JOLLY HOLIDAY by Kira Prince DRAFT © 2017 Kira Prince 2. QUEUE: The queue for Jolly Holiday combines several queuing ideas under one roof. The queue starts and ends as a traditional queue but the main portion is a thoroughly modern "virtual queue" with activities and distractions. It takes much inspiration from the world of immersive theatre with several live characters populating the micro-land and interacting with each other as well as the guests. EXT. EDWARDIAN LONDON TOWN - ENTRANCE / TRADITIONAL QUEUE 1 A quaint town on the outskirts of London sits proudly awaiting its visitors. The buildings are close together and sit helter-skelter. A variety of chimneys stick up charmingly at odd angles. Underscore of The Life I Lead and the Overture plays. At night silhouettes of chimney sweeps mulling about are seen on this skyline. Occasionally underscore of Step in Time breaks out and the sweeps dance about the rooftop. A large archway sits in the center of the facade leading us to the street that curves away beneath it. ALLEY - TRADITIONAL QUEUE 1 As we venture onto this street/alleyway the slim facades of various slightly grimy businesses and residences are seen. Signs in the windows advertise their wares and various doors and staircases hint at the residents living above. If you listen closely you might hear the LAUGH of UNCLE ALBERT echoing inside his wood-paneled walls. Some row homes can be seen through gaps in the buildings on the next street over (the exit queue). As we approach another bend the buildings pull away to reveal the gate to Cherry Tree Lane.

Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins JR CHARACTER BREAKDOWN MALES Bert, the narrator of the story, is a good friend to Mary Poppins. An everyman, Bert is a chimney sweep and a sidewalk artist, among many other occupations. With a twinkle in his eye and skip in his step, Bert watches over the children and the goings-on around Cherry Tree Lane. He is a song-and-dance man with oodles of charm who is wise beyond his years. We are looking for a very strong singer, dancer and actor for this role. Songs: Prologue Practically Perfect (Playoff) Jolly Holiday Winds Do Change Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Twists and Turns Playing the Game/Chim Chim Cher-ee Let’s Go Fly a Kite Step in Time Step in Time (Playoff) A Spoonful of Sugar (Reprise) George Banks, husband to Winifred and father to Jane and Michael, is a banker to the very fiber of his being. Demanding “precision and order” in his household, he is a pipe-and-slippers man who doesn’t have much to do with his children, and believes that Miss Andrew, his cruel, strict, childhood nanny, gave him the perfect upbringing. George’s emotional armor, however off-putting, conceals a sensitive soul. A baritone (lower singer), George may also speak-sing and should be a very strong actor. DICK VAN DYKE – STEP IN TIME! – A MUSICAL MEMOIR World Premiere in Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater at the Geffen Playhouse on December 16 LOS ANGELES, October 13, 2010 — Stage and screen icon Dick Van Dyke will appear onstage at the Geffen Playhouse in Dick Van Dyke – Step in Time! – A Musical Memoir, a world premiere production that highlights the artist’s truly scrumptious six-decades in the entertainment industry. The play, which is co- written by Van Dyke and the play’s director Joshua Ravetch, is a living autobiography pulling stories and songs from Van Dyke’s celebrated career. To help bring the show to life with music, Van Dyke will be joined on stage by Eric Bradley, Bryan Chadima and Mike Mendyke – three young singers who together with Van Dyke form the singing quartet “The Vantastix.” Step in Time, named for Richard and Robert Sherman’s song and Van Dyke’s signature dance number in Mary Poppins, will begin in the intimate Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater at the Geffen Playhouse with previews on December 8, 2010. The official opening is on December 16, 2010 and it will run through January 16, 2011. "I'm having the best so-called retirement of anyone I know, doing what I love doing," said Van Dyke. "Eventually I may try something less strenuous." Geffen Playhouse Producing Director Gil Cates and his team have been collaborating with Van Dyke and Ravetch on the development on this piece. Ravetch previously worked at the Geffen developing and directing the world premiere of Wishful Drinking with Carrie Fisher.

Mary Poppins
MARY POPPINS Mary Poppins is a musical with music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, with additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, and a book by Julian Fellowes. The musical is based on a series of children's books by P. L. Travers and the 1964 Disney film, and is a fusion of various elements from the two. Produced by Walt Disney Theatrical and Cameron Mackintosh, and directed by Richard Eyre with co-direction from Matthew Bourne who also acted as co-choreographer with Stephen Mear, the original West End production opened in December 2004 and received two Olivier Awards, one for Best Actress in a Musical and the other for Best Theatre Choreography. Following the success of the West End production, a Broadway production with a nearly identical creative team debuted on November 16, 2006 at the New Amsterdam Theatre. Broadway performer Ashley Brown was brought on board to play the title role, and Gavin Lee, who had originated the role of Bert in the West End production, reprised his role in the Broadway production. From the “Mary Poppins Education Series – The Magic of Mary”: “To create the magic used in Mary Poppins, the producers turned to celebrated theatrical illusionist Jim Steinmeyer – famous for his work with magicians, including David Copperfield and Siegfried & Roy - and for the flying effects, the legendary Flying by Foy, who have set new standards for flying on the Broadway stage for over 50 years.” Ashley Brown: “I wasn’t flown for the first time until about two weeks before we opened in New York…and it’s really become one of my favorite moments, because I can see the faces of the people for the first time, and just see how everybody is reacting.” Gavin Lee: “When I walk around the proscenium arch and tap dance and sing upside down, I can hear the audience every night, applauding, the kids gasping and pointing up there and it’s just a thrill to be able to do this magical sort of trick.” We’ve found a whole new spin… …if you reach for the heavens, you get the stars thrown in!
