We warmly welcome all distinguished guests to the Second International Conference of Microfluidics, Nanofluidics and Lab-on-a-Chip (ICMFLOC) held in Beijing in June 8-10, 2018. This conference was organized by the Beijing International Center for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Beijing University of Technology.

Research on microfluidics, nanofluidics and lab-on-a-chip has advanced rapidly over the past two decades. It has become a cutting-edge subject and has great application potential in biochemistry, human health, new energy, advanced materials, and so forth. It has produced direct and significant impact on various fields in science and engineering. This conference is intended to provide a highly interactive forum to bring together scientists and engineers around the world with the aim of exchanging knowledge of the state-of-art research and development in this field, and to inspire new efforts to advance the frontier of the research.

As the conference chairs, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to all committee members, track and session chairs, and student assistants, who have contributed greatly to the success of this conference — it would not have been possible without the input of your time and effort. Founded in 2007, the Center aims to promote the development and application of mechanics in Asia and the Pacific region. The Principal activity of the Center is to organize conferences, symposia, work- www.bictam.org.cn shops and summer schools for subjects falling within the field of theoretical and applied mechanics and interdisciplinary branches that meet the needs of the countries in Asia and the Pacific, and in turn further the participation and contri- bution of the region to the global mechanics community.

Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS) was founded by Dr. Hsue-Shen Tsien in 1956, as the first national institution for mechanics research in China. It is a comprehensive and multidisplinary research center for all the fields of mechanics. Since its establishment, IMCAS has accomplished a large number of important research projects and obtained many remarkable scientific and technological achievements. The Institute has won more than 230 www.imech.ac.cn national and regional awards, including China’s Preeminent Science and Tech- nology Award, National Science and Technology Awards, as well as awards from Chinese Academy of Sciences and other ministries. With the spirit of “Engineering Science” advocated by Dr. Tsien, IMCAS is dedicated to the well-being of Chinese society and world development.

Founded in 1960, Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) is a key university under the administration of Beijing Municipal Government. In 1996, BJUT was included in National 211 Project, joining the rank of China’s 100 top univer- sities in 21st century. BJUT consists of 33 colleges and institutes, offering pro- grams in science, engineering, literature, economics, management, law, phi- losophy, education and arts. Inspired by the motto of ‘Endless Pursuit of www.bjut.edu.cn Truth as Aim, Persistent Innovation as Way’ and following the three strate- gies of ‘strengthening the university by talents, developing its own charac- teristics and opening up to the outside world’, BJUT strives to build itself into an ‘internationally recognized high-level research university with its uniqueness’ and make more contribution to the economic and social devel- opment at home and abroad.
