It is particularly 9:00am useful for new members to get to know others. Shepherd’s is an ideal venue, with high quality, friendly climbs in a sheltered location. 9 April Evening Hutton Roof (SD 566 783) Crooklands An ideal place to make the transition from indoors to out, with short routes and lots of bouldering. Hope we Ian Harrison get a big turn out to start the season off well. [email protected] Pub: Kings Arms, Burton in Kendal 16 April Evening Farleton Crag/ Newbiggin (Routes or bouldering) (SD 539 797) Crooklands Another early season favourite. Choose between routes (and some bouldering) at Farleton or bouldering at Newbiggin on the other side of the fell. Restricted parking, car sharing essential Pub: Smithy Inn, Holme 23 April Evening Twistleton Scars (SD 716 762) Crooklands This popular Limestone crag has a great outlook overlooking Ingleborough. With a huge choice of short John Hollingworth routes on offer, an evenings visit will give you just a taster of what’s on offer. You have to pay to park at the [email protected] farm so car sharing advisable Pub: Marton Arms, Thornton in Lonsdale 30 April Evening Castle Rock, Thirlmere / Carrock Fell (routes or bouldering) (NY 321 196) / (NY 356 324) Plumgarths Choose between the steep routes of Castle Rock North Crag, the more amenable South Crag or for something completely different, bouldering on the Gabbro of Carrock Fell. Pub: Traveller’s Rest, Grasmere 2 May Social First Thursday of the month at the Castle, Kendal from 9.30 pm onwards 7 May Evening Gouther Crag, Swindale (NY 515 128) Morrisons Swindale is a lovely valley and it’s always great to climb here. Gouther has some fine routes of varying Rich Walker lengths across two main butresses. Hopefully less midgy with this earlier slot on the schedule. [email protected] Pub: Mardale Inn, Bampton 11 May Saturday Grey Crag, Buttermere (NY 171 148) Shaw Brown Plumgarths Lets hope for a dry spell of weather to give us access to this great crag with the option of linking up some [email protected] 8:30am great Classic routes 14 May Evening Stickle Barn Crag / Scout Crags (NY 294 068) / (NY 298 067) Plumgarths Our first meet of the year in Great Langdale, this time to a rarely visited set of crags by the club. Located Ken Taylor within a few minutes walks of the Stickle Barn main Langdale carpark. Scout Crags offer easier grades with [email protected] a short walk up the hillside to Stickle Barn Crag. Pub: Stickle Barn, Great Langdale 21 May Evening Thorn Crag (SD 595 570) Crooklands An offering for those gritstone fans amongst you. A return to this crag after a 4 year gap. Possibly the only gritstone crag with a sea view?? Brace yourselves for a longer walk than to Stanage, but the climbing and/or bouldering is worth it when you get there. Hopefully early enough to avoid the worst of the midges. Pub: The Ship, Caton 17 - 19 Weekend North Wales Paul Arckless May Weekend in North Wales to be arranged [email protected] 28 May Evening Oxenber (SD 778 683) Crooklands A new venue for the club. This is a pleasant little limestone outcrop overlooking Austwick offering some reasonably well protected routes with a good range of grades. Pub: Game Cock Inn, Auswick 4 June Evening White Ghyll (NY 297 072) Plumgarths Another classic Langdale Crag. The steep scramble up the ghyll always feels hard, but the superb climbing is Neil Pacey more than adequate compensation. [email protected] Pub: Stickle Barn, Great Langdale 6 June Social First Thursday of the month at the Castle, Kendal from 9.30 pm onwards 8 June Saturday Dow Crag (SD 264 977) Rich Walker Plumgarths Another brilliant high mountain crags with several routes of outstanding quality. Fingers crossed for a good [email protected] 8:30am spell of weather for this huge crag. 11 June Evening Quayfoot Buttress/ Wooden Face (NY 253 167) Plumgarths A longer drive around to Borrowdale but a very short walk in to some great routes. Bowderstone Crag is also within easy reach for some long easy routes Pub: Pheasant Inn, Keswick 18 June Evening Pavey Ark (NY 285 078) Max Biden Plumgarths Another amazing Langdale Crag with amazing textured rock providing unique climbing. Great outlook [email protected] overlooking Stickle Tarn. It will be a long evening but well worth it! Pub: Stickle