Becker, Ph.D. Dr. Becker will be keynote speaker for a conservation lecture Saturday evening, August 3; she will not be presenting in the daytime sessions. ($15 suggested donation, tax deductible) Growing up in rural North Carolina, Th ailand, and Michigan, Dusti was fortunate to be sur- rounded by nature and wildlife. She earned a B.S. in Secondary Science Education, a Masters in Environmental Science from Yale, and a Ph.D. in Zoology. Dusti has studied endangered Grevy’s zebra in Kenya, Red Squirrels in Canada, monkeys in Costa Rica, and avian com- munities in Ethiopia, , the , and the Amazon. Dusti taught wildlife ecology in Kenya and Costa Rica for the School for Field Studies and was faculty at Indiana University, Kansas State University, and University of New Mexico. She recently directed the Maui Forest Recovery Project. Dusti and her husband, Tony Povilitis, currently direct Life Net Nature, a non-profi t focusing on community-based wild- life conservation. Steve Bouricius Steve and Debbie Bouricius are members of a rare group: licensed hummingbird banders. “Hummingbird Banding: The key to researching hummingbird movements” By identifying an individual hummingbird with a unique, numbered leg band, scientists are able to trace its movements across a town, a country, or between countries—informa- tion available in no other way. Steve will share his years of experience; in addition, he and Debbie will be conducting banding demonstrations at one of the Festival’s “Humming- bird Hotspots”.

James Currie A life-long wildlife enthusiast and native of South Africa, James Currie is fast becoming the most recognizable face in birding and wildlife in North America. James hosts the popular birding TV show, Nikon’s Birding Adventures, on NBC Sports Network, now in its 4th sea- refl ect the inner world of the soul, showing us we are not separate from its beauty but inti- son.
