The inauguration of the new exhibition was attended by the CEO of Maserati, Harald Wester, and the Chairman of Ferrari, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo. They were joined by the cousins Carlo and Alfieri Maserati, sons, respectively, of Ettore and Ernesto Maserati, the two brothers who in 1914, together with Alfieri Maserati, founded the company that still bears their name today. The guest of honour at the inauguration was the legendary Sir Stirling Moss, the 1950s Maserati racing driver who scooped incredible victories for the Trident marque.

Date: 29 July 2014 Maserati centennial exhibition open throughout the summer A unique exhibition in terms of the quality of the models on show, like the only remaining V4 16 cylinder and the A6 1500 of 1947, Maserati’s first road-going car. It’s held at the MEF, the Museo Enzo Ferrari, which “looks at” the Maserati headquarters in Viale Ciro Menotti, Modena and which also exhibits extraordinary Ferraris and Alfa Romeos. A month on from the opening of the exhibition dedicated to the Maserati centennial, MASERATI 100 - A Century of Pure Italian Luxury Sports Cars , the initial response from the public has been highly positive, with nearly 20,000 visitors. The celebration of a century of history for a car manufacturer allows the public to relive the story of an epoch and thrill, as they observe the course of events and unfolding of technological progress both through the cars on display and a film that stirs the passion of visitors with no fewer than 19 different projectors. Through anecdotes, curiosities, stories of exceptional men, rare and prestigious vehicles, also due to their current financial value. Visitors have the opportunity – unique, rather than rare – to admire the only Maserati Tipo V4 Sport 16 cylinderstill remaining in the world. In 1929 Alfieri Maserati twinned two 2-litre engines from the Tipo 26 in a single crankcase, with the two crankshafts linked by gears. On 28th September of the same year in Cremona, Baconin Borzacchini set the World Record for the Flying 10 Kilometres with the Tipo V4, at an average speed of 246.069 km/h.

  • Grand Prix Facts & Numbers
There is no way to know when and who exactly invented the internal combustion power concept, but in 1860 Jean Joseph Étienne Lenoir patented a gas-fired apparatus with piston, cylinder, connecting rods, and flywheel that became commercially viable. Nikolaus Otto improved the concept into a more efficient four-stroke internal combustion unit in 1876. Then in 1885, Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach developed the design further and patented a practical petrol engine. Few months later Daimler constructed the first real automobile, and in 1912 Peugeot introduced the modern twin-cam engine concept. The first racing driver in history was arguably Frenchman Georges Bouton, who raced a De Dion-Bouton alone against the clock from Pont de Neuilly to Bois de Boulogne in Paris as early as 28 April 1887, but the first recorded auto race was held on 22 July 1894 on the route from Paris to Rouen. Within months, more races were held in France, Italy and the USA, and the era of city-to-city auto racing took off. By the turn of the century there were about 25 annual automobile races held in Europe and North America. However, until 1901 there was no proper definition of what constituted ‘an automobile’. The winners of the 1894 Paris-Rouen (Comte Jules de Dijon) and the 1895 Paris- Bordeaux-Paris (Émile Levassor) races were denied prize money because the organizers have decided that their vehicles were not viable as passenger road cars. The steam powered De Dijon-Bouton was classified as a tractor. First petrol engine car across the finish line was a Peugeot of Georges Lemaître, who arrived several minutes after de Dijon.

  • 6 June 2014 International Maserati Centennial Gathering to Be Held In
Date: 6 June 2014 International Maserati Centennial Gathering To be held in September Three days from Modena to Turin, with a racetrack stop in Cremona, to celebrate Maserati’s first century. With a prologue in Bologna at the Fountain of Neptune, which inspired Maserati’s logo. The International Maserati Centennial Gathering will be held from September 18 through September 20. The world event will begin in Modena on Thursday, September 18, and end in Turin on Saturday, September 20. The three days will see a succession of exhibitions, parades, a regularity race, a track test, a visit to the two Maserati factories and a concours d'elegance. Cars and collectors from all over the world are expected to be in attendance. A hundred years have gone by since, in December of 1914, Alfieri Maserati and his brothers Ettore and Ernesto opened the first car repair workshop in a basement on Via de’ Pepoli, Bologna. Here, before Italy entered the First World War and in the months that immediately followed the end of the conflict, they began to prepare and modify cars for themselves – the three Maserati brothers were also rather capable drivers – and the gentleman drivers of those heroic days. These were the first steps of a company that in time was to become an international icon of Italian motoring. The Maserati Centennial Gathering will begin in the morning on Thursday, September 18, in Modena with the arrival of the historic and contemporary models that will be taking part in the event and their display in some of the most captivating urban spaces.
