Saturday December 1st is a rather special day, as the Community Christmas Fair in and around the Parish Church sees Father Christmas arrive and hand out gifts to the children both at the Fair and in the town centre when the Christmas Lights are switched on and the main street becomes a magic place for the younger ones. Cleobury Mortimer is lucky in keeping this tradition alive and visitors often comment this it is rare to see such a display in a small town like ours. Big towns have shops and supermarkets who light up their streets, but such a display in a small town that is funded by the community is unusual. The December Social Calendar Part Two

We would like to say a big thank you to all the volunteers who helped put up the Christmas lights on Sunday 18th November. We also would like to thank Alan Guest and Bill White for donating the Christmas trees outside the bakery and in the Memorial Gardens. We look forward to the Christmas Fair on Saturday 1st December and will be giving out sweets to children following the switching on of the Christmas lights.

We have a Councillor vacancy. If you are interested in making a difference, representing your community and getting involved in shaping the future of the parish and would like to be considered for co-option to the Town Council please contact the office on 01299 271154 or email [email protected].

The next Council meeting is on Monday 3rd December, 7pm at the Cleobury Country Centre. We have a guest speaker, Professor John Whitelegg, who is going to speak about his campaign to reduce the speed limit on Shropshire’s residential streets to 20mph. Please come along and find out more about this project. The public are always welcome to attend Council meetings.

Following a meeting with Shropshire Council Planning department, Cleobury have been cleared to come up with their own planning document as part of Shropshire’s overall plan. This is great news as it will mean we will have real influence over housing and employment land allocations as well as how we protect and develop our environment. See www.cleobury.org.uk Neighbourhood Plan for more detail and to check on progress.

WW1 Exhibition 10/11th November

First, a very big thank you to all those who lent the wide range of items which made for a varied and interesting display. A large number were treasured family items which made their inclusion all the more exciting and appreciated. At peak times the room was full of people exchanging memories, experiences or speaking about families who they knew. This was not just an exhibition it was a proper community event.

Thanks to anyone who helped during the two days and to the Market Hall who allowed use of the space at minimal fee.
