Dragons Gameday RiverDogs GameDay Thursday, June 17, 2021 ⚫ Game #37 TicketReturn.com Field ⚫ Myrtle Beach, SC ⚫ 7:05 p.m. Broadcast: MiLB.TV and Riverdogs.com Charleston RiverDogs (23-13) at Myrtle Beach Pelicans (17-20) RHP Seth Johnson (2-2, 3.00) vs. LHP DJ Herz (0-1, 4.82) Tonight’s Game: The Charleston RiverDogs (affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) are back on the road this week as they head northeast to battle the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (affiliate of the Chicago Cubs). Tonight’s game is the third of six in the series. The teams met in Charleston to open the 2021 season in early May. RiverDogs-Pelicans Season Series in 2021: Overall: RiverDogs 6, Pelicans 2. At TicketReturn.com Field: RiverDogs 2, Pelicans 0. Last Time Out: The RiverDogs won a wild game 10-6 on Wednesday night in a contest that lasted 11 innings. The game entered extra frames with the score deadlocked at 6-6. Each team stranded a pair of baserunners in the tenth inning, but the RiverDogs would not miss out on a second chance to grab the lead. With a runner starting the inning on second base, Osleivis Basabe reached on an infield single and Garrett Hiott was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A wild pitch from Bailey Reid gave the RiverDogs the lead and back-to-back walks worked by Low-A East Standings Johan Lopez and Heriberto Hernandez forced in a second run. Curtis Mead stretched the margin to four with a two-run single to right that made it 10-6. Audry Lugo worked a scoreless North Division W-L GB inning in the bottom half to close out the game. The RiverDogs overcame deficits of 4-1, 5- Delmarva 23-13 -- 2 and 6-5 after the fifth inning. Both Lopez and Mead finished the night with three hits, a Salem 21-17 3.0 double, a home runs and three runs batted in. Lynchburg 19-17 4.0 Cole Blooded: Right-hander Cole Wilcox lowered his earned run average to 1.46 with a 5.0 Fredericksburg 12-26 12.0 inning performance in which he failed to allow an earned run. The right-hander out of Georgia Central Division W-L GB has held the opposition without an earned run in five of his eight starts this season in his first Carolina 22-15 -- professional campaign. Wilcox has registered six or more strikeouts in three straight games. Down East 22-15 -- Several Streaks: Four RiverDogs hitters enter tonight’s game with an active hitting streak Fayetteville 15-22 7.0 of at least seven games. Those players are Curtis Mead (10), Nick Schnell (9), Brett Wisely Kannapolis 9-28 13.0 (8) and Diego Infante (8). Mead’s current 10-game streak is the longest of the season for a RiverDogs player. South Division W-L GB Charleston 23-13 -- G’Days Mate: Australian Curtis Mead has been a problem for opposing pitching staffs all Columbia 20-15 2.5 season. After a quiet opening week, the third baseman has registered a hit in 23 of the last Augusta 18-20 6.0 25 games he has played in. Mead is batting .375 over that same span. He has hit a home run in back-to-back games and finished a triple shy of the cycle in both games against the Myrtle Beach 17-20 6.5 Pelicans. A Whole Lot of Nothing: The RiverDogs 7-0 win over Columbia last Friday night was their sixth shutout win of the season. The RiverDogs are tied with the Durham Bulls, Bowie Baysox, Fort Myers Mighty Mussels, Hudson Valley Renegades and Wilmington Blue Rocks. In the Low-A East, no other team has more than three. Strikeout City: The RiverDogs pitching staff leads the Low-A East with an average of 11.6 strikeouts per game. Starting pitchers John Doxakis (3) and Taj Bradley (T-8) each rank in the top ten of the Low-A East in strikeouts. Six pitchers combined to strike out 16 Myrtle Beach hitters while issuing just one walk, an intentional pass issued in the 10th inning. Roster Refresh: The RiverDogs saw four of their most impactful players receive promotions to High-A Bowling Green on Tuesday. Starter John Doxakis and relievers Colby White and Trevor Brigden, as well as outfielder Hill Alexander received the promotion as the RiverDogs activated Brayden Theriot from the injured list and added Matthew Peguero, Audry Lugo and Garrett Hiott from extended spring training. Doxakis was the Low-A East and Tampa Bay Rays Minor League Pitcher of the Month for May. White did not allow an earned run while in Charleston and struck out 36 of the 60 batters he faced this year. Brigden, who had pitched once for the RiverDogs since returning from a stint with Team Canada, also racked up strikeouts in bunches. He had recorded 25 strikeouts in 11.0 innings while limiting the opposition to a .154 batting average. Alexander was hot over the week before his promotion, hitting .346 with 12 RBI and 8 runs scored over his last 9 games. Prized Pups: The RiverDogs roster contains seven members of MLB Pipeline’s Top 30 Rays prospects. The highest ranked of that group is starting pitcher Cole Wilcox who came in at #9. Outfielder/catcher Heriberto Hernandez is the most highly regarded position player at #13. The rest of the list is filled out by starting pitchers Seth Johnson (#15) and Taj Bradley (#21), shortstops Osleivis Basabe (#24) and Alika Williams (#25) and outfielder Nick Schnell (#30). • Minor League Baseball and Its Clubs Embodied the Mission of Milb
2019 MiLBTM COMMUNITY REPORT LETTER FROM PAT O’CONNER LETTER FROM PAT Dear Friends and Colleagues, Thank you for your efforts in making 2019 another successful philanthropic year for Minor League Baseball, our 160 teams and MiLB Charities. As we prepare for the 2020 season, we have many accomplishments from last season to celebrate. None of our efforts would be possible without the great work of our teams, continued dedication from staff at the national office and the support of our millions of fans nationwide. For a fifth straight year, all 160 clubs reported their charitable giving and contributions, allowing us to accurately assess our collective efforts. It gives me great pleasure to say that in 2019, MiLB Charities donated nearly $50 million in cash and gifts in kind from our teams, leagues and partners — once again setting a new record-high total. In addition, MiLB and its teams nearly doubled our volunteer efforts from 2018, giving more than 26,000 hours in service of our communities. This report highlights MiLB Charities’ many programs and initiatives, including the MiLB CommUNITY Initiative presented by Allegiant Air, the Stars & Stripes Caps Program with New Era Cap Company, the Derrick Hall Pro-State Foundation Father’s Day Initiative, Ed Randall’s Fans For the Cure, the Joe Torre Safe At Home Domestic Violence Awareness Initiative, and the “Cover Your Bases” Sun Safety Initiative with the American Cancer Society. These are just a few of the ways our teams and partners are working together to make positive and lasting impacts in our MiLB communities.
