The Village is bordered generally by the Village of Long Grove on the east and southeast, the Village of Kildeer on the south, the Village of Lake Zurich on the southwest and the Village of North Barrington on the west. North of the Village is unincorporated Lake County. The Village had a Special Census 2007 population of 7,500, which is an increase from the Village’s Census 2000 population of 6,002. The Village has an area of approximately 22.5 square miles and is predominantly a residential community, with over 2,700 homes set generally on one-acre parcels. Village Government And Services The Village is a non-home rule unit of government and is governed by a President and a six member Board of Trustees elected at large for four-year terms. The Village Administrator handles day-to-day operations and is appointed by the President and the Board of Trustees. The Village provides public safety, streets and bridges, parks and recreation, public improvement, planning and zoning, building review and general administrative services. Recreation The Village maintains nine parks with over 80 acres of parkland. The parkland and facilities provide residents with recreational opportunities including: fields and facilities for sports, fishing, nature trails, ice skating, sledding and playgrounds. There are also a number of public golf courses nearby, including the championship Kemper Lakes Course. The Foglia YMCA provides year-round recreation programs. Schools Elementary students attend either Fremont School District #79 with 1,266 enrolled, Lake Zurich Unit School District #95 with a total of 5,769 enrolled or the Kildeer/Countryside School District #96 with 3,464 enrolled. High school students attend classes at Adlai E. Stevenson High School District #125, Lake Zurich High School in District #95 or Mundelein High School District #120. There are two private elementary schools and one parochial school in nearby Lake Zurich. Housing The village features attractive homes. The 2000 median house value was $395,300 and the median rent cost was $2000+. (U.S. Census Bureau, 2000) Government Services Fire protection is provided by the Lake Zurich Fire Department, the Long Grove Fire Protection District, the Countryside Fire Protection District and the Wauconda Fire Protection District.     June 8, 2020 It is with a heavy heart that representatives from the North Suburban Conference (NSC) member schools, which include Lake Forest High School, Lake Zurich High School, Libertyville High School, Mundelein High School, Adlai E. Stevenson High School, Warren Township High School, Waukegan High School, and Zion-Benton Township High School, reach out to you today. We acknowledge that the events that have transpired over the last few months have been an emotional time for our student-athletes, parents, and coaches. The loss of sports activities, time with teammates and coaches, coupled with the lack of a regular routine have been challenges for everyone involved. The Illinois High School Association (IHSA), released an updated statement on Friday, June 5th stating specifics for activities that can be held during Restore Illinois Phase 3. We anticipate receiving more guidance from the IHSA in the days ahead, which will guide our decisions regarding a return to sport- specific activities in the future. The NSC is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our student- athletes. In response to recent events of social injustice, we want to emphasize that the NSC promotes diversity and inclusivity and we will continue to use our platform to spread this message and support all of our student-athletes. Racism, violence, and injustice have no place in our community and will not be tolerated. The North Suburban Conference will continue its work to dismantle the biases that exist and use the power of education and co-curricular opportunities to positively shape the future. In the near future, we will be sharing an opportunity for student-athletes from our member schools to participate in a virtual NSC meeting to share their feelings and insights into how the NSC can become an agent for change.

This handbook should serve as a source of information and guidelines for the operation of our programs.     COURSE SELECTION Dear Parents/Guardians: We believe that educational planning and the selection of classes is one of the most important parts of your student’s high school experience, and we hope you will take an active part in the process. The Course Guide contains information on graduation requirements, Common Core State Standards, NCAA Clearinghouse requirements, and every course offered at Mundelein High School. It lists the following for each course: prerequisites, grade level criteria, number of terms, number of credits, and the course description. In addition, Mundelein High School frames course selection in the context of Programs of Study. Please take time to review and discuss the Programs of Study with your son/daughter, so that our students choose courses that align with their post-secondary plans. Each student will receive a Course Selection Worksheet; this worksheet lists every course offered next year for each grade level, along with the number of terms the course meets. Next to the department heading is a corresponding page number in the Course Guide. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are required to fill 7 periods for the year. Beginning in December, counselors will schedule individual appointments with each student. During the appointments, counselors will review graduation requirements, record course selections, and discuss post- high school plans. There is no limit to the number of applications a student can fill out, but we strongly encourage students to only apply to schools that they are genuinely interested in.
