Race in Hollywood: Quantifying the Effect of Race on Movie Performance Kaden Lee Brown University 20 December 2014 Abstract I. Introduction This study investigates the effect of a movie’s racial The underrepresentation of minorities in Hollywood composition on three aspects of its performance: ticket films has long been an issue of social discussion and sales, critical reception, and audience satisfaction. Profesor Soedarto, Tembalang 50269 Semarang, Jawa Tengah ABSTRAK Novel merupakan suatu bentukaryasastra yang berbentuk prosa yang memiliki unsure intrinsik dan ekstrinsik yang banyak digemari orang.Novel percintaan merupakan novel yang paling banyak digemari oleh pembaca terutama dikalangan remaja.Nicholas Sparks menulis sebuah novel yang berjudul Message in a Bottle yang dikisahkan dari sudut pandang seorang wanita yang menemukan sebuah pesan didalam botol. Novel ini menunjukkan adanya rasa penasarandanperjuangancinta seseorang untuk mendapatkan cintanya tersebut.Dengan adanyabook review ini, penulis menganjurkan untuk membaca novel tersebut. Karena melalui bacaan dari novel ini mempunyai segala factor untuk mendapatkan pesan yang disampaikan oleh Nicholas Sparks tersampaikan. Ceritanya yang sangat menyentuh sekali dengan bernuansa percintaan, namun tetap menghadirkan sebuah pesan moral dan perjuangan yang harus dicapai. Novel isa work of fiction, it is a story drawn out of the writer's imagination. Message in a bottle is a famous novel that has one of the international best-selling based on famous author, Nicholas Sparks. The writer believes that this is a great novel to be read. This novel is very interesting to read for young people, because the storyline is good and very touching. Indeed, the story in the Message in a Bottle mostly about sad romance, but behind the story implied some motivation for people to stay strong and continue living no matter how hard life is. -

CARLOS DIEGUES, ENTRE O CPC E O CINEMA NOVO: UMA REFLEXÃO SOBRE A FUNÇÃO DO ARTISTA NO INÍCIO DA DÉCADA DE 1960 Mariana Barbedo1 Resumo: O artigo traz à baila a participação artística e política do diretor de cinema Carlos Diegues em dois movimentos culturais caros à vida cultural brasileira: o Centro Popular de Cultura (CPC) e o Cinema Novo. Ambos são bastante emblemáticos da arte engajada do início da década de 1960 e permitem o aprofundamento do debate acerca da função social do artista, bem como das lutas sociais que antecederam o golpe militar. Assim, ao abordar a trajetória do diretor Carlos Diegues e o seu papel militante nesse contexto, buscamos compreender e contribuir com a produção historiográfica acerca da história recente do Brasil. Palavras-chave: Carlos Diegues; cinema; Modernização brasileira; CPC; Cinema Novo Abstract: The article brings up the artistic and political participation of film director Carlos Diegues in two important cultural movements for Brazilian cultural life: Popular Center Culture (CPC) and New Cinema. Both are so much emblematic from engaged art in early 1960s and allowing a deeper debate about the social role of artist and social struggles that preceded the military coup. Thus, in addressing his career of the director Carlos Diegues and his militant role in this context, we seek understand and contribute to historical production about the recent history of Brazil.
