Любовь Сергеевна Попова – один наиболее «искрометных» персонажей в мире советской живописи таких направлений начала ХХ в., как: кубизм, кубофутуризм, конструктивизм и супрематизм. Она также знаменита своим инновационным дизайном, разработкой текстильных декоров «в движении», созданием уникальных театральных декораций и проектированием. Л. Попова родилась 24 апреля 1889 г. в г. Иваново (Московская губерния, Российская Империя), в богатой семье. Ее отец, Сергей М. Попов - процветающий торговец тканями и страстный меценат; мать, Любовь В. Зубова происходила из знатного дворянского рода. Один из братьев художницы, Павел, стал известным философом и хранителем творческого наследия сестры. Получившая блестящее образование, Л. Tra il 1909 e 1913 la sua formazione fu movimentata: Kiev, Pskov, Novgorod, S. Pietroburgo e Parigi (presso l’Académie de la Palette); lavorò in un famoso studio di Mosca conosciuto come “Bašnya” (“La Torre”) con Ivan Aksenov e Vladimir Tatlin. Lyubov’ Sergeyevna Popova is one of the most “bubbly” personalities of Soviet art, and a leading figure of the different movements of Russian avant-gardism during the first 1900s: Cubism, Cubo-Futurism, Constructivism, and Suprematism. She was known for her innovative style, the elaboration of textiles with “moving” patterns, theatrical scenery, and design projects. Born April 29, 1889 in the city of Ivanovo (Governorate of Moscow, Russian Empire), from the wealthy family of Sergei M. Popov, a highly successful textile merchant and active patron of the arts, and Liubov’ V. Zubova, a member of a very cultured family. One of her brothers, Pavel, became a philosopher and was the custodian of his sister’s artistic heritage. Brilliantly educated, Popova grew with a strong interest for art, and travelled for a long time to research and learn from different painting styles. She was deeply interested in ancient Russian icons, Giotto’s paintings, and the works of Italian painters from the 15th and 16th centuries. Despite her important social provenance, Popova had a radical and revolutionary spirit, both in art and in political preferences, and she conquered her space in the artistic field in a time when few women artists were respected by art institutions. Between 1909 and 1913, her training was marked by many travels: Kiev, Pskov, Novgorod, Saint Petersburg, and Paris (at the Académie de la Palette); she worked at a famous study in Moscow, known as “Bašnya” (“The Tower”), with Ivan Aksenov and Vladimir Tatlin. In the early 1920s, Popova expressed her creativity through Constructivism. During this time, she dedicated herself to applied arts, and worked with textile designs, billboards and book covers, and even explored scenography.
