    Rundbrief November 2006 Seite 6 Te Mire Vaka (The celebration of canoe) One of the most popular events in the Cook Islands annual calendar was the Constitution Week. The events occur every year from about 29 July and ends about 5 August to commemorate Self-governing status of the Cook Islands people from New Zealand. Coinciding with the Constitution day held on the 4th August is what is known in the Cook Islands as “Te Maeva Nui” celebrations. The long week events show case the Polynesian dances, songs and cultural events with prices to be won by every district of Rarotonga and teams from the outlaying areas of the Cook Islands group. In 2006, a new activity was added by Ministry of Cultural Development to the cele- bration in a bid to revive the traditional methods of canoe carving. All the 13 islands participated in the carving of fishing canoes from logs, towed from the mountain. The event was a success with the official launching at the Avarua wharf where groups of performers from Aotearoa (New Zea- land) and traditional Maori chants can be held from the team leaders of the carvers. The picture enclosed is indicative of the type of activities performed by the carvers during the week to derive at canoes that can float at sea. Georg Erdmann, IAEE’s Vice President for Publications, has led the efforts that have resulted in these and other behind-the-scene changes in our quarterly bulletin to members. Not only will the new design allow you to consult and download individual articles more easily, we are also developing tools that will allow you to search the contents of past issues (beginning with the Winter 2007 publication). In addition, we are moving ahead with plans to structure each issue around specific themes: short articles will be solicited from members with expertise in each of the identified areas, with a view of providing these experts with a plat- form to inform and communicate with the entire membership. In this issue (and the next one), for example, many of the contributed articles deal with the geopolitics of energy and energy policy matters in general. Auch der Rundbrief weißt eine Neuerung auf. Wie versprochen hat sich die Infostelle einige Gedanken über die Neugestaltung der regelmäßig erscheinenden Medien gemacht. Leider ist es aus finanziellen Gründen nicht möglich, den Rundbrief in ein „Hochglanzmagazin“ zu verwandeln. Aber wir sind weiter dabei, der Leserin/dem Leser ein ansprechendes Design und eine verbesserte Übersicht über die Beiträge des Rundbriefs zu geben. Daher beinhaltet der Rundbrief ab dieser Ausgabe ein Inhaltsverzeichnis. Inhaltlich hat sich am Rundbrief nichts geändert. Die Rubriken wurden beibehalten, variieren in ihrer Erscheinung jedoch gemäß Aktualität und Angebot. Dabei sei nochmals darauf hingewiesen, dass die Redaktion des Rundbriefes zwar stets nach interessanten Beiträgen für den Rundbrief sucht und Autoren kontaktiert, aber es prinzipiell natürlich jedem Leser – insbesondere den Mit- gliedern des Pazifik-Netzwerks – freisteht, Artikel für das Medium einzureichen. Nummer 37 Februar 2007 ��������������������� �������������������� Einleitung Liebe DGV-Mitglieder, das Thema der diesjährigen DGV-Tagung ist ein wenig reflexiver oder reflektierender – man ist versucht zu sagen: besinnlicher – als das der Tagung von 2005. Damals stand die ethnographische For- schung zu Konflikten in aller Welt im Mittelpunkt. Das diesjährige Thema klingt zwar auch etwas martialisch („Streitfragen ...”), lädt aber doch eher zur Methodenreflexion und zur Bestimmung des eigenen epistemologischen und theoretischen Standortes ein. Auch persönlich ist mir besinnlich zu Mute (wehmütig wäre ein we- nig übertrieben), wie des Öfteren vor einem Abschied. Meine Zeit als DGV-Vorsitzender endet nun definitiv mit dem Ende der zwei- ten Amtszeit. Ich möchte nicht als der Kim Il-sung der deutschen Ethnologie in die Annalen eingehen (auch studiert keiner meiner Söhne Ethnologie, so dass es mir unmöglich ist, einen Kim Jong- il als Amtsnachfolger heranzuziehen). Obwohl mir der DGV-Vorsitz Spaß macht, hätte ich ihn gerne schon 2005 weitergegeben. Doch spätestens jetzt hätte ich eher mit mehreren Kandidaten für meine Nachfolge gerechnet als mit gar keinem. Letzteres ist aber leider der Fall. Die deutsche Professorenschaft kultiviert ihren Habitus. Sie trägt Be- denken und lässt sich bitten. Über längere Zeiträume gibt es keinen Kandidaten und gibt es dann plötzlich zwei, treten beide zugunsten des jeweils anderen zurück. Es ist gut für einen Standort der Ethnologie, den DGV-Vorsitz und damit die Ausrichtung der nächsten Tagung zu übernehmen. Man kann beim Rahmenthema und bei der Organisation der Plena und Arbeitsgruppen eigene Interessen einbringen und dadurch die DGV- Tagung in gewissem Maße zum Forum und Ort der Vernetzung für eigene Interessen machen.

