Those with long memories will remember holding our annual meeting here in 2004 and I was keen to bring the meeting back to the South West once again. We have a varied and exciting programme and, for the fi rst time, have a parallel stream which will enable a whole session of interventional topics to be covered to satisfy the interventionally minded. Many thanks to Professor Laasch for organizing this session. Building on the success of the scientifi c session introduced last year at the joint meeting in Liverpool, we have invited oral presentations of the best original scientifi c work submitted to compete for the new ‘Clive Bartram’ prize. In addition, there are some interesting poster displays around the conference venue to keep you occupied during the breaks. I am thrilled that Dr Andrea Phillips has agreed to give the 2020 Richard Farrow Memorial Lecture. It is timely that we are going to hear about what artifi cial intelligence has to off er us as we enter a new era in diagnostic imaging. Thank you to all our sponsors for their valued support, without which this meeting would not be possible. Please do try and make some time to visit the stands during the breaks. Dr Huw Roach has worked closely with Nikki Lee from Creative Conferences and the whole of the BSGAR committee to make this a truly memorable event, and I would like to thank Huw, Nikki and the rest of the Creative Conference Team for their fantastic input to this meeting. Finally, I would like to thank the indispensible Liz Jones and all the BSGAR committee for their enterprise, hard work, enthusiasm and for their support over the past year. We have seen some really exciting developments in our society over the past two years and know that more will follow in the capable hands of Stuart Taylor. Have a great meeting! Dr Andy Lowe WELCOME FROM THE BSGAR MEETING PRESIDENT A very warm welcome to the West Country and to the beautiful, historic city of Bath, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a great honour for me to be the Local President for the BSGAR 2020 Annual Meeting. It has been a privilege to work alongside the BSGAR Committee, Liz and also Nikki and the Creative Conferences team in preparing this year’s conference. On behalf of BSGAR, I would like to thank all of our speakers for their participation in this year’s programme, all of the delegates who submitted abstracts or cases and all of the sponsors, who are generously supporting the meeting. I am delighted that we are based this year in two of Bath’s most historic venues, with our main meeting taking place in the Assembly Rooms and our Course Dinner being held in the iconic Roman Baths and Pump Room. There is also much else to enjoy around the city, particularly in terms of history, architecture, culture, dining and shopping - all within easy walking distance. Times remain challenging in many Radiology departments around the country and so I hope that as well as the educational benefi ts of the meeting, there will also be plenty of opportunity to unwind, catch up with friends and enjoy the city. Once again, I extend a warm welcome and hope you have a stimulating and enjoyable meeting. Despite my slow progress, they have supported my efforts and believed in my capacities to carry out this comparative study. I hope that, despite its defects, it will prove worthy of their trust. I would like to thank Louella Vaughan for providing an interesting eighteenth-century perspective on English medical education, sharing her ideas on my subject and removing some of my misconceptions. Similarly, I thank Christelle Rabier for her support and for our discussions regarding her forthcoming thesis on surgery in England and France. My thanks naturally go to the staff of the various establishments in which my research has taken me, and particularly to the librarians at the Wellcome Library for the History and Understanding of Medicine in London, the librarians in the History of Science Room at the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris, and to Bernadette Molitor and Henry Ferreira-Lopes at the Bibliothèque Inter-Universitaire de Médecine in Paris. I am grateful to Patricia Gillet from the Association d’entraide des Anciens élèves de l’École des Chartes for the financial support that the Association has given me and to Wes Cordeau at Texas Supreme Mortgage, Inc. for the scholarship that his company awarded me.

Conduct a systematic literature review to identify design parameters that are relevant for housing and influence occupants’ UX 2.
