ABSTRACT Scolytid and Platypodid beetles of Sardinia (Coleoptera: Scolytidae, Platypodidae) This paper provides an overview of the quite fragmentary current knowledge on Sardinian species of the families Scolytidae and Platypodidae. A list of 48 species (47 Scolytidae, 1 Platypodidae) that are certainly present in the region was obtained, based on the literature and on data from recent surveys. For these species, brief notes regarding geonemy and ecology are given. The presence of 18 additional species (17 Scolytidae and 1 Platypodidae) is not sure and needs confi rming. For these doubtful species a critical review of the few available data is given. The 48 confi rmed species are classifi ed in their chorotypic category and some considerations are made on the relationship between these species and their host plants in Sardinia. Six Scolytidae species are confi rmed for the Sardinian fauna: Hylastes linearis Erichson, 1836, Tomicus destruens (Wollaston, 1865), T. minor (Hartig, 1834), Coccotrypes dactyliperda (Fabricius, 1801), Taphrorychus villifrons (Dufour, 1843) and Scolytus rugulosus (P.W.J. Müller, 1818). Crypturgus cribrellus Reitter, 1894 is fi rstly recorded from Sardinia, while Phloeotribus cristatus (Fauvel, 1889) is confi rmed for the fauna of northern Italy. RIASSUNTO Questo lavoro fornisce una panoramica delle conoscenze, ancora abbastanza frammentarie ed incomplete, sulle specie di Scolytidae e Platypo- didae della Sardegna. In base alle segnalazioni di letteratura e ai dati di alcune recenti raccolte, è stato ottenuto un elenco di 48 specie (47 Scolytidae, 1 Platypodidae) sicuramente presenti nella regione. Relativamente a queste specie sono fornite notizie sintetiche di tipo geonemico ed ecologico. La presenza in Sardegna di altre 18 specie (17 Scolytidae ed 1 Platypodidae) è ancora incerta e necessita di conferma; per tali specie è fornita una lettura critica dei pochi dati a disposizione. Per le 48 specie accertate sono forniti i corotipi e considerazioni sui probabili rapporti che esse stabiliscono con le loro piante ospiti in Sardegna. Sei specie di Scolytidae sono confermate per la fauna sarda: Hylastes linearis Erichson, 1836, Tomicus destruens (Wollaston, 1865), T. minor (Hartig, 1834), Coccotrypes dactyliperda (Fabricius, 1801), Taphrorychus villifrons (Dufour, 1843) e Scolytus rugulosus (P.W.J. These insects can cause impressive economic and ecological damage in the invaded environment. Thus, several countries use traps baited with pheromones and plant volatiles at ports of entry and surrounding natural areas to intercept incoming exotic species soon after their arrival and thereby reduce the likelihood of their establishment. In this study, we investigated the performance of eight trap colors in attracting jewel beetles and bark and ambrosia beetles to test if the trap colors currently used in survey programs worldwide are the most efficient for trapping these potential forest pests. In addition, we tested whether trap colors can be exploited to minimize inadvertent removal of their natural enemies.

KOMOVI AREA - MONTENEGRO SUMMARY Researches on fauna of bark beetles (Scolytidae, Coleoptera) of beech (Fagus moesiaca Domin, Maly/Czeczott.) in the area of Komovi have been carried out during 2010 and 2011 at ten localities. These are the first researches of bark beetles on beech in the area of Komovi and 11 species of bark beetles are registered. From the total number of registered species of bark beetles, species Dryocoetes villosus, Xyloterus signatus, Taphrorychus hirtellus, Xyleborus saxeseni are new for fauna of Montenegro. All registered species have primary, secondary and tertiary importance. Species Scolytus intricatus, with its additional nutrition has a primary importance, while species of genera Xyloterus and Xyleborus that live in symbiosis with Ambrosia fungi reduce aesthetic and technical quality of tree. There are situated between mountain rivers Drcka and Kraštica on the north, Tara and Veruša on the west, Kutska river and Zlorječica on the east and mountain ranges of Prokletije on the south. Contrary to remarkable tops, in the area of Komovi, there are lot of rivers and corrugated valleys that dissected relif and made it diverse and, in landscape-aesthetic view, very interesting. Geomorphological characteristics are expressed in formes originated by erosive processes, especially glacial ones that comprising Komovi and other mountains of northern Montenegro.

Norwegian Journal of Entomology 66, 19–31. The bark and ambrosia beetle collection at the University Museum in Bergen has been curated and digitized, and is available in public databases. Several species were recorded from Western Norway for the first or second time. The pine inhabiting species Hylastes opacus Erichson, 1836 is reported from Western Norway for the first time, and the rare speciesPityogenes trepanatus (Nordlinger, 1848) for the second time. The spruce inhabiting species Pityogenes chalcographus (Linnaeus, 1761) and Cryphalus asperatus (Gyllenhal, 1813), which are common in eastern Norway, were recorded in several Western Norway localities. Broadleaf inhabiting species such as Anisandrus dispar (Fabricius, 1792), Taphrorychus bicolor (Herbst, 1793), Dryocoetes villosus (Fabricius, 1792), Scolytus laevis Chapuis, 1869 and Scolytus ratzeburgi Janson, 1856 were collected for the second or third time in Western Norway. Several common species – likely neglected in previous sampling efforts – are well established in Western and Northern Norway.
