The trees here fulfill all desires, and the waters of immortality flow through land made of philosopher’s stone. Here, all speech is song, all walking is dancing and the flute is the Lord’s constant companion. Cows flood the land with abundant milk, and everything is self-luminous, like the sun. Apple by the Numbers U.S. album releases From the collection of Andre Gardner of NY, NY SWBO‐101 The Beatles The Beatles Released: 22 Nov. 1968 (nicknamed "The White Album") In stark contrast to the cover to Sgt. Pepper's LHCB, the cover to this two record set was plain white, with writing only on the spine and in the upper right hand corner of the back cover (indicating that the album was in stereo). This was the first Beatles US album release which was not available in mono. The mono mix, available in the UK, Australia, and several other countries, sounds quite different from the stereo mix. The album title was embossed on the front cover. Inserts included a poster and four glossy pictures (one of each Beatle). The pictures were smaller in size than those issued with the UK album. A tissue paper separator was placed between the pictures and the record. Finally, as in every EMI country, the albums were numbered. In the USA, approximately 3,200,000 copies of the album were numbered. These albums were numbered at the different Capitol factories, and there are differences in the precise nature of the stamping used on the covers. Allegedly, twelve copies with east‐coast covers were made that number "A 0000001". • Beatles Cassette Tape-Ography
A History of Beatles Cassettes Winner of the Tape War Last Modified 09 De 2012 The technology for the cassette (or compact cassette) is based on the simplest premise: make the reel to reel tape smaller. The Philips company is chiefly responsible for the cassette tape, meant as competition with the other formats. Philips developed several types of Dictaphone (voice) tapes before coming up with the “winner” in 1962. In July-August, 1963, Philips officially launched the “compact cassette” at the Berlin Radio Show (Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin). Immediately, the voice tape recorders began to be sold in Germany and in Holland. By November, 1964, Philips was marketing the first recorders – the EL-3300 – to US customers through Norelco. The four-track and eight-track cartridges had been directed at music to be played in automobiles, replacing the nasty "singles player" and reel-tape player. However, the cassette at first was deemed unsuitable for music, due to its slow speed of 1 7/8 inches per second. No reel to reel tapes featuring music were issued at 1 7/8 ips, and the cassette had a smaller bandwidth. But it came into use for voice recording. The microcassettes still used today for dictation were once a leading purpose of the cassette tape. In 1965, Philips introduced mono music cassettes in Holland, Austria, and Switzerland. As the sixties progressed, strides were made to make the cassette “more listenable,” and in Fall, 1966, the first stereo music cassettes became available in Great Britain. This followed a big push at the Chicago Music Show in July, 1966.

  • Jane's Journey
Jane’s Journey by Katie Dodson, Kristin Dunsky, Missy Tubbs Global Leadership Center, Ohio University November 4, 2007 Introduction From behind the counter of her health food store Jane looks into the community restaurant. With warm autumn light shining through large windows a large group of vibrantly dressed Indian pilgrims sit at tables eating lunch assuring that this weekend will be a busy one at New Vrindaban. “These few days will boost sales,” she thinks, as she looks over her varied assortment of health food and natural products. New Vrindaban is a spiritual community in northern West Virginia. Just south of Wheeling, the community is set in the tree-filled Appalachian Mountains. The community, founded in 1968, was transformed from a run-down farm into a spiritual commune complete with “Golden Palace,” temple, lodge, restaurant, and numerous stores. The residents of New Vrindaban practice a religion known as Hare Krishna, an eastern religion with ties to Hinduism. Most residents of this community live a highly structured lifestyle with hours of scheduled chanting, worship, and religious service while living the four-principle life style, which requires abstaining from gambling, intoxicants, illicit sex, and meat. New Vrindaban is based around the concept of “simple living and higher thinking,” but the community is not without controversy. In the 1980’s the community was enveloped in scandals based on dishonesty, hypocrisy, and greed. This is the personal story of Jane, a devotee and New Vrindaban resident since 1980 who has journeyed through the Hare Krishna movement. 2 Eager for spirituality Jane never imagined as a child that she would one day be living in one of the most devout religious communities in the United States.

BY APPLE” on the sliced side. Factories: Scranton Factories: Los Angeles, Jacksonville This single pointed to great changes in the spiritual journey of George Harrison. In early 1967, Pixie Records out of New York had morphed into Happening Records after releasing (in November ’66) an album devoted to the teachings of Dr. Timothy Lear about LSD (Pixie CA-1069). Happening released at least two notable discs: an album connected with a book by Mark Lane that questioned the investigation into President Kennedy’s murder (Happening CA-3210) and a record of instruction and song by Swami Abhaya Caranāravinda Bhaktivedanta. That album, Krishna Consciousness (Happening CA-2210), first appeared c. May 1967, and its inclusion of the maha mantra (“Hare Krishna Mantra”) came to the attention of both George Harrison and John Lennon, who reportedly bought and listened to a copy of the album. By early 1969, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) had moved to establish a temple in London. They contacted George, who provided a great deal of financial assistance and moral support. George, John, and Yoko met Bhaktivedanta in May 1969, and the spiritual master was a guest at John’s and Yoko’s home for a month. George was determined to record the members of the London temple singing the “Hare Krishna Mantra.” They recorded both sides of the single in July, and it came out shortly thereafter – being successful enough to warrant another single and an album on Apple.
