  • Blood Types in Japan 1
Yap. or. Human Genet. 23, 197-209, 1978 THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE RH(D) BLOOD TYPES IN JAPAN 1 Yoshiko FUJITA, Katumi TANAKA,and Masako TANIMURA Department of Human Genetics, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Tokyo Summary Data on the Rh(D) types of 2,745,618 individuals were collected from prefectural health departments, health centers, and Red Cross blood centers in 35 of 47 prefectures in the whole country. Phenotypic and gene frequencies for each subpopulations were calculated and tabulated. The frequency of Rh(D) negatives in the whole sample is 0.5428~ and the frequency of the Rh(D) negative gene is estimated to be 7.37__+0.03~. An insignificant cline of the frequencies is suggested, i.e. the Rh(D) negative gene is increased from the northeast to the southwest of Japan. INTRODUCTION Frequencies of Rh blood types in different localities in Japan were summarized by Akaishi and Kudo (1975) who compiled available data on 10 prefectures from literature and through their own surveys. A majority of the studied prefectures cluster in the northmost part of the country and, therefore, distribution of the Rh system in the whole of Japan was still uncertain. Recently, examination of the Rh(D) type is extensively carrying out at health centers and blood centers in the whole country. The present authors collected such data and report here the results of the analyses. MATERIALS AND METHODS The data on the numbers of Rh(D) positives and negatives were obtained from health centers, prefectural health departments and Red Cross blood centers by mail.

  • Current Status of the Background of Patients with Coronary Artery Disease in Japan the Japanese Coronary Artery Disease Study (The JCAD Study)
Circ J 2006; 70: 1256–1262 Current Status of the Background of Patients With Coronary Artery Disease in Japan The Japanese Coronary Artery Disease Study (The JCAD Study) The Japanese Coronary Artery Disease (JCAD) Study Investigators* Background Although the morbidity and mortality of coronary artery disease (CAD) vary widely with race and lifestyle, Japanese CAD patients have been clinically managed according to the guidelines of Western coun- tries. To draft guidelines specifically for Japanese CAD patients, a database that describes how Japanese CAD patients are currently managed and the outcomes of those managements practices is required. Methods and Results Patients diagnosed as having 75% or higher stenosis according to the American Heart Association classification in at least 1 branch of the coronary arteries by cardiac catheterization were enrolled in the study. Of 15,628 patients screened from April 2000 to March 2001, 13,812 of them met the inclusion criteria and were followed up for a mean period of 2.7 years. The incident rate of events was 62.8 per 1,000 patients-year including all-cause mortality of 17.5 and total cardiac events of 47.4 per 1,000 patients-year which is much higher than previous reports in Japan. The incident rate of acute myocardial infarction in this study cohort was 7.5 events per 1,000 patients-year. Conclusion The database provides a large body of information on Japanese CAD patients who have significant coronary atherosclerosis diagnosed by coronary angiography, which will be useful for planning future random- ized controlled trials. (Circ J 2006; 70: 1256–1262) Key Words: Coronary angiography; Coronary artery disease; Cohort study; Internet registration he Japanese population dynamic statistics show that style, pharmacokinetics etc of Japanese are different from there were 159,545 deaths from heart disease in Westerners lead to us conducting this study to draft guide- T 2003, consisting 15.7% of all-cause deaths.1 Sever- lines applicable for Japanese.

DIS 83 (July 2000) Research Notes 93 w+ marked P elements which indicate that the PGawBinsertion tested has not replaced the lioP423.24 element. If no (w- ) individual was observed, the PGawB strain was' considered as a candidate.', for replacement of the lioP423.24.. 25 strains showed,. linkage with lio1 and i were testedby PCR with a GAL4 specific primer and two primers flanng the insertion site of lioP423.24. Combination of the GAL4 specific primer with each of the flanng primer allows to assay for replacement of lioP423.24 by PGawB in one orientation or the other. In6 cases, no amplification was obtained indicating that the P replacement did not succeed. In 19 cases, PCR experiments yielded amplification products indicating that GAL4 sequences were present. This was confirmed by expression pattern (see Table 1). Replacements by PGawB were obtained either in the same 5' to 3' orientation as lioP423.24 (16 cases) orin the other (3 cases).
