The new writer has taken it to the top of the politically correct spectrum. I'm all for gay rights but this is a touch too much - where a good amount of the main characters and storylines are gay. I just watched this weeks episodes and saw two characters arrested and charged without any due process. i feel the way they portray the over- reach of the justice system would be laughable if it wasnt so dangerous to perpetuate. The amount of times someone has been arrested without any investigation, questioning, or representation in the last year couldn't be counted on both hands. Unfortunately this show is in a rut. The last group of great characters were introduced over ten years ago; Carla, Michele, Becky, New Nick, Lloyd and not a heck of a lot of new blood of any note with the possible exception of Tim and Beth. I do love this show but less and less over the last few years. Time for a shake up at HQ..

KIDDERMINSTER & WORCESTERSHIRE PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP SUPPORTER June 2018, Issue 68 REG. CHARITY NUMBER 1100718 CHAIRMAN’S LETTER. The Education Evening for all those who attended was a huge success. The response from all those who attended, and who had taken part in the evening, said it was for them a very worthwhile exercise. Thank you to Professor Joe Herbert for the specialised research on the subject of Testosterone. A number of members said, how they found the subject most fascinating and so well explained by the speaker. Recently, a number of the committee attended a meeting at Malvern. This was to explain to us, the new process of Transforming Cancer Services in Herefordshire and Worcestershire. This is what is projected to be part of the Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP). Yet another of the re- organisation of the National Health Service. We all felt, yet another change, and how was this going to be implemented. In some ways we felt it was an exercise that had to be done to show that there had been involvement of the patient and carer. As the King Fund call it ‘Tokenism’ as directed by the NHS. The STP was first introduced in 2016 to bring together Social and Health Care, which many of you will remember was divided a number of years ago, much to the detriment of so many people. At that meeting there were four subjects to discuss in 40 minutes; they were Prevention and Screening, Referral and Diagnosis, Treatment, and Living with and beyond cancer. We were allocated ten minutes to discuss each subject.

  • Lesbian Brides: Post-Queer Popular Culture
Lesbian Brides: Post-Queer Popular Culture Dr Kate McNicholas Smith, Lancaster University Department of Sociology Bowland North Lancaster University Lancaster LA1 4YN [email protected] Professor Imogen Tyler, Lancaster University Department of Sociology Bowland North Lancaster University Lancaster LA1 4YN [email protected] Abstract The last decade has witnessed a proliferation of lesbian representations in European and North American popular culture, particularly within television drama and broader celebrity culture. The abundance of ‘positive’ and ‘ordinary’ representations of lesbians is widely celebrated as signifying progress in queer struggles for social equality. Yet, as this article details, the terms of the visibility extended to lesbians within popular culture often affirms ideals of hetero-patriarchal, white femininity. Focusing on the visual and narrative registers within which lesbian romances are mediated within television drama, this article examines the emergence of what we describe as ‘the lesbian normal’. Tracking the ways in which the lesbian normal is anchored in a longer history of “the normal gay” (Warner 2000), it argues that the lesbian normal is indicative of the emergence of a broader post-feminist and post-queer popular culture, in which feminist and queer struggles are imagined as completed and belonging to the past. Post-queer popular culture is depoliticising in its effects, diminishing the critical potential of feminist and queer politics, and silencing the actually existing conditions of inequality, prejudice and stigma that continue to shape lesbian lives. Keywords: Lesbian, Television, Queer, Post-feminist, Romance, Soap-Opera Lesbian Brides: Post-Queer Popular Culture Increasingly…. to have dignity gay people must be seen as normal (Michael Warner 2000, 52) I don't support gay marriage despite being a Conservative.
