The benefits of a residential hall are many. International and local students will have a convenient place to live and more opportunities to learn about other cultures and perspectives. With an established residence hall, the international student population will continue to expand and contribute tuition to support other college programs and services.

The residential complex is located on the northwest corner of 11th Street and Warren Avenue near the Bremerton campus. It was purchased by the Bremer Trust, an independent nonprofit organization that has given more than $5 million to Olympic College since its inception in 1987. Gifts to the College from the Trust have funded programs, services, student scholarships and supported advancement of employee skills and expertise.

Initially, the hall will accommodate 36 international and local students. In a few years, the college expects to have more than 80 students staying in the residential hall. Income from student rent will pay for one residential housing staff person, additional security, and property maintenance.

This is an exciting move for Olympic College, but one that is not unique among community colleges in our state. Edmonds Community College, Shoreline Community College, Skagit Valley College, Green River Community College, and Highline Community College are just some of the community colleges that offer residential living to local and international students. The residential hall is a natural outcome of our mission to enrich our diverse communities through quality education and support as students achieve their educational goals.

Residence Hall

The international student population has been growing year-to-year and many local students need stable and affordable housing so they can continue their studies. In response to the growing need for housing, the College opened its own residential hall in fall 2013. Page 12

Master Plan

Summer of 2015—The College In order to reach its full potential, the College plans to break ground on must provide its programs with adequate facilities that can enhance learning and support a new 75,000 square foot growth. Olympic College’s drama, music and arts College Instruction Center facilities are getting a new home to better serve these growing programs. Its Health Occupations (CIC) which will serve a wide programs are currently scattered in multiple range of programs, including locations and would better serve both their students and the College if they were located on a Art, Music, Drama, and Health single campus. The replacement of the Art, Music Occupations. and Theater buildings with a new College Instruction Center that can accommodate multiple programs is Olympic College’s highest capital priority. The 75,000 square foot College Instruction Center will meet the broad needs of the College for state-of-the-art, multipurpose instructional space. 2013-2014 ANNUAL REPORT
