Munro and his crew had an uneventful sea crossing before being hit by light flak as they crossed the Dutch coast over Vlieland. The Lancaster sustained damage to the mast compass and intercom leaving then without internal communication. This rendered their mission impossible as the attack on the dams was a co-ordinated procedure between all crew members.
