Together with the Transport and Housing Bureau, the Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design is pleased to organize a workshop on “Sensitive” Transport Design. The workshop will focus on a review and discussion of current proposals for a bus terminus/a bus interchange and footbridges/walkways for selected case studies. This will be the first of a series of upcoming workshops seeking to build a platform where HKIUD members can hold direct dialogues with the works department on various infrastructure and transport facilities projects in Hong Kong. Details are as follows: Date: 4 – 6 June 2013 Venue: Hyatt on the Bund, Shanghai, China website: http://www.asiapacsummit2013.uli.org/ Energizing Kowloon East: Kowloon Bay Business Area Pedestrian Environment Improvement Feasibility Study - Stage 1 Public Engagement With the completion of numerous new office developments in Kowloon Bay Business Areas (KBBA), the pedestrian and vehicular traffic has been increased tremendously. There is public aspiration for a more comfortable, safer and better pedestrian environment. AECOM Asia Co.Ltd. was commissioned by the Energizing Kowloon East Office (EKEO) of the Development Bureau in February this year to undertake the Study: Kowloon Bay Business Area Pedestrian Environment Improvement Feasibility Study. The Study would review and assess the existing pedestrian and traffic environment in KBBA, estimate the future growth of pedestrian and traffic flows and investigate and produce feasible proposals in the short, medium to long-term to enhance pedestrian connectivity in KBBA with Kowloon Bay MTR Station and the waterfront of Kai Tak Development. In order to receive the views and comments from the public regarding the pedestrian and traffic environment in KBBA, a 3-stage public engagement exercise will be carried out. The Stage 1 Public Engagement commenced. In order to collect the views and formulate the main strategy and improvement proposals, the 1st Public Forum will be held on 8th June 2013. Tung Chung New Town Extension Study Invitation to Participation in the Stage 2 Public Engagement The Planning Department (PlanD) and Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) are jointly conducting a Planning and Engineering Study on Tung Chung New Town Extension with the key objective to develop Tung Chung into a distinct new town that can meet housing, social, economic, environmental needs of local residents and Hong Kong’s strategic development. In the Stage 1 Public Engagement conducted from June to August 2012, the public generally agreed that Tung Chung has the potential for further development. Taking into account the public views collected and the planning and engineering considerations, initial land use options for extending the Tung Chung New Town in a holistic manner have been formulated. The Stage 2 Public Engagement will commence on 21 May 2013 and will last for two months until 21 July 2013. PlanD and CEDD would like to collect public’s views on the initial land use options with the aim to achieving broad consensus on the planning direction, scale and area of development for subsequent advancement of the planning process. In this regard, HKIUD Members are cordially invited to participate in the Community Workshop and Public Forum of the study.
