The Uncatchable Charizard The Uncatchable Charizard This is the story of Barry. He is a boy with twelve years old, tousled black hair, green eyes and slim physique. He wears a purple scraf, a red T-shirt, blue pants and black shoes. He comes from palette town and he wants to become a pokemon master defeating the pokemon league. His starter was Squirtle and he eventually evolved into a Wartortle. In the Mt. Moon, he caught an Abra who evolved to a Kadabra and learned psychic by TM. The last member of his actual team is a Machop that he recived form a man in Cerulean City. He defeated Brock and Misty and his next objective is to cross the Nugget Bridge and visit Bill. In the end of the bridge, he fought a rocket team reclute who told him to go to a cave near Route 24. “You are strong kid, maybe you can capture the legendary pokemon of the cave. You just need a pokeball and a pokemon that learns this” The reclute said and give him the TM surf. He doesn’t wait and made wartortle learn the TM and surfed to the Cerulean Cave. Once inside, he looked everywhere for that long-awaited pokemon. He saw the figure of a pokemon and trow it a pokeball. “Insolent human…” said the figure approaching Barry, revealing that it was the legendary Mewtwo. “W-Woah! Who are you?! Are you the legendary pokemon?” Said the pokemon trainer with a surprised fase. “Indeed, I am mewtwo a legendary pokemon. And you are a human who should not be in my territory since I detest them, and more because they want to capture me as you tried. Anyway, I'll just tell you something. From today, you will not be able to capture me or any other pokemon” Said the psychic type and shot a mysterious purple beam towards the human before leaving. Barry is hitted by the beam and sees Mewtwo go away. “Hey! Come back!” Barry said and ran after the legendary pokemon but he heard the sound of ripped pants and look back to see that a long orage reptilian tail was grow in his butt. “What is goin on?!” Said the trainer before he experimented another strange sensation. His skin was changing, becoming orange scales. “This doesn´t looks good” He says looking his orage scaled arm. The pokemon trainer looks his hand to find claws growing and his fingers fusing making a hand of three clawed fingers. “Yikes…” Wartortle was shocked but not like Barry.He was so shocked that he stumbled and fell backwards, looking his big tail with a flame in the end. “W-Why is this happening?” Said in the human but then he felt something in his feet. They were growing and changing, becoming big paws with three clawed fingers. The feet smashed shoes from within and showed up like the star of the show while the hands and arms reduced their size. “Wait, that means…” He blushed when he heard his belly growl and start to grow at the same time as his pants ripped because his legs were growing big. His underbelly was filled by yellow scales and the sides and back were orange like his arms, hands, legs, feet and tail. “I think I ripped my underwear” He said blushed and he was right, the growing legs ripped the pants and the underwear of the boy. Meanwhile, his belly grew so much that he could barely see his feet and he knew that his change would now go to the head. “I am not Chaready… Hm?! What the Zard was that?!” He was losing the ability to speak and he starts to growl like a wild pokemon. This change of voice was product of his neck getting longer and covered by yellow and orange scales but his scraf was still around his neck. “Char, Charizard. Charizard Zard!” (Arceus, help me. please!) He was trying to speak but he couldn't modulate a word. His T-shirt was ripped by the growing belly and the shoulders, and the last step was the face starting with the shape. Two horns of orange scales emerged from the back of his head and his hair was disappearing. His green eyes turned light blue, his ears disappear and his nose and mouth fused into a dragonian muzzle. Finally, from his back emerged two big wings with orange and blue scales. He let out a loud roar when they came out, but now he noticed. Now he was an imponent Charizard with a purple scraf. “Char, Charizard!” (I don’t want to be a Charizard!) he said and ran out from the Cerulean Cave roaring fiercely. “Charizard! Char! Charizard Zard!” (Someone! help me! I’m traped in a Charizard’s body!) Tried to say Barry with despair, but his words were incomprehensible for the human ears. The roars made some trainers alarmed and prepared to capture such a precious pokemon but Barry didn’t notice this and keep tryig to talk even if were trainers after him. The roars and growls came to an abrupt end when Barry was knocked out by a wáter type movement. Some minutes later… Barry waked up and noticed that he still has the body of a Charizard. He was a bit sad but he heard voices near him. “ Thanks Arceus, you’re awake trainer!” Said Machop with a big smile. “Sorry by the hit, I needed you calm down” Said