Take a 'Peak' Behind the Scenes of TV Production At When the cameras roll.. Coronation Street ARLEY has witnessed the magic of television on many occasions. This behind-the-scenes look at the filming will hopefully offer you a snapshot of what went on before, during and after the cameras rolled. Peaky Blinders Arley was taken over by Birmingham gangsters in November 2015 after the BBC decided the hall would be the perfect home for Tommy Shelby in Series 3 of Peaky Blinders. Actors Cillian Murphy, Helen McCro- ry, Paul Anderson and Joe Cole spent a month filming here. Oscar-nominated Hollywood star Tom Hardy also had a day on set. • Depictions of Fascism in Contemporary TV Drama
Prace Kulturoznawcze 24, nr 4 | Wrocław 2020 https://doi.org/10.19195/0860-6668.24.4.4 Paweł Kaczmarski ORCID: 0000-0002-9488-0816 University of Wroclaw On the back burner: Depictions of fascism in contemporary TV drama Abstract: The article seeks to describe and examine one of the possible (and arguably increasingly popular) approaches to the subject of fascism in contemporary TV drama: a narrative strategy that is defined by its willingness to go beyond the depiction of fascism as the absolute political Other, but nonetheless aims to produce a compelling and thorough critique of fascism. This is largely achieved by turning the subject of fascism into an ostensibly non-central element of the plot. By examining a number of contemporary TV series (The Crown, The Man in the High Castle, Peaky Blinders, Pennyworth and The Knick), and drawing certain analogies to Jonathan Littell’s The Kindly Ones, I aim to showcase the narrative effectiveness of a thus defined “back-burner” strategy — while link- ing this effectiveness to the formal possibilities opened up by contemporaryTV drama. Keywords: fascism, alternative history, TV series, TV drama, The Man in the High Castle, Peaky Blinders, The Kindly Ones The article seeks to explain how a certain narrative strategy of approaching fascism in contemporary TV drama — one that goes beyond the idea of fascism as the absolute political Other, and avoids placing it at the very centre of the plot — may produce a type of anti-fascist critique that is at once narratively compelling and capable of avoiding some of the affective pitfalls associated with the subject.

  • Drama Playbook - Series 2 Success Stories from Aframe Customers
Drama Playbook - Series 2 Success Stories from Aframe Customers Drama Production Playbook - Series 2 Success Stories from Aframe Customers x Introduction To This Playbook < So what exactly is a playbook? In sporting terms, a playbook is the set of plans the coach uses to ensure the team succeeds. For Aframe, these ‘plays’ are really just a metaphorical device to bring together a series of different workflows that might be employed by a particular television project, in this case Drama production. While the scripted nature of drama means shoot ratios are comparatively lower than for unscripted, there is still a prerequisite to review the day’s rushes as quickly as possible. Most TV dramas tend to be a co-production so input is amassed from a host of collaborators, often found in disparate locations. It’s common practice that a lot of preparatory work is performed before filming starts – such as camera tests, casting, location recces and test shoots. That material then needs to be reviewed and shared around. The secrecy around plotlines (especially for continuing dramas and soaps) means footage has to be distributed with absolute security. This playbook reveals four key workflows that enable productions to circumvent these challenges efficiently and securely: • Getting access to the day’s rushes in its native camera format quickly and efficiently. • Simplifying the review and approval process. • Efficient collaboration between globally dispersed teams. • Cloud powered post production. The three productions featured in this playbook represent some of the UK’s finest recent drama output; the BAFTA Award winning gangster series ‘Peaky Blinders’ produced by Tiger Aspect and Drama Republic’s political thriller ‘The Honourable Woman’ both occupied primetime slots for the BBC, whilst Darlow Smithson Productions brilliantly serialized the Industrial Revolution in Channel Four’s ‘The Mill’ with post-production managed by Timeline TV in MediaCityUK.