This EAD programme could involve the drilling of up to three exploration wells and seven appraisal wells. The duration of the consent is until the end of 2030. This application should be declined because the risks are unknown, the effect on ocean acidification are unknown, the location is unknown, the platform is unknown, the vulnerable species are unknown, the management and mitigation methods are unknown and the application has failed to account for economic costs associated with the proposed activity. GENERAL COMMENT ON SCOPE OF THE CONSULTATION We have strong objections to the frame within which this consultation is taking place. Changes to the EEZ/CS Act in 2013 and 2014 have made it impossible for the public to express their legitimate concerns about climate change, oil spills and other harmful impacts of exploratory offshore drilling, which are deliberately excluded from this process.

Nummer 36 Mai 2006 ��������������������� �������������������� Einleitung So wie Konflikte eskalieren, indem eine kleine Gemeinheit mit ei- ner anderen beantwortet wird und diese wiederum mit einer etwas größeren, gibt es offenbar auch eine Eskalation im Bereich des Wün- schenswerten. Man sieht wie sich jemand anstrengt, eilt zu Hilfe, ein dritter sieht: da passiert etwas, einer vierter will nichts verpassen... Durch allerlei erfreuliche Wechselwirkungen ist die DGV genesen und zu ungeahnten Kräften erwacht. Der Umfang dieser Broschüre spricht für sich. Hier werden Debatten geführt über Fächer und die Dynamik ihrer Differenzierung und Integration (Völkerkunde und Volkskunde unter ihren verschiedenen Bezeichnungen) und The- men kommender Debatten, wie die über empirische Forschung und ethnologische Theoriebildung, die auf der nächsten DGV-Tagung im Mittelpunkt stehen soll, werden vorgeschlagen und erprobt. Zahl- reiche Gliederungen der DGV und ethnologische Einrichtungen aus sämtlichen deutschsprachigen Ländern berichten über ihre Aktivi- täten. Was hat diese Eskalation ausgelöst? In der vergangenen Vorstands- periode haben Jacqueline Knörr und Kathrin Föllner mit Ralph Or- lowski in der Geschäftsstelle die Mitgliederdatei und die Finanzen in Ordnung gebracht und Bettina Mann hat Sorge getragen, daß die DGV-Mitteilungen wieder erscheinen. Jetzt haben sich ein neuer Redakteur, Thomas Kirsch, ein neuer Referent für Öffentlichkeitsar- beit, Peter Finke, ein neuer RG/AG Koordinator, Bertram Turner mit der tatkräftigen Unterstützung von Martin Grimm in der Geschäfts- stelle ins Zeug gelegt. Die Mitglieder sehen, daß etwas passiert, die Institute beantworten Anfragen, schicken Berichte... Aktivität wird durch Aktivität beantwortet und auf einmal scheint es ringsum wie- der mehr Leben zu geben. Mir bleibt nur, jedem, der an seinem Platz ein bisschen gedreht und ein bisschen geschoben hat, und so dazu beigetragen hat, die DGV wieder in Schwung zu bringen, herzlich für seinen Einsatz zu dan- ken.
