OPENING ACT On April 7, 1979, a number of militants and intellectuals, Sunday 29 January members of Potere Operaio (Workers Power) and Autonomia 11 Location: Tensta Konsthall Operaia, including Antonio Negri and Paolo Virno, were arrested across Italy on charges of terrorism. They were accused of leading the armed 12.00—18.00 organization Brigate Rosse (the Red Brigades) and creating the intellectual backing for left-wing radicalism. The original trial took place between 1982 and 1984 before the Criminal Court of Rome, the high-security courthouse The Trial that hosted important trials of Italy’s Anni di piombo (Years of Lead)—a period of social turmoil and extremisms in Italy (its name comes loosely from — A Performance by the number of bullets being used back then). Rossella Biscotti edited a six-hour material from the original recordings by Rossella Biscotti Based on Radio Radicale, a radio station run by Italy’s Radical Party. The original audio recordings are translated and interpreted live by Stockholm cultural producers with CuratorLab participants, as well as invited artists, activists, the Original Courtroom citizens and Tensta inhabitants. Recordings from the 1982— The act of translation is also an act of mediation and embodiment of the ideas developed by Autonomia Operaia. The piece offers the performative act of transversing and translating the trial with one’s own body, experiencing 1984 Trial of Members of and re-expressing concepts such as labor, wage negotiation, precarity, immaterial working conditions, and other core notions that we, the cultural Autonomia Operaia workers of today, could rethink in order to potentially gather around in solidarity and organization. INTRODUCTION TO RESEARCH (Part 1) Maria Lantz is a visual artist, curator, Magnus MÖrck is Head teacher, writer and since 2012 Vice Chancellor of Division of Education and Monday 30 January at Konstfack. With the help of existing translation strategies, it aims to map out the strategies used in Swedish webpages in English with a focus on names and words/expressions for which there are no direct equivalents in English. The study shows that the most common strategies regarding the translation of names were translating word for word and using the nearest equivalent. Regarding language-specific expressions, the most common strategies were using cultural equivalents and reduction. Not surprisingly, additions in the text were most often matters of importance to an international audience, and the most common omissions were matters that only had a local interest.
