FRANSEN Naturalis Biodiversity Center, P.O. Box 9517, 2300 RA Leiden, The Netherlands. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract A new species of pontoniine shrimp belonging to the ‘Periclimenes obscurus species group’ is described from the Berau Islands, North East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Specimens were obtained from aglaopheniid hydrozoans of the genus Macro- rhynchia. The new species is here described and figured. Its affinities with related species are discussed and a DNA-bar- code is provided. Key words: Crustacea, Decapoda, Palaemonidae, Pontoniinae, Periclimenes, new species, Hydrozoa, East Kalimantan, DNA-barcode, symbiont Introduction Within the large pontoniine genus Periclimenes Costa comprising over 150 species (De Grave & Fransen 2011), several species groups have been recognized. For some of these groups new genera were erected, e.g. Ancylomenes Okuno & Bruce, 2010 for the ‘Periclimenes aesopius species group’. For several of these species groups however, no solid morphological synapomorphies have been found to classify them in their own genus. Examples are the ‘Periclimenes iridescens species group’ known from the Atlantic and first distinguished by Heard & Spotte (1991), the ‘Periclimenes diversipes species group’ designated by Bruce (1989), the ‘Periclimenes granulimanus species group’ designated by Ďuriš (2010), and the ‘Periclimenes obscurus species group’ which was designated by Bruce (1987).

All the species are reported for the first time from Pakistan. These species are Hydractinia epidocleensis, Pennaria disticha, Eudendrium capillare, Orthopyxis cf. crenata, Clytia noliformis, C. hummelincki, Dynamena crisioides, D. quadridentata, Sertularia distans, Pycnotheca mirabilis and Macrorhynchia philippina. Key words: Hydroids, Coelenterata, Pakistan, Hydractinia, Pennaria, Eudendrium, Orthopyxis, Clytia, Dynamena, Sertularia, Pycnotheca, Macrorhynchia. INTRODUCTION used in the paper are derived from Millard (1975), Gibbons and Ryland (1989), Ryland and Gibbons (1991). In comparison to other invertebrates, TAXONOMIC ENUMERATION hydroids are one of the least known groups of marine animals from the coast of Pakistan Haque Family BOUGAINVILLIIDAE (1977) reported a few Cnidaria from the Pakistani Genus HYDRACTINIA Van Beneden, 1841 coast including two hydroids i.e. Plumularia flabellum Allman, 1883 (= P. insignis Allman, 1. Hydractinia epidocleensis Leloup, 1931 1883) and Campanularia juncea Allman, 1874 (= (Fig. 1) Thyroscyphus junceus (Allman, 1876) from Keamari and Bhit Island, Karachi, respectively. Ahmed and Hameed (1999), Ahmed et al. (1978) and Haq et al. (1978) have mentioned the presence of hydroids in various habitats along the coast of Pakistan. Javed and Mustaquim (1995) reported Sertularia turbinata (Lamouroux, 1816) from Manora Channel, Karachi. The present paper describes eleven species of Cnidaria collected from the Pakistani coast all of which are new records for Pakistan.

During the study period of February 2017,the Macrorhynchia philippina species associated on the dead /degraded reef flats and absence in the healthy reef. The increased occurrence of M. Philippina colonies were observed based on the substratum availability of dead coral reef. The study has reviled, the M.Phiippina preferably grow on the dead reef part and the increased occurrence act as the indicator species for the reef health assessment. KEY WORDS: Hydrozoa, Macrorhynciha philippina, Coral associate, Reef health. INTRODUCTION Hydrozoa, the most inconspicuous species, which is one of the most voracious feedersinbenthic marine ecosystem. Also the most reported species in terms of complex lifecycle stages. Among the reported hydozoa, Aglaopheniidae, is the most specious family comprising ≈250 valid species having the wide range of geographic distributional record in tropical and temperature seas (Bouillon et al., 2006). The epibiont organisms will grow on the substrate of dead coral, gorgonian and submerged ropes (Di Camillo et al. 2009).A few works, in related to their occurrence on coral reefs andtheir health were reported recently.

Morphology can be misleading in the representation of phylogenetic relationships, especially in simple organisms like cnidarians and particularly in hydrozoans. These suspension feeders are widely distributed in many marine ecosystems, and the family Aglaopheniidae Marktanner-Turneretscher, 1890 is among the most diverse and visible, especially on tropi- cal coral reefs.

Until now, only 19 species of heterobranch sea slugs have been formally reported from this area; this number constitutes a fraction of total diversity in the Caribbean region. Results: Based on newly conducted fieldwork, we increase the number of recorded heterobranch sea slug species in Bocas del Toro to 82. Descriptive information for each species is provided, including taxonomic and/or ecological notes for most taxa. The collecting effort is also described and compared with that of other field expeditions in the Caribbean and the tropical Eastern Pacific. Conclusions: This increase in known diversity strongly suggests that the distribution of species within the Caribbean is still poorly known and species ranges may need to be modified as more surveys are conducted.
