Answar 1: (U) Mr. Scott Large, NRO Director, in consultation with the DNI, made the decision to declassify the locations of our mission ground stations as a strategic move in keeping with our need to provide on-demand surveillance for real-time engagement by policy and military decision makers. With much at stake, the Act provides for unprecedented levels of transparency and accountability so that the public will be able to know how, when, and where tax dollars are being spent. Department of Defense (DoD) Implementation The Recovery Act includes approximately $7.4 billion in Defense-related appropriations, which accounts for less than 1 percent of the total $787 billion stimulus package signed on February 17, 2009, by President Obama. The Department intends to spend this funding with unprecedented full transparency and accountability. A website, www.Recovery.gov, is the main vehicle to provide every citizen with the ability to monitor the progress of the recovery. The DoD also has a website: http://www.defenselink.mil/recovery, which links to Recovery.gov. As stated on www.Recovery.gov, the purpose of the Recovery Act is to create and save jobs, jumpstart our economy, address unfunded facility requirements, and build the foundation for long-term economic growth. In order to fulfill these objectives, the DoD intends to

Regional Oral History Office University of California The Bancroft Library Berkeley, California William Newsom POLITICS, LAW, AND HUMAN RIGHTS Interviews conducted by Martin Meeker in 2008-2009 Copyright © 2009 by The Regents of the University of California Since 1954 the Regional Oral History Office has been interviewing leading participants in or well-placed witnesses to major events in the development of Northern California, the West, and the nation. Oral History is a method of collecting historical information through tape-recorded interviews between a narrator with firsthand knowledge of historically significant events and a well-informed interviewer, with the goal of preserving substantive additions to the historical record. The tape recording is transcribed, lightly edited for continuity and clarity, and reviewed by the interviewee. The corrected manuscript is bound with photographs and illustrative materials and placed in The Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley, and in other research collections for scholarly use. Because it is primary material, oral history is not intended to present the final, verified, or complete narrative of events. It is a spoken account, offered by the interviewee in response to questioning, and as such it is reflective, partisan, deeply involved, and irreplaceable. ********************************* All uses of this manuscript are covered by a legal agreement between The Regents of the University of California and William Newsom, dated August 7, 2009, and Barbara Newsom, dated September 22, 2009 (by her executor), and Brennan Newsom, dated November 12, 2009. The manuscript is thereby made available for research purposes. All literary rights in the manuscript, including the right to publish, are reserved to The Bancroft Library of the University of California, Berkeley.

  • Talk to the Paw
Talk to the Paw Support Dogs, Inc. Volunteer Newsletter Spring 2015 Support Dogs, Inc Volunteer Newsletter TOUCH Program - Reformatted In 2013, the VAC began looking at the TOUCH program. We know the program is wonderful but we wanted to see if there were any changes or improvements that would make it even better. After careful consideration, in 2014, we implemented a segmented class format, along with an instructor intern program. The segmented class format allows volunteers to get out in the community sooner and also allows the handler to participate in only the segments desired. TOUCH still begins with a temperament evaluation, after successful completion of an adult obedience class. Next, instead of the 12-week class, there are segmented classes. First, the team starts with a four-week TOUCH Prep Class. After successful completion of this class, the team can move to the Adult class and/or the Paws for Reading class. The Paws class requires a recommendation from the instructor and is a two hour class. The Adult class is a five-week class. After successful completion of the Adult segment, the team can begin visiting in adult facilities. If desired and if instructor recommended, the team may enroll in the Children’s class. Upon successful completion of the four-week Children’s class, the team can visit in non-acute child facilities. This does not include Children’s Hospital, Shriner’s Hospital or Ranken Jordan. In order to visit these facilities, the Acute class is required. The Acute segment is a two- week class. Before a handler can take the Acute class, the team must have made 12 visits in six months or twelve months at a non-acute child facility.

Despite sustained unemployment, employers are finding it difficult to hire Americans with necessary skills, and many expect this problem to intensify. For example, 63 percent of life science and aerospace firms report shortages of qualified workers. In the defense and aerospace industries, many executives fear this problem will accelerate in the coming decade as 60 percent of the existing workforce reaches retirement age.
