MoCo Goes Hollywood Hello families, We are extremely excited to return to the Redfern Arts Center for live performances after more than a year of being away from the stage. The students have been incredible over the last year and they continue to work very hard in preparation for their return to the stage. We have sent out the commitment letter to you all and we would like to remind you to refresh your memory with the three policies required for a student to perform. There is a change to the rehearsal schedule which will be included in this packet. If you have not signed the letter yet, please do so and return to the front desk. Both MoCo and the Redfern have COVID protocols for performers and audience members. All this information is included in the packet. This year the show will have a very different look from our normal shows and below are the changes and explanations behind these decisions. First, with a limit of people backstage, we had to spilt students into 2 separate shows. We are limited to the number of people we can allow backstage, which includes performers, staff, and volunteers. There is a Saturday cast and a Sunday cast. Each cast will have 2 shows on their performance day. Saturday’s cast performs at 4pm and 7pm on June 5th, while Sunday’s cast performs at 2pm and 5pm on Sunday June 6th. Each show will run about an hour as we are not able to have an intermission. Depending on what classes they are in, some students perform both days while others only perform on one day. Each show has completely different classes performing, so the two shows are not the same. If your child is performing both days, this means you will have to attend, or stream shows on both days to see all their classes. Having a limit on people backstage was the deciding factor when making this decision. Unfortunately, there was no way to make sure every student performed all their dances on the same day. We had to look at the entire picture when laying out the show and could not look at individual students and when they would be performing. Second, because there is a limit to numbers backstage and with the Redfern’s and MoCo’s protocols, we had to redesign our backstage layout. In working with the Redfern, we have increased the number of dressing rooms backstage and have reduced the numbers of people per room. Every room will have a volunteer chaperone with the students and students will have socially distanced space for themselves and their personal belongings. Every dressing room will have a TV for students to be able to watch the show when not on stage. We feel this will give them a sense of being all together while we keep people separated as much as possible during the performance. Our volunteer coordinators have laid out a plan to safely move students to and from stage. We will also have different sign in locations when entering the theatre. This will be based off the location of your child’s dressing room within the building. There will be additional information going out about this in the next few weeks. Third, we are limited to 150 audience seats per performance for safety purposes. The theatre normally seats 570 people, and by limiting the seats we had to look at how we could best serve “Transforming lives through movement and creative expression.” MoCo Arts ~ 40 Roxbury Street ~ Keene NH 03431 ~ 603-357-2100 ~ www.moco.org our students families in the sale of tickets. Each student will be allotted 2 tickets per day. If a child performs on Saturday, they will get 2 tickets to one of the shows (but not both. You also may not split the tickets between shows). The Redfern has laid out their socially distanced seating chart in pairs of two and cannot adjust the chart. Therefore, tickets will be sold in pairs of 2, meaning you must purchase 2 tickets. There is one ticket price and that is $25 per ticket ($50 for the pair). With only 150 tickets per show, our revenue is greatly affected, plus our costs are higher given the added dressing rooms and rehearsal day. With the change in ticketing and to assure every student’s family can see them dance, there will be no online sales. The Redfern was not able to adapt their ticketing software to make this possible for what we needed. You will be able to call the Redfern’s box office at 603-358-2168 starting May 17th. They will have the students’ names and you will be able to choose which of the two shows you attend while supplies last (every family will be able to attend). Starting May 26th all unsold pairs of tickets will be released to the public. We know this is not ideal, but it is the best possible scenario given all the limitations in place. One exception to this will be on the last performance on Sunday. We have made it possible for the seniors’ families to have additional tickets for the last performance on Sunday (all tickets on Sunday sold to seniors’ families will be for the last show). We will once again have our senior moment on stage this year at the end of the last show. We will be reaching out to the senior families separately with more information regarding tickets. We thank all families for understanding this exception for these students and families in their last MoCo performance. Fourth, as you may know we have been pre-recording our performances this year and streaming them to our community. We will live stream these performances over the weekend at the scheduled performance time. You will need to contact the Redfern’s box office at 603-358-2168 to purchase the streaming package. The cost to stream the shows is $25 and it will allow you to watch all four performances over the weekend. If you perform on Saturday only and your friend performs on Sunday, this is a great option to watch and support them. This also gives the opportunity for you to see every performance of your child, as well as have family and friends see them. We know this is a big change from years past and we believe this is the best path forward given the current state of the world at this point. We are greatly restricted on the revenue we can bring in with in person ticketing and cost are greater than a normal year. We understand this may increase the cost from a normal year. We believe the kids deserve to be back on stage live and ask for your understanding with all the changes. Our entire staff has been working extremely hard the last year to keep the kids engaged. This has included figuring out a way to return to in person performances while keeping the kids, you, and our staff safe. We thank you for your understanding and continued support. I look forward to seeing you all at the theatre to celebrate your amazing kids!
