Despite the loss, Kalamazoo finished with yet another impressive record at 14-4 overall (9-3 in the MIAA). The standout season left Coach Hardy Fuchs' 22 year coaching record at 215-88-25. In the past eight seasons, Fuchs has directed the Hornets to a sparkling 84- 8-4league mark, including six division crowns. Fuchs was extremely pleased with the squad's play, noting that win-loss records can't be the only judge of how well a team performs. Kalamazoo's ball possession skills and offensive firepower was relatively unmatched throughout the league. All three league losses went down to the wire, with two defeats by 1-0 scores and the third, at Hope, stood 1-0 until the final seconds. Kalamazoo featured five of the league's top overall scorers, with sophomore Dana Orsucci leading the way with 16 goals and five assists (37 points). Junior Tim Streeter (12 goals, four assists, 28 points), sophomore Robin Wells (9-9-27), along with junior Greg Hartker (8-9-25) and sophomore Mike Arends (6-10-22) rounded out the high-powered unit. Freshman goalie David Fielder allowed a miniscule 19 goals in 18 games, posting seven shutouts. A strength was the Hornets' ability to play well together. "I've never seen a team as cohesive as a unit with as much talent as this year's," said Fuchs. Several players received post-season league honors for the Hornets. Orsucci and sophomore fullback Tom Anagnost each received First Team All-MIAA honors for the second year. Hartker also netted first-team all-conference honors. Kalamazoo placed three players on the all-league second team, including senior fullback Mike Haines, Arends, and midfielder Marc Churin. Fielder, Streeter and Wells earned all-league honorable mention selections. The 1993 squad should once again challenge for the MIAA crown. The Hornets lose one graduat ing senior in Haines, but will return the remainder of the team. Fuchs hopes to add three or four blue chip prospects next season to an already young and deep group, hoping to continue Kalamazoo's revolv ing door of success in men's soccer.
