Andrien ____________________ Adviser History Graduate Program ABSTRACT The Enlightenment, or the "Age of Reason," had a profound impact on eighteenth-century Europe, especially on its religion, producing both outright atheism and powerful movements of religious reform within the Church. The former—culminating in the French Revolution—has attracted many scholars; the latter has been relatively neglected. By looking at "enlightened" attempts to reform popular religious practices in Spain, my project examines the religious fervor of people whose story usually escapes historical attention. "Fiestas and Fervor" reveals the capacity of the Enlightenment to reform the Catholicism of ordinary Spaniards, examining how enlightened or Reform Catholicism affected popular piety in the diocese of Barcelona. This study focuses on the efforts of an exceptional figure of Reform Catholicism and Enlightenment Spain—Josep Climent i Avinent, Bishop of Barcelona from 1766- 1775. The program of “Enlightenment” as sponsored by the Spanish monarchy was one that did not question the Catholic faith and that championed economic progress and the advancement of the sciences, primarily benefiting the elite of Spanish society. In this context, Climent is noteworthy not only because his idea of “Catholic Enlightenment” opposed that sponsored by the Spanish monarchy but also because his was one that implicitly condemned the present hierarchy of the Catholic Church and explicitly ii advocated popular enlightenment and the creation of a more independent “public sphere” in Spain by means of increased literacy and education of the masses.

Given the emergency situation in housing and the foreseeable duration of the administrative procedures, the Law applies directly from now on (dispensing with the aforementioned administrative procedure), the THMA declaration in the case of municipalities that have reference indexes for housing rental prices (RI) in which rental prices have undergone increases of more than twenty percent in the period between 2014 and 2019, included in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona or with a population of more than twenty thousand citizens and which are listed in an annex included in the law. Which are the housing contracts subject to a rent containment and moderation? a) Those that are destined to the permanent residence of the tenant. b) Those in which the home is located in an area that has been declared THMA. Both circumstances must be met, and it does not matter whether the landlord is a large tenant or not. What housing contracts are excluded from this law? a) Those signed before 1 January 1995. b) Those of official protection regime. c) Those integrated in public networks of social housing or mediation for social renting or in the Rental Housing Fund for social policies.

Bratislava, Slovakia (21st – 25th August 2012) “Identifying the Employment and Population Centers at regional and metropolitan scale: The Case of Catalonia and Barcelona” Masip Tresserra, Jaume†∗ ABSTRACT: Nowadays, the urban structure of the metropolitan areas has led to a polynucleated structure, breaking with the paradigm of the monocentric city. The specialized literature has studied this polynucleated structure by identifying the centers that are within of these urban areas. According to this objective, many approaches have used in order to identify these centers (sub-centres): by analyzing the employment or population density and by studying the mobility flows. In this paper, the employment and population centers in Catalonia and in the Barcelona Metropolitan Region are identified by taking into account a new mobility approach, focusing on the flows of workers and people. In doing so, this study has carried out a dynamic analysis: from 1981 to 2010 in the case of identifying population centers and from 1991 to 2001 in the case of detecting employment centers at the time that the functional and the administrative boundaries of the Barcelona Metropolitan Region has also taken into account. Then, the influence of these identified sub-centres on the urban spatial structure is analyzed by estimating the evolution of polycentricity level and their influence on the urban hierarchy. The results by having this dynamic perspective (1981-2010) and (1991-2001) suggest: a more polynucleated structure of the Barcelona Metropolitan Region as well as the Catalan territory, an increment of the influence of the identified sub-centres on the urban hierarchy at the time that these identified centres are more dominant in terms of in-commuting flows, more self-contained in comparison with the sub-centres that are detected by using the standard employment and demographic density functions.
