FSLT Season 2012 Honors the Life of Volunteer, Patron, and Friend JAMES ROGERS DIRECTOR’S LETTER Like so many other people around the world, I am inexplicably drawn to and fascinated by the fate of the RMS Titanic, and the tragedy of her maiden voyage. I was ensnared by a Reader’s Digest article I read as a boy, and since that point, have read and watched every single thing available on the subject. In 1997, two major things happened to feed this fascination: 1912 – 2012 the release of James Cameron’s blockbuster movie, and the premier of in this the centennial year of the great ship’s maiden and disastrous voyage the Tony-award winning Broadway musical. It was a Titanic fanatic’s we at the FSLT are proud to present this grand production… dream! I didn’t know of the musical’s existence until Rosie O’Donnell had the cast perform the opening number on her show, and from that Gala Opening Night ~ Thursday, 26 July 2012 (at 8pm) point onward, I have not been without the soundtrack at the ready, Evening Performances ~ 27, 28, & 31 July / 1, 2, 3, & 4 August whether in a car CD player or my iPod. Matinee Performance ~ 29 July 2012 (at 2:30pm) So many folks have wondered aloud to me how such a story of epic proportions can be told on our stage; believe me, in my enthusiasm to do this show I have often asked myself the same question! But the answer is that ultimately the show is not about fantastic recreations of a ship; it is about the story, the people who lived and died, and the indescribably beautiful music created to tell the tale. Arrogance, humility, desire, love and fathomless loss – those stories can be conveyed with talented and passionate actors and singers, regardless of stage square footage. ~ GEORGE MANN FSLT Season 2012 honors the life of special thanks to volunteer, patron, and friend COFFEE AND A GOOD BOOK JAMES ROGERS THIRD CLASS PASSENGERS CAST LIST Jim Farrell: NATHAN STOCKEMER Designer & Builder of the great ship RMS Titanic – Thomas Andrews Young Lass: CAITLIN MATHEWS ANTHONY YATES Kate McGowan: AMANDA ELKINS Owner of the ship “White Star Line” – J. THE REST OF THE STORY The Olympic, Titanic's sister ship, received a distress signal from the stricken vessel on April 14, 1912, at 11 PM New York time. Among other things, Titanic's wireless operator told the Olympic: "We have struck an ice berg." The ship's location, at that moment, was reported as "41.46 N 50 14 W." Image of Marconigram online, courtesy National Museums Northern Ireland. Archibald Gracie had gone to bed early that night. He planned to work out in the gym first thing in the morning. He testified: I was awakened in my stateroom at 12 o’clock. The time, 12 o’clock, was noted on my watch, which was on my dresser, which I looked at promptly when I got up. At the same time, almost instantly, I heard the blowing off of steam, and the ship’s machinery seemed to stop. Did the Titanic keep steaming ahead - resuming her course - after she struck the iceberg? Did she stop and start again? Does that explain why there was adifference of 13 nautical miles from her first "CQD" (often, but wrongly, referred to as "Come quick danger") and her finalresting place? At least one author, relying on the hearing transcripts and thirty years of research, believes so.
