Disconcerting as it may be, all ill feelings are forgotten when I watch an auditorium of eighteen- to twenty-one-year-olds transported by the emotions, the humor, and the compulsions of his cinema. But certainly the college classroom is not the only guardian of Hitchcock ’ s fl ame. His fi lms still play at retrospectives, in fi lm festivals, in the rising number of fi lm studies classes in high schools, on Turner Classic Movies, and other networks devoted to the “ oldies. ” The wonderful Bates Motel has emerged as a TV serial prequel to Psycho , illustrating the formative years of Norman Bates; it will see a second season in the coming months. The Road to Emmy.Pages
The Road To Emmy, Part 6: Feedback From Directors and Cinematographers Director Jarrold Earns Nomination For The Girl; LOS ANGELES, September 06, 2013, Robert Goldrich --- This is a tale of two first-time primetime Emmy Award nominees: director Julian Jarrold, and DP John Pardue both nominated for The Girl, an HBO telefilm. The Girl depicts the obsession of director Alfred Hitchcock (portrayed by Toby Jones) with actress Tippi Hedren (played by Sienna Miller). When his romantic overtures are rebuffed by Hedren, Hitchcock turns abusive and sadistic towards her during their collaborations on the movies The Birds and Marnie. The Girl earned a total of six Emmy nominations: Jarrold for Outstanding Directing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Dramatic Special; Jones for Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie; Imelda Staunton (as Alma Hitchcock) for Supporting Actress; John Pardue for Cinematography; Philip Miller for Music Composition; and Diana Cilliers and Melissa Moritz for Costumes. (DP Pardue is profiled in ‘The Road To Emmy’, Part 6.) Jarrold said being an Emmy nominee is "incredibly exciting. We made a small film that's received fantastic exposure and response." Among the biggest challenges posed by The Girl, reflected Jarrold, were physically suspending disbelief for Jones' portrayal of Hitchcock and recreating the attack sequence in The Birds. On the former front, Jarrold described Jones as "a wonderful comedian and actor who transformed himself into Hitchcock. Toby spent a lot of time in makeup every morning. We didn't want a wax look, he had to be real and lifelike in character. Toby perfected the voice. -

The prize on offer was a place in the money-spinning Premiership for 2006/07, with the play off final generally acknowledged as the single most lucrative event in sport. Nick Harris in the Independent: “Never in the history of professional sport has one single fixture been as valuable as tomorrow's Championship play off between Leeds United and Watford. The £21m earned by Evander Holyfield when he beat Mike Tyson in their 1997 rematch - the richest prize fight ever - is small beer by comparison. The £10m on offer when teams vie for Champions' League qualification is a relative pittance. Beckford, Hulse and Bennett at the end of a disastrous afternoon “A win tomorrow would be worth £41m to Leeds, and £39m to Watford. This is new, extra income they will earn if they win, according to detailed analysis by The Independent. -

Umbro designs, sources, and markets football-related apparel, footwear, and equipment. Its products are sold in over 90 countries worldwide. Umbro's kit debut was in the 1934 FA Cup final, when both teams Manchester City and Portsmouth wore uniforms designed and manufactured by the company. Other teams supplied by Umbro during the 1930s and 1940s were Sheffield United, Preston North End, Manchester United and Blackpool. Umbro was the official sports manufacturer of the English FA Cup and official sponsor of The FA, being the exclusive supplier of balls to the body's leagues. In 1952, the British team at the Summer Olympics wore Umbro kits, tailored for the needs of their individual sports. Umbro would supply kits for the British Olympics team for the next 20 years. In 1957 Umbro entered the tennis market, producing sports clothing in collaboration with player Ted Tinling. This collaboration extended for three decades. Another sportsman who collaborated with Umbro was Manchester United manager Matt Busby, in 1959. That same year the company started to sell its junior boys' kits, a set of shirt, shorts and socks that would allow young players to wear the same look as their footballing idols. -
