New "Walk With You" single currently climbing the AC charts!

Edwin McCain kicks off the release of THE BEST OF EDWIN McCAIN with an appearance on the CBS Early Show on March 27th, performing his new single, "Walk With You." Produced by Grammy-winner Don Was (Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan), the track is already gearing up to be as big a smash as his enduring megahits "I'll Be" and "I Could Not Ask For More." All three songs are included in THE BEST OF EDWIN McCAIN along with "Some Kind of Wonderful" from his acclaimed 2008 covers album, Nobody's Fault But Mine (both released on Saguaro Road Records).

The 16-track career retrospective also includes the hard-to-find Diane Warren-penned song "I Don't Know How I Got by," that Edwin recorded in 2000 for the soundtrack of the movie The Family Man starring Nicolas Cage.

Brazilian legend Caetano Veloso's 41st album, Zii e Zie , released last year in South America and Europe, had already earned him a Latin Grammy for 2009 Best Singer-Songwriter album. The Times of London recently declared, "The Brazilian master remains in a league of his own. Forty years after injecting a rock beat into Brazilian pop (and earning the disapproval of the country's military rulers in the process), Veloso has returned to similar territory...longtime fans won't be disappointed." The 67 year-old Veloso conjures an air of mischief and even a little mystery starting with the title, an Italian phrase for "uncles and aunts" that he espied in a book and chose because he likes the way the simple words sound and look. Listeners may feel the same way about the music of Zii e Zie : the sheer sound of Veloso's ageless voice offers tremendous pleasure even before one delves into the translations of his at times eyebrow-raising lyrics, which range from the bluntly political to the boldly sexual, or begins to savor his playfully inventive arrangements.

Veloso, produced by Pedro Sa and son Moreno Veloso, is joined on Zii e Zie by the same youthful trio he employed on the brash and beautiful Cê , an album that upended expectations with its set of rock-oriented tracks boasting an almost punk-like immediacy. As David Byrne described Cê in Artforum, "Veloso has found a sparse, post-rock beauty in which strange yet simple rock instrumentation is juxtaposed with softly seething vocals." On Zii e Zie , Veloso reverses the equation. Here, samba is the foundation, filtered through a rock sensibility with an undercurrent of funk. Veloso himself has taken to calling this approach "trans-samba" or "trans-rock"-like "transsexual," he pointedly joked in an interview. His subject matter can still be intensely personal but he also takes a broader view of the world at large. At times he's like a camera, surveying the beaches of Rio, where he contemplates a dark-skinned girl in a bright bikini or scrutinizes with a wizened eye Rio's most exclusive hilltop neighborhood. He exposes his lust as frankly as Iggy Pop on "Tarado ni Voce"/"Horny For You" and expresses his rancor about the Bush years with equal candor on "A Base de Guantanamo."

Says London's Guardian, "The songs are intimate and surprising, with sudden bursts of electric guitar transforming the easy-going ‘Falso Leblon,' and handclaps and funk guitar lines matched against the laid-back vocals on ‘A Cor Amarela.' ARTIST & INFO Hometown: santo amaro, bahia Caetano Veloso, dubbed "one of the greatest songwriters of the century" (New York Times), is among the most influential and beloved artists to emerge from Brazil. Known there since the 1960s, Veloso has made more than 30 recordings to date and has developed a strong international following.

Born in Santo Amaro, Bahia, in 1942, Caetano Veloso began his professional musical career in 1965 in São Paulo. In his first compositions he drew on the bossa novas of João Gilberto, but rapidly began to develop his own distinctive style. Absorbing musical and aesthetic ideas from sources as diverse as The Beatles, concrete poetry, the French Dadaists, and the Brazilian modernist poets of the 1920s, Caetano, together with Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, his sister Maria Bethânia, and a number of other poets and intellectuals, founded a movement called Tropicália. By experimenting with new sounds and words, adding electric guitars to their bands, and utilizing the imagery of modern poetry, Caetano became a musical revolutionary.

This short-lived movement, founded in 1968, ended abruptly when Caetano and Gil were sent into exile and lived in London. Now universally credited with redefining what is known as Brazilian music, it laid the groundwork for a renaissance of Brazilian popular music both at home and abroad. Caetano and Gil returned to Brazil in 1972 and found that Tropicália had remained intact and their audience had continued to grow.

Although Tropicália set the tone for Caetano's career, his music has evolved greatly over the years. Incorporating elements of rock, reggae, fado, tango, samba canão, baião, and rap-with lyrics containing some of the best poetry in a musical tradition rich in verse-Caetano's music is sometimes traditional, sometimes contemporary, often hybrid. At once an astute social commentator and balladeer of highly emotive love songs, Caetano is one of the most respected poets in the Portuguese language. Indeed he is one of only a handful of artists who has resolved how to be musically modern and still undeniably Brazilian.

Veloso followed his 1999 Grammy Award-winning Nonesuch release, Livro , an album which garnered widespread critical acclaim in the US and brought with it his first-ever US tour, with a soundtrack for the Carlos Diegues film Orfeu . In spring 2001, Nonesuch released Noites do Norte (Nights of the North), a meditation on themes of race, slavery, and Brazil's quest for a national identity. Later that year came Omaggio a Federico e Giulietta, a live recording made in 1997 in Rimini in honor of two masters of Italian cinema, Federico Fellini and Giulietta Masina. The following year brought another live album, a double disc recorded in Caetano's home state, called Live in Bahia, released in conjunction with the publication, by Knopf, of Caetano's long-awaited memoir, Tropical Truth: A Story of Music and Revolution in Brazil.

