the new transportation. Every since he was a kid, he marveled at this fabulous new machine. Les Schuchard knew the area and all the farmers while working for the Black Hills Power Company. One of his first vehicles that he bought was a 1923 Ford Model T. He bought it from a farmer and this started his collecting. Les Also bought some Gold Claims in the Black Hills and with a lot of hard work, soon the claims started to pay off some. This allowed him to pursue his dream of collecting those fabulous vehicles he read about and grew up with. He married the love of his wife Delores and they started their family. They settled in Spearfish, South Dakota and a home near Spearfish Creek. Delores soon also enjoyed the vehicles and they spent many trips chasing for vehicles all over the U.S.

    Updated Dec. 2019 This is an index of articles which have appeared in The Vintage Ford. It covers the 54 volumes of the magazine beginning in March 1966 through the November-December 2019 issue. National news, chapter news, tours, Life in the Slow Lane, and similar articles are not included in order to conserve space. The numbers which appear after each heading indicate the Volume, Issue, and Page number(s). For instance, 18-5-11 would mean Volume 18, Issue Number 5, Page 11; 20-1-4 would mean Volume 20, Issue Number 1, Page 4. The Volume indicates a specific year; the Issue number is the Issue within that year. Volume 1 is 1966, Volume 36 is 2001. There have been six issues every year except for 1966, in which there were only five. In 2001, the Model T Ford Club of America produced a seven-CD set of all the magazines produced from 1966 through 2000. The CD set includes every page of every issue and includes an index like the one shown here. Merely clicking on the article of interest will take you directly to the article or it will tell you which CD to insert to find it. As each issue has been scanned using optical character recognition (OCR) software, it is possible to do a word search in each issue. It is available for purchase for $119.99; contact the MTFCA Business Office to order the CD set. Plans are underway to have years 2001 through 2017 available soon. Because the various models of the Model T Ford have been covered in great detail over the years, seemingly duplicate articles of any given year are indicated in the Index.

    Early Automobiles A History in Advertising Line Art, 1890-1930 Jim Harter San Antonio, Texas 2015 The Electrobat (1895), America’s first successful electric automobile. Largely forgotten, the Electrobat was America’s first successful electric automobile. A collaboration be- tween mechanical engineer Henry G. Morris and chemist Pedro G. Salom, it was built in Philadelphia. Previously, both men had been involved with battery-powered streetcars. Building a prototype vehicle, they received a patent on August 31, 1894. Commercial production began in 1895. Their enterprise became the Morris & Salom Electric Carriage & Wagon Co. in 1896. An Electrobat was entered in America’s first of- ficial horseless carriage race, Chicago’s Times-Herald competition of Nov. 28, 1895. Unfortunately, icy road conditions prevented it from finishing the race, which was won by a gas-powered Duryea. The Electrobat used in that event was a two-passenger runabout. It had 40-inch diameter wheels in front, and 28-inch in the rear. Powered by two 1.5-hp Lundell motors, its driving gears were attached to the front axle. In good conditions on a smooth road it could reach speeds of 20 mph. On September 7, 1896 an Electrobat did much better, placing second, ahead of five Duryea vehicles, in the Narragansett Park Race held during Rhode Island’s State Fair. Electrobat manufacture ceased in 1897, as the company shifted production to electric-powered hansom cabs.