Wartortle with a hand behind his head. “Oh yeah, your great idea for calm down our trainer is hit him with a super efective move. Woaw” Said Kadabra with a sarcastic tone. “Woaw, woaw, woaw. Hold on. So now I can understand you?” Barry the charizard said confused. “Yeah, that’s right” Machop answered. “Ok… it’s strange, but cool” the charizard smiled after saying that and then his belly growled. He blushed “Oh, Yeah! You most be hungry, so we brought these berries” Said Wartortle pulling out some Oran berries from Barry's backpack that was now carried by Machop. “Oh, thanks guys” He said but then he noticed a strage flavour in his mouth. He didn’t give importance and start eating the Oran berries. “I hope you like these ones like that ones” Said Kadabra bringing Sitrus berries for Barry to eat. “Oh, thanks Kadabra” Barry said with his muzzle filled with berries. He didin’t noticed that his belly started to grow bigger. “Well Barry, we will going to search for more berries. Have fun eating!” Said Wartortle and walk away with Kadabra and Machop. Barry continued eating and look around. This absolutely wasn't Cerulean City. Big green tres were around the Charizard and he recognize the place, He was in Viridian Forest. “Hmmm… that’s weird” He thought as he continued to gobble the berries. His belly was growling and growing bigger but Barry didn’t notice this and keep munching. “We are back!” Heard Barry watching how Wartortle, Machop and Kadabra came back with more berries. “Oh, hi guys, I have a question for ya. How exactly we got here?” Said Barry with a final belch. He was blushed and he finished all the berries. “Well… I used teleport after Wartortle knocked you and we get to this place” Kadabra said and Wartortle laughs nervous. “Oh, that makes sense. And… Oh my Arceus!” He blushed and screamed when he notices his big and growing belly. “What is happening to me?” “Hmm… this is not usual. Normally Charizard is not that big” Kadabra said in shock. “Guys, I think is my fault. I gave Barry a strange berry to eat to try to wake him up” Said machop a bit nervous. “What? So this is the effect of a Berry?” Asked the charizard “Yeah… but doesn’t look so bad. You look like a big pillow!” Said the fighting type hugging his trainer. “That actually gave me an idea” Said Wartortle “Kadabra, use psychic” “Oh, I get it” The psychic type used psychic to keep Barry in his place. “G-Guys! What are you doing?” Said the Charizard trying to scape moving his hands and feet but it didn’t work. “Don’t worry, Barryzard. We won’t hurt you” Said Wartortle “All we want is feed you” He take some berries from the bag and climed to feed him. “Wha… Hmp!” Immediately after opening his snout, Wartortle put some berries for him toe at. “Enjoy your meal” Said Kadabra with a smile. “hey! I want to feed him too” Said Machop taking berries and feeding Barry. The Charizard was nervous and his body starts to grow fat. His belly was like a giant heavy and soft ball. His pecs grow becoming like heavy yellow scaled basketballs. His butt does not want to be left behind and grew up showing a round fat butt. “P-Please, stop” Said Barry with a sad face. “Don’t worry Barry, this will make the trainers unable to catch you. Even with a heavyball” Said Wartortle giving him more to eat. The Charizard was about to say something but Wartortle was right. With this pokemon body, other humans can be able to catch him and he doesn’t want to fight for other trainer. “O-Okay, keep feeding me” He said nervously before being silenced by more berries reaching his mouth. Barry was munching the berries that Wartortle and Machop brought him and his body continues growing with fat. He was stroking his belly but suddenly his arms changed their posture due to the fat that accumulated in them, leaving his arms almost immobile.

    From Desumasu to Buzzwole: A categorization of Japanese-to-English translation methods in localized Pokémon names Don Arvidsson Bachelor thesis, Japanese JAPK11, Spring Term 2018 Lund University, Centre for Languages and Literature Supervisor: Shinichiro Ishihara Abstract This study explored the localization of the fictional species names in the Pokémon multimedia franchise. The relations and changes between the semantic units included in 807 Pokémon names were analysed using a framework of existing translational categories of proper names within onomastics (Vermes 2001, Ainiala, Saarelma and Sjöblom 2012), semantic analysis (Nida 1975) and general translation theories (Vinay and Darbelnet 1958). This way, a categorization of methods of translation (localization) was established. Five main categories - borrowing, equivalence, modulation, modification and recreation – were found, as well as a total of 25 sub-categories. While overlap between categories and sub-categories occurred frequently, Modulation was the largest main category with 618 occurrences and Recreation the smallest with 37 occurrences.