Barn, Great Langdale 21 – 23 Weekend Wasdale Camping Meet Anne Salisbury June A chance to visit this remote corner of the Lake District with access to some great Mountain Crags. Making [email protected] use of the weekend of the longest day will allow for good long days out and a Saturday night BBQ. 25 June Evening Gimmer Crag (NY 277 070) Plumgarths A crag you can never get enough of! Wonderful climbing on perfect rock in the heart of the Lake District. It Shaw Brown will be another long evening but again well worth it!. Pub: Old Dungeon Ghyll, GreatLangdale 2 July Evening Black Crag / Long Scar (NY 272 036) Plumgarths The highest car park of the season, at the top of the Wrynose Pass. Both crags have immaculate rock and are George North well worth visiting, with Long Scar offering more routes in the easier grades. [email protected] Pub: Three Shires Inn, Little Langdale 4 July Social First Thursday of the month at the Castle, Kendal from 9.30pm onwards 9 July Evening Shepherd’s Crag, Borrowdale (NY 263 185) Plumgarths Back to Shepherd’s again, this time for an evening meet. An opportunity to explore some of those routes that were too busy earlier in the season. Pub: Pheasant Inn, Keswick 16 July Evening Armathwaite, Eden Valley (NY 505 453) Paul Arckless Morrisons Although this crag looks quite far from Kendal, good road access allows for a quick 35 – 40 minute journey [email protected] to this very extensive river side sandstone crag. Very short walk in will offer plenty of time to explore most of what this crag has to offer. Pub: Dukes Head Pub, Armathwaite 23 July Evening Raven Crag, Langdale (NY 285 064) Plumgarths An old favourite, which sits impressively above the Old Dungeon Ghyll in Langdale. If you’ve done all the routes on the main crag, you may want to head for the East or Far East Buttresses. Pub: Old Dungeon Ghyll, Langdale 19th July – 2 weeks Mountaineering trip to Chamonix in the French Alps. Conan Harrod 4th August More info to follow (dates approximate) [email protected] 20th July – 2 weeks Via Ferrata/Walking/Climbing trip to the Dolomites Joanne Larty 4th August More info to follow (dates approximate) [email protected] 30 July Evening Giggleswick Scar (Yorkshire bolt climbing) (SD 806 652) Ken Taylor Crooklands A change from mountain rock and back to the limestone. Giggleswick offers short bolted limestone routes [email protected] and a walk in of no more than ten minutes. The Upper crag is still trad if you don’t like bolts! Pub: New Inn, Clapham 1 Aug Social First Thursday of the month at the Castle, Kendal from 9.30pm onwards 6 Aug Evening Scratchmere Scar, Plumpton (NY 515 379) Morrisons Our second trip to the Eden valley. This recently re-opened crag offers a great range of routes of all grades Pub: Stoneybeck Inn near jn 41 of the M6 13 Aug Evening Buckbarrow (LongSleddale) (NY 482 074) Morrisons A mountain crag in the far reaches of the quiet and beautiful valley of Longsleddale. Some great long routes make the walk in well worth while. (or take your mountain bike!) Pub: The Castle, Kendal 17 Aug Saturday Almscliffe (SE 268 490) Crooklands A chance to visit one of North Yorkshires most popular crags. The quality and quantity of climbing at this George North 8:30am crag will more than make up for the long drive. [email protected] 20 Aug Evening Raven Crag Walthwaite / Chapel Stile / Langdale boulders (Routes or bouldering) (NY 325 057) Plumgarths Our final meet of the year in Great Langdale, with a choice between routes at Raven Crag or bouldering at Chapel Stile or Langdale boulders. There are some classic problems at the Langdale boulders, but Chapel Stile provides a bigger range and variety, with some easier ones. Pub: Wainwright’s, Chapel Stile 27 Aug Evening Warton Pinnacle and/or Upper Crag (SD 491 728) Levens Hall With shorter evenings its back to the limestone. These two crags offer short routes or bouldering. layby Alternatively you might prefer the bolts of the Main Quarry Terrace or even the scary trad routes below. Pub: George Washington Inn, Warton 3 Sept Evening Whitestone Crag (SD 389 848) Les Williams Levens Hall A small, friendly little crag, situated near the top of Whitestone, a striking little fell above the South Lakes [email protected] layby Road near Newby bridge.
