With a contingent of 39 members, all brimming with excitement and anticipation, team SIBM left for Jamshedpur on 21st July. The 30 hour train journey turned out to be a great bonding time between the MBA I and MBA II players. Seniors shared their past year experiences and boosted the morale of the juniors for the upcoming event. We reached XLRI on the 23rd and began practicing for the events lined up for the next day. This year the events were scheduled as per the ‘round robin’ tournament and not ‘knockouts’ as were held in the previous years. This meant double the hard work. The following colleges took part in the events apart from the host college, XLRI. SIBM Pune IIM Calcutta IIM Raipur XIMB Our college competed in the following events- FOOTBALL The first match of our team was held on the 23rd against XIMB. A heated opening match ensued following the kick-off. Our team’s lack of control of the game during the first half resulted in conceding 2 goals before the half time. Our comeback with Suraj Nair’s stunning bicycle kick and Adarsh Srinivasan’s impressive curling free kick goal from 23 yards helped us level the score.

Mediated Empowerments: An Ethnography of Four, All-Girls’ “Public Schools” in North India Meghan M. Chidsey Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy under the Executive Committee of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY 2017 © 2016 Meghan M. Chidsey All rights reserved ABSTRACT Mediated Empowerments: An Ethnography of Four, All-Girls’ “Public Schools” in North India Meghan M. Chidsey This ethnography takes place at four of northern India’s most renowned, all-girls’ private boarding schools, established in reference to the British Public Schooling model mainly during the tail ends of colonialism by Indian queens and British memsahibs on the sub-continent. It is a story told from the points of view of founders, administrators, and teachers, but primarily from that of students, based on fieldwork conducted from July 2013 through June 2014. Schools heralded as historic venues of purported upper-caste girls’ emancipation, this study interrogates the legacies of this colonial-nationalist moment by examining how these institutions and their female students engage in newer processes and discourses of class formation and gendered empowerment through schooling. For one, it considers the dichotomous (re)constructions of gendered and classed personhoods enacted through exclusionary modernities, particularly in terms of who gains access to these schools, both physically and through symbolic forms of belonging. It then examines the reclamation of these constructs within (inter)national

  • RULES of THROWBALL
RULES of THROWBALL Introduction According to SOI Rules, Article I, Section P, the Czech Special Olympic Games Movement submits herewith a proposal to acknowledge Throwball as a national popular sport. The said game has developed in several regions of the Czech Republic since 1968. Throwball tournaments became regular parts of sporting competitions of mentally handicapped youth. Throwball originated from the need to create a competitive ball game that would employ basic skills in ball throwing and catching, and would enable their development in various game situations. The game is a suitable means of training for other more demanding games of mentally handicapped people like basketball, volleyball or handball. Throwball is suitable for players on lower capability levels. Handling the ball on the home side of the playing field provides a good chance to those slowly moving and those with retarded reactivity and decision abilities. While playing, space orientation, mobility and motorics are trained. Also thinking is developed, and tactics are trained when playing. Throwball is a suitable unifying game in which some of the team members, in the initial training stages, help in organizing the game and support the handicapped players in acquiring correct skills.
