    MODELS OF ARCHITECTURE FROM THE MIDDLE AGES TO PRESENT ON THE VALLEY OF STRUMA RIVER Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria Brestovo Monastery “St. Archangel Michael”, Municipality of Simitly, Bulgaria Pirin village, Bulgaria Melnik, Bulgaria Serres, Greece Blagoevgrad is the largest city in Southwest Bulgaria, the administrative center of Blagoevgrad District and Blagoevgrad Municipality. It is situated at the foot of the southwestern slopes of the Rila Mountain, in the valley of the Struma River, 100 km south from the capital Sofia. The city is located on the two banks of the Bistritsa river, just before its inflow into the Struma River. Besides the clear waters of the river, important factors for the development of the city were the mineral springs and the favorable central location of the city, situated between Sofia and Thessaloniki, Kyustendil and Razlog. About 35 km away from the city, in the upper course of the Bistritsa River, is located the ancient Parangalitsa forest - one of the most valuable reserves in Bulgaria. In 1973, it was proclaimed by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. The history of Blagoevgrad dates back to 10th century BC. The Thracian settlement Skaptopara (Upper Market) was founded around the mineral springs around 300 BC. This settlement has been associated with the Thracian tribe Denteleti who inhabited the upper valley of the Struma River. In the 1st century AD the Thracians were conquered by the Romans. A Roman settlement from 3rd-5th century has been discovered in 2017, near the village of Pokrovnik, about 3 km from Blagoevgrad. The establishment’s location did coincide with the planned route of Struma highway and it has been destroyed, with only a few of the excavated buildings being moved away from the road.

INTERNATIONAL Nikola Zečević University of Donja Gorica Abstract: The paper explores and analyzes the influence of the Russian Revolution in developing and promoting the concept and idea of a Balkan union or Balkan (con)federation from 1918 until 1933. It emphasizes the fact that the idea of a Balkan federation was very often associated with a broad multilateral cooperation and peace consolidation and perceived as a sort of antipode to irredentist and ethnocentric ideas in the Balkans. Additionally, the paper examines the ideas of political organizations promoting the Balkan unity, especially of their most prominent representatives: Aleksandar Stamboliyski, Boris Sarafov, Anastas Kocarev, Alexandros Papanastasiou and others. In accordance with these, the paper outlines the activities of the Balkan Committee and Balkan Communist Federation, as a part of the Comintern. The aim of the paper is to explain the political dichotomy among the political left in the Balkans, and its indecisive ideological overextension between the call for resolving the national question and the need for supranational association at the forefront of internationalism, in addition to its other various inconsistencies.     WORLD WETLNDS DAY REPORT BULGARIA 2013 Prepared by: Neli Arabadzhieva: NGO CEPA, Green Balkans NGO The World Wetlands Day Was Celebrated by Numerous Events in Bulgaria This year the original Ramsar poster for the World Wetlands Day was translated into Bulgarian language and was issued by Green Balkans NGO . The posters were delivered to the Ministry of Environment and Water(MoEW) and from there were disseminated to the regional inspectorates of the Ministry and other NGOs, which intended to celebrate the date. Green Balkans NGO disseminated the posters to the Directorates of the Bulgarian Nature Parks, which are not part of the system of the environmental ministry, but are also important stakeholders. Numerous were the events throughout Bulgaria by which the World Wetlands Day was celebrated in 2013. In Plovdiv, Bulgaria, the celebrations started even on the 1 st of February. The Bulgarian NGO CEPA focal point Neli Arabadzhieva (Green Balkans NGO) participated in the organized by East Aegean Sea River Basin Directorate educational event with children from three schools. The event was opened by the Director of the Directorate – Mrs. Atanaska Tuntova and the Bulgarian coordinator for the Ramsar Convention - Mrs. Aylin Hasan from the Ministry of Environment and Water . The children were presented with several interesting interactive lessons for the importance of wetlands and the biodiversity they shelter. The children also participated in many interesting games related to wetlands and received awards provided by the Ministry of Environment and Waters. In the evening of the 1 st of February volunteers and friends of Green Balkans NGO, experts from the MoEW and the East Aegean Sea River Basin Directorate, vegans, environmentalists and artists gathered in the organized by Green Balkans NGO eco-artistic workshop dedicated to the wetlands.

Нека България да благодари на високия такт и на политическата мъдрост на циганите, че не повдигнаха своя въпрос, дорде тра- еше морската демонстрация, защото в този случай щяхме да видим международна ескадра пред Варна и Бургас. CEU eTD Collection i Abstract This thesis is an examination of factional struggles in the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (KPJ) during the Great Purge, from 1936 until 1940. An understanding of this conflict is crucial for completing the picture of the evolution of the KPJ in the interwar period, and its relationship to the Communist International, as well as for reevaluating the roots of the Tito-Stalin Split. The research sheds new light on the process of appointing a general secretary in the midst of the Great Purge, whilst also offering an alternative understanding of the relations between the Comintern and its constituent parties. In spite of the frequently repeated assumption that the KPJ was an insignificant satellite of the Comintern, completely subjected to the decisions of its Executive Committee, the argument of this work is that the Yugoslav communists still enjoyed a large degree of autonomy.

    Forschungen 1 1 Augusta Dimou Diverging Paths to Modernity: Socialism as an Intellectual Movement in the Nineteenth Century. A Comparative Approach Introduction Soeialist theorywas born in the Western eontext both as a result of and as areaction to the ex­ igencies of the Industrial Revolution and the maturation of the capitalistic process. It re­ flected and wished to address changes in the social, economic and political structure of the Western part of the old continent, envisioning their radical transformation. Socialism, an offspring of the legacy of the Enlightenment, followed up on the inadequacies ofliberal poli­ ties and questioned anew a whole set ofissues like the relationship between man and society, rhe creation and distribution of wealth, the configuration between capital and labour, the ex­ tension of political and social rights. Socialist theory as the most incisive answer to the cbal­ lenges of the modern age was soon transported to other parts of the world, to societies on the verge of modernity, characterized by very dissimilar traditions and social structures than the initial Western matrix.     Contradictions A Journal for Critical Thought Volume 3 number 2 (2019) AUTONOMIST MARXISM IN eASTeRN eUROPe Some Problems of Translation Nikolay Karkov Abstract: This text is a reflection on the production and reception of the first-of-its-kind anthology of autonomist Marxist texts in Bulgaria, published in 2013. After a brief exami- nation of the anthology’s content, the text focuses on four major “problems of translation” that significantly overdetermined the book’s reception and circulation: what the author calls the problems of semantics, history, politics, and ontology. The article concludes that autonomist Marxism might have a unique role to play in radical conversations in the country and identifies the “work of translation” as a key ingredient in expanding the coalitional possibilities of the left in Eastern Europe.
