Lichen collected from seven localities (Badrinath, enroute Bhimpul to Vasudhara, Mana, enroute Vasudhara to Mana, Bhimpul, Vasudhara Glacier and enroute Vasudhara to Bhagirathi Glacier). The highest overall IVI (6.64) was recorded for Rhizoplaca chrysoleuca. The maximum number of lichens have been documented in Badrinath locality (139 spp.) while minimum (6) in enroute Vasudhara to Bhagirathi Glacier. The Badrinath has also express maximum 71 site specific species, while the Vasudhara Glacier has only 2 species. The dominance has been computed maximum (0.17) for enroute Vasudhara to Bhagirathi Glacier while, minimum for the Badrinath (0.01). The lowest Simpson Index value (0.83) has been recorded in enroute Vasudhara to Bhagirathi Glacier while the highest (0.99) in Badrinath. The lowest value of Berger-Parker diversity index (0.03), as well as the highest values of Brillouin, Shannon, Menhinick, Margalef and Fisher alpha diversity indices (7.20, 4.78, 8.03, 24.2 and 100.6 respectively) from the Badrinath locality, designates it as a site of highest species diversity. -

Opuscula Philolichenum, 9: 77-83. 2011. A Preliminary Study of Pleopsidium stenosporum (Stizenb. ex Hasse) K. Knudsen 1 KERRY KNUDSEN ABSTRACT. – Lecanora stenospora is revised and transferred to Pleopsidium. It is known from California and Washington in western North America. The thallus morphology of the species is intermediate between P. discurrens from Tibet and P. flavum which also occurs in North America. It occurs on limestone, mafic greenstone, and probably other slightly calcareous metamorphic rocks. No collections were seen on granite, a common substrate of P. flavum. Massal. treatment for the Lichen Flora of the Greater Sonoran Desert Region (Knudsen 2007a), I saw a specimen of Lecanora stenospora Stizenb. ex Hasse from the San Gabriel Mountains in southern California (FH!). The small dispersed yellow areoles were round and convex to elongated and angular and it looked like a yellow Acarospora with unusual thallus morphology. The specimen was sterile. Shortly before his death, Bruce Ryan told me he had found one fertile apothecium on the specimen and it was an Acarospora. I assumed it might be some strange depauperate form of A. socialis H. Magn. or A. novomexicana H. Magn. It did not look like Pleopsidium flavum (Bellardi) Körb., the common species in North America. During my recent visits to the Farlow Herbarium I looked for the type specimen I had seen earlier but did not find it. Fortunately Frank Bungartz photographed it (fig. 1A). Ernie Brodo sent me an image of a strange Acarospora or Pleopsidium taken by Rob Schlingman, an engineer, while hiking on Mount Herman at 6000 feet in the Mount Baker Backcountry in the northern Cascades in Washington (fig. -

LICHEN INVENTORY OF PINNACLES NATIONAL MONUMENT FINAL PUBLIC REPORT December 12, 2003 A Project of the National Park Service Inventory and Monitoring Program San Francisco Bay Area Network Prepared by: Shelly Benson, Rare Plant Biological Technician and Lichenologist Point Reyes National Seashore Modified (3/21/05) by: Jennifer Bjork, Inventory Coordinator San Francisco Bay Area Inventory and Monitoring Network Program ABSTRACT In 1997, when the San Francisco Bay Area Network parks began identifying knowledge gaps relating to park resources, lichens were recognized as an important and poorly understood ecosystem component of Pinnacles National Monument (PINN). In January 2003 funding was awarded through the Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) program to conduct a lichen inventory of PINN. The three week long field component of the inventory produced 419 collection specimens, comprising 202 species in total. One hundred and twenty-nine of these species were first recordings for the Monument and 21 are rare in California. The discovery of two new occurrences of the Globally Rare Texosporium sancti-jacobi (TESA), a critically rare lichen, brings the total for the park to six. Additionally, range extensions were documented for two of the existing TESA occurrences. The data mining effort uncovered 241 specimens collected from PINN, comprising a total of 164 species. Ninety-one of these species were not captured by the inventory. The current number of species on PINN’s lichen species lists stands at 293 (up from 93 before this study). A complete reference collection was compiled for PINN and the remaining specimens are housed at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. In addition, a database was created for this project that meets I&M standards. -
