The group tallied 163 avian species seen and heard, a total number of 12,843 individuals from 64 locations and approximately 1100 miles traveling through the Cuban landscape. Our team successfully logged all possible endemics and future endemics, found nowhere else in the world but Cuba! We had an opportunity to deeply explore the lives of 1.95-inch world’s smallest Bee Hummingbird to American White Pelican, 9-foot wingspan and 19-pound behemoths diving into the Zapata. Cuba Bird Survey is one of the longest running surveys of its kind contributing to the science of Cuban ornithology. The diversity of avifauna and Cuba’s importance to North American ecology will be highlighted in this report. Following “About this Report” and general information about Cuba you will find a trip summary of the data we collected. All birds found in Cuba on this survey have been entered into eBird, a real-time, online checklist program launched in 2002 by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society, which provides rich data sources for basic information on bird abundance and distribution at a variety of spatial and temporal scales.
