Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Game Notes JACKSONVILLE JUMBO SHRIMP GAME NOTES Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (14-22) at Montgomery Biscuits (14-23) Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp – Double-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins Proud Member of the Southern League of Professional Baseball Southern League Champions 1996, 2001, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2014 Monday May 14, 2018 – 7:35 p.m. ET / 6:35 p.m. CT Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium – Montgomery, Alabama Shrimp: RHP Merandy Gonzalez (0-1, 4.50) vs. Biscuits: RHP J.D. Martin (1-5, 4.66 ERA) Game #37 – Road Game #23 (6-16) Last Game: Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp right-hander Pablo Lopez pitched a season-long seven innings but had his streak of 22 2/3 scoreless innings snapped, as Montgomery left fielder Nick Solak’s fourth-inning solo home run led the Biscuits to a 1-0 win in the second game of a five-game series at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium Sunday afternoon. Montgomery Biscuits right-hander Zach Lee (5-1), a former a major league pitcher with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, scattered nine hits in his second career shutout. His previous one also came against Jacksonville as a Dodgers minor leaguer with Chattanooga on July 4, 2013, when he went 5 1/3 scoreless innings before rain ended the game early. The Jumbo Shrimp (14-22) had at least one baserunner in eight of nine innings against Lee but left runners in scoring position in three of the first four innings. The first two batters reached in the fourth inning to put runners at first and third bases, but Lee struck out designated hitter Skyler Ewing and got third baseman Brian Schales to ground into an inning-ending double play. The Biscuits (15-22) also turned double plays after leadoff singles in the fifth and sixth innings. Lopez (0-1) began his fifth Southern League start by retiring 11 of the first 12 batters he faced, with Solak’s second-inning leadoff single as the only baserunner. Their next meeting came with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and Solak hit a first-pitch solo home run to center field, marking the first run against Lopez in his Double-A career that began this year. Lopez had shut out the Southern League on 10 hits and four walks with 22 strikeouts in his first 22 2/3 innings. Montgomery threatened to grow the lead with a runner at third base in each of the next three innings against Lopez. In the fifth inning, Schales threw out a runner trying to score, and Lopez got the final two outs of the sixth inning with two runners on base. He matched his Marlins career high with seven innings, allowing five hits with no walks and five strikeouts. In the ninth inning, right fielder John Norwood and first baseman Eric Jagielo hit consecutive singles, and left fielder Cade Gotta sacrificed both into scoring position, but Lee struck out Ewing, and Schales’ flyout to right field ended the game. UPCOMING SCHEDULE AND PROBABLE PITCHING MATCHUPS DATE OPP. TIME JUMBO SHRIMP STARTER BISCUITS STARTER Tues., May 15 at MTG 7:35 p.m. ET RHP Cody Poteet (2-3, 4.54 ERA) RHP Eduar Lopez (1-2, 4.96 ERA) Wed., May 16 at MTG 11:35 a.m. ET RHP Max Duval (1-3, 7.40 ERA) To Be Announced NEWS AND NOTES Merandy is Back: Tonight’s Jumbo Shrimp starting pitcher Merandy Gonzalez has returned to Jacksonville rotation from the Miami Marlins major league bullpen. With the Marlins, Gonzalez pitched in six games, going 2-0 with a 4.85 ERA in his time on the mound. Gonzalez started his season in Jacksonville, going 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in just two starts before he was called up to the big leagues on April 19. Balancing the Schales: Jumbo Shrimp third baseman Brian Schales is on fire heading into Monday’s game. Schales has hit safely and has multi-hit games in the past four games, with the games Thursday though Saturday being multi-hit games, hitting 7-for-15 (.467) in that stretch, driving in a pair of runs. Schales is hitting .294 over his past 10 games, and during the month of May has been one of Jacksonville’s top contributors, hitting .268 with four runs batted in, which is tied with Monte Harrison for the most this month. Bring on the Biscuits: The Biscuits fight song is a good way to start the first of three series this season between the Jumbo Shrimp and the Montgomery Biscuits, the Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. This marks Jacksonville’s only trip to Montgomery this season, while the Biscuits will return to Jacksonville from June 28 to July 3, and July 23-27. Last season the Jumbo Shrimp struggled against the Biscuits, going 2-8 against Montgomery overall, going 1-4 in series both in Montgomery and at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. April Flowers Bring May Showers: So far the month of May has not been kind to the Jumbo Shrimp. Through 12 games in May, the Jumbo Shrimp are 2-10, getting swept by the Shuckers in Biloxi and dropping four out of five games in the last series against Tennessee, and so far splitting the first two games in Montgomery. As a team, Jacksonville is hitting .191 this month with five home runs and 22 RBI, and the pitching staff is 2-10 with a 3.36 ERA with one save. May was also a losing month for the Jumbo Shrimp in 2017, going 13-15 and hitting .232 in May 2017. Shrimp Have Prospects: On the roster, the Jumbo Shrimp have five players who were listed by MLB.com as Top 30 Miami Marlins prospects for the 2018 season: OF Monte Harrison (1), Isan Diaz (7), RHP Nick Neidert (8), RHP Pablo Lopez (21), and John Norwood (30). • Minor League Baseball and Its Clubs Embodied the Mission of Milb
2019 MiLBTM COMMUNITY REPORT LETTER FROM PAT O’CONNER LETTER FROM PAT Dear Friends and Colleagues, Thank you for your efforts in making 2019 another successful philanthropic year for Minor League Baseball, our 160 teams and MiLB Charities. As we prepare for the 2020 season, we have many accomplishments from last season to celebrate. None of our efforts would be possible without the great work of our teams, continued dedication from staff at the national office and the support of our millions of fans nationwide. For a fifth straight year, all 160 clubs reported their charitable giving and contributions, allowing us to accurately assess our collective efforts. It gives me great pleasure to say that in 2019, MiLB Charities donated nearly $50 million in cash and gifts in kind from our teams, leagues and partners — once again setting a new record-high total. In addition, MiLB and its teams nearly doubled our volunteer efforts from 2018, giving more than 26,000 hours in service of our communities. This report highlights MiLB Charities’ many programs and initiatives, including the MiLB CommUNITY Initiative presented by Allegiant Air, the Stars & Stripes Caps Program with New Era Cap Company, the Derrick Hall Pro-State Foundation Father’s Day Initiative, Ed Randall’s Fans For the Cure, the Joe Torre Safe At Home Domestic Violence Awareness Initiative, and the “Cover Your Bases” Sun Safety Initiative with the American Cancer Society. These are just a few of the ways our teams and partners are working together to make positive and lasting impacts in our MiLB communities.

Twins history began in 1961 when Washington Senators president Calvin Griffith made the historic decision to move his family’s team to the Midwest, settling on the Minneapolis/St. Paul area in Minnesota. The new team was named after the state’s famous Twin Cities and began their inaugual season with a talented roster featuring Harmon Killebrew, Bob Allison, Camilo Pascual, and Jim Lemon. Homegrown talents Jim Kaat, Zoilo Versalles, Jimmie Hall, and Tony Oliva combined with the Twins already potent nucleus to make the team a force to be reckoned with in the 1960s.