In September 2003, Nonesuch released The Best of Caetano Veloso, a retrospective of Veloso's work from 1989 to 2001, including a live rendition of the haunting "Cucurrucucú Paloma," featured in Pedro Almodovar's Talk to Her. The following spring came A Foreign Sound, his first all-English set, paying tribute to 20th-century American pop composers, from Cole Porter to Kurt Cobain. And in January 2007, Veloso, backed by a young Brazilian trio, created a surprisingly brash rock sound for the album Cê, about which the Boston Globe notes, "The man's voice is as richly seductive and thoughtful as ever." His lyrics "offer intellectual and cultural queries ... suffused with yearning and ambiguous eroticism."

Along with vocals turns from such stars as Tori Amos and the B-52's Kate Pierson, Byrne works with rising indie rockers St. Vincent and My Brightest Diamond; New York chanteuses Nellie McKay and Martha Wainwright; and dance-music divas Roisin Murphy and Santigold. Byrne himself appears as the voice of imperialistic America on "American Troglodyte," a send-up that wouldn't have seemed out of places in Talking Heads' True Stories.

Byrne originally envisioned this as a musical theatre piece, to be mounted in disco and nightclub settings, reflecting the globe-trotting Marcos' taste for such velvet-roped spots as Studio 54 and Regine's. In 2006, he performed work-in-progress versions to enthusiastic audiences at New York City's Carnegie Hall and the Adelaide Festival in Australia. When more funding for a theatrical version proved elusive, While plans for a U.S. theatrical production continue to evolve, he embarked upon he has delivered this unique recording. Here Lies Love has an effervescent disco feel, redolent of Fatboy Slim's own dance-floor anthems, with warm undercurrents of the Latin rhythms that have percolated through Byrne's recent solo work. The sunny arrangements act in counterpoint to the reality of the Marcos' increasingly repressive regime, reflecting the imagined inner life of the glamour-obsessed Imelda. Explains Byrne, "For me, the darker side of the excesses are, for the most part, a matter of record. A lot of the audience is going to come with that knowledge already. What's more of a challenge is to get inside the head of the person who was behind all of that, and understand what made them tick." Byrne offers no judgment and avoids the obvious - there is no mention of Imelda's infamous shoe collection.

Many of Byrne's lyrics are, astonishingly enough, constructed from actual Imelda quotes, including the project's title, the words that Imelda, now returned to the Philippines from U.S.-assisted exile in Hawaii, would like to have inscribed on her gravestone. Byrne generously annotates each song in the CD booklet and illustrates the story with archival photos. In a detailed preface, he reveals what drew him to this subject and the bumpy route he took to launch the project and, ultimately, record this CD. The lavish booklet is indeed a page-turner, just as Here Lies Love is a wonderfully old-school album that rewards start-to-finish listening. Once again, Byrne -- beloved as musician, thinker and bicyclist-about-town -- reveals the breadth and singularity of his vision.

ARTIST & INFO Hometown: New York City Stephen Sondheim has written the music and lyrics for Bounce (2003), Passion (1994), Assassins (1991), Into the Woods (1987), Sunday in the Park with George (1984), Merrily We Roll Along (1981), Sweeney Todd (1979), Pacific Overtures (1976), The Frogs (1974), A Little Night Music (1973), Follies (1971; revised in London, 1987), Company (1970), Anyone Can Whistle (1964), A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1962), and Saturday Night (1954; first production in London, 1997; New York, 2000), as well as lyrics for West Side Story (1957), Gypsy (1959), Do I Hear a Waltz? (1965), and additional lyrics for Candide (1973). Side by Side by Sondheim (1976), Marry Me a Little (1981), You’re Gonna Love Tomorrow (1983), and Putting It Together (1992) are anthologies of his work as composer and lyricist. For films, he has composed the scores of Stavisky (1974) and Reds (1981) as well as songs for Dick Tracy (1990), for which he won an Academy Award. He also wrote songs for the television production Evening Primrose (1966), co-authored the film The Last of Sheila (1973) and the play Getting Away with Murder (1996), and provided incidental music for the plays The Girls of Summer (1956), Invitation to a March (1961), and Twigs (1971). He has won Tony Awards for Best Score for a Musical for Passion , Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd , A Little Night Music, Follies , and Company . All of these shows won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, as did Pacific Overturesand Sunday in the Park with George, the last also receiving the Pulitzer Prize for Drama (1985).

Mr. Sondheim was born in 1930 and raised in New York City. He graduated from Williams College, winning the Hutchinson Prize for Music Composition, after which he studied theory and composition with Milton Babbitt. He is on the Council of the Dramatists Guild, the national association of playwrights, composers, and lyricists, having served as its president from 1973 to 1981, and in 1983 was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In 1990, he was appointed the first Visiting Professor of Contemporary Theater at Oxford University and in 1993 was a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors.
