Last Time Out: The RiverDogs won a wild game 10-6 on Wednesday night in a contest that lasted 11 innings. The game entered extra frames with the score deadlocked at 6-6. Each team stranded a pair of baserunners in the tenth inning, but the RiverDogs would not miss out on a second chance to grab the lead. With a runner starting the inning on second base, Osleivis Basabe reached on an infield single and Garrett Hiott was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A wild pitch from Bailey Reid gave the RiverDogs the lead and back-to-back walks worked by Low-A East Standings Johan Lopez and Heriberto Hernandez forced in a second . Curtis Mead stretched the margin to four with a two-run single to right that made it 10-6. Audry Lugo worked a scoreless North Division W-L GB inning in the bottom half to close out the game. The RiverDogs overcame deficits of 4-1, 5- Delmarva 23-13 -- 2 and 6-5 after the fifth inning. Cole Blooded: Right-hander lowered his to 1.46 with a 5.0 Fredericksburg 12-26 12.0 inning performance in which he failed to allow an earned run. The right-hander out of Georgia Central Division W-L GB has held the opposition without an earned run in five of his eight starts this season in his first Carolina 22-15 -- professional campaign. Wilcox has registered six or more in three straight games. Strikeout City: The RiverDogs pitching staff leads the Low-A East with an average of 11.6 strikeouts per game. Starting pitchers John Doxakis (3) and Taj Bradley (T-8) each rank in the top ten of the Low-A East in strikeouts. Six pitchers combined to strike out 16 Myrtle Beach hitters while issuing just one walk, an intentional pass issued in the 10th inning.

Roster Refresh: The RiverDogs saw four of their most impactful players receive promotions to High-A Bowling Green on Tuesday. Starter John Doxakis and relievers Colby White and Trevor Brigden, as well as outfielder Hill Alexander received the promotion as the RiverDogs activated Brayden Theriot from the injured list and added Matthew Peguero, Audry Lugo and Garrett Hiott from extended . Doxakis was the Low-A East and Tampa Bay Rays Minor League Pitcher of the Month for May. White did not allow an earned run while in Charleston and struck out 36 of the 60 batters he faced this year. Brigden, who had pitched once for the RiverDogs since returning from a stint with Team Canada, also racked up strikeouts in bunches. He had recorded 25 strikeouts in 11.0 innings while limiting the opposition to a .154 batting average. Alexander was hot over the week before his promotion, hitting .346 with 12 RBI and 8 runs scored over his last 9 games.

RIVERDOGS FIELD STAFF

Manager: Blake Butera Butera is in his first season as the of the RiverDogs after two seasons at the helm in Hudson Valley with the Rays former short-season affiliate. He led the Renegades to a postseason berth in both seasons, including a league-most 45 wins in 2018 and a share of the league’s best record in 2019. Butera coached with the Leones del Escogido in the Dominican Winter League following the cancellation of the 2020 minor league season. At the time he received the managerial job in Hudson Valley, Butera was the youngest manager (25) in all of . The native of Metairie, Louisiana was drafted by the Rays in the 35th round of the 2015 Amateur Draft out of and appeared in 80 minor league games over two seasons. At Boston College, he was voted team captain his senior year and finished his career as the Eagles’ all-time leader in walks (112) and at-bats (774). His father, Barry, reached Triple-A with the Red Sox and his brother, Barry, spent two seasons in the Astros minor league system after being selected out of Boston College in the 2009 Amateur Draft.

Pitching Coach: R.C. Lichtenstein Lichtenstein begins his first year as the pitching coach for the RiverDogs and his 17th year in the Rays organization. Lichtenstein has served as pitching coach at several stops in the Rays farm system including Southwest Michigan (2005-06), Vero Beach (2007- 08), Bowling Green (2009-11) and Double-A Montgomery (2012-19). Throughout his career in baseball, the 52-year old has also coached in the Milwaukee Brewers organization and managed two independent squads.

Hitting Coach: Wuarnner Rincones Rincones enters his first season with the RiverDogs after spending the 2019 season in the same role with the Princeton Rays. In total, he has spent six years as Princeton’s hitting coach and four seasons with the GCL Rays. In his playing days, Rincones, spent two years (1994-95) in the farm system of the , compiling a .278 batting average over 129 career games.

Coach: Sean Smedley Smedley enters his first season on the RiverDogs staff after serving as an assistant for the Short-Season Hudson Valley Renegades in 2017 and 2018. He received his first opportunity post-playing career with the Rays as the video coordinator of the Princeton Rays in 2016 before transitioning to the coaching staff in 2017. He was slated to be the manager at Princeton before the 2020 season was canceled. As a player, Smedley was signed by Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent in 2013 out of Texas A&M International. He played parts of three seasons in the Rays minor league system, reaching Low-A Bowling Green in 2014-15.

Athletic Trainer: Tsutomo Kamiya Kimaya enters his first season as the athletic trainer for the RiverDogs after holding the same role for two seasons with the short- season Hudson Valley Renegades. Kamiya was slated to rejoin Hudson Valley in 2020 before the season was canceled.

Strength Coach: James McCallie McCallie enters his first season as the strength and conditioning coach for Charleston and his eighth with the Rays organization. He spent 2017-19 in the same role with the Low-A . McCallie has also served as strength and conditioning coach for the GCL Rays and Port Charlotte. He graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a B.S. in Exercise Science. He holds his CSCS and RSCC through the National Strength and Conditioning Association as well as his USAW Level 1 through USA Weightlifting.
