Recommended Method of Wudu FIQ110 - Elements of Servitude Recommended Method of Wudu FIQ110 - Elements of Servitude ! Begin wudu by sitting on a clean and raised place to avoid any splashes and use a container of water to draw water from for the washing and wiping in the wudu.1 Make a niyyah in the heart intending to perform wudu only for Allah’s pleasure and happiness while hoping for reward for this act of worship to remove oneself from hadath asghar (state of minor ritual impurity). The same intention can be made while washing or wiping any of the limbs during wudu as well. Recite bismillah and commence the wudu. Take a handful of water in the right hand and wash both hands up to the wrists while rubbing them. Repeat this three times. Take a handful of water in the right hand then rinse the mouth with water, then use miswak to clean the teeth, then rinse the mouth two more times with new water. If one is not fasting, one should gargle during the rinse. Take a handful of water in the right hand then enter water into the nose thoroughly. Repeat this three times. If one is fasting, one should avoid sniffing the water. With the small finger of the left hand, clean the inside of the nose and blow the nose using the left hand. Take a handful of water in both hands then wash the face from the top of the forehead to the bottom of the chin, and from one ear to the other. Ensure no part of the face remains dry. If one is not in the state of ihram (for umrah or hajj) then one should perform the khilal2 of the beard. Wash the face similarly two more times. Take a handful of water in the right hand and wash the right forearm up to and including the elbows by rubbing on it such that no part remains dry. Repeat this three times for the right forearm, then repeat this three times for the left forearm. Ensure that any watches, rings, bracelets, etc. are moved about to allow for water to reach beneath them even if they are loose. Perform khilal of the fingers of both hands. Take a handful of water in the right hand, wetting both hands, beginning from where the hairline normally begins moving to the back, wipe over the entire head once, then wipe the inside portion of the ears with the index finger and behind the ears with the thumb. 1 In our times using a tap has become the norm, therefore it would be advisable to close the tap after taking a handful of water in one hand for each act of washing or wiping so one could avoid wasting large .(ﷺ) amounts of water and ultimately perform a wudu which mimics the wudu of the Prophet 2 Khilal is passing wet fingers between the beard, fingers or toes. Page !1 of !2 Recommended Method of Wudu FIQ110 - Elements of Servitude ! Wipe the back of the neck (i.e., the nape) with the back of the fingers. Do not wipe the throat. Take a handful of water in the right hand and wash the right foot up to the ankles while rubbing it with the left hand. Perform khilal of the toes (using the little finger) beginning with the little toe. Repeat this three times. Take a handful of water in the right hand and wash the left foot up to the ankles while rubbing it with the left hand. Perform khilal of the toes beginning with the big toe. Repeat this three times. Upon washing or wiping any limb, recite (in Arabic, see footnotes below) the testimony of faith, “I testify that there is none worthy of worship but Allah, who is alone and has no is Allah's Servant and Messenger”3 and once (ﷺ) partner, and I testify that Muhammad in the middle of the wudu recite the du’a, “O Allah! forgive my sins and give expansion (abundance) in my home and grant me blessings in my sustenance.”4 Upon completion of the wudu, recite the du’a, “O Allah Make me of the repenters and make me of the purified”5 and proceed to perform two rak’ahs salat of tahiyyat al-wudu (only if it is not a makruh time of prayer). If a container was used to draw water from for the wudu, drink the leftover water while standing up. 3 أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَ إِلَهَ إِلَ اللَهُ وَحْدَهُ لَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَ مُحَمَدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ 4 اللَهُمَ اغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي وَ وَسِعْ لِي فِي دَارِي وَ بَارِكْ لِي فِي رِزْقِي 5 اللَهُمَ اجْعَلْنِي من التَوَابِيَ وَ اجْعَلْنِي من الُتطَهِرِينَ Page !2 of !2.

FFiiqqhh ((LLaawwss)) Book 7 Lesson 1 Saláh Types of Wājib Salāh There are six types of wājib salāh: 1. The Five Daily Salāh. 2. Salāt al-Ayāt. 3. Salāt al-Mayyit (taught in Book 10). 4. Two Rak’ah Salāh after Wājib Tawāf of Ka’bah (taught in Book 10). 5. Compensation (qadā) salāh of a dead man that is wājib on the eldest son. 6. Salāh that becomes wājib due to an oath (nadhr, ‘ahd, qasam) or if one is paid to pray the qadā for someone deceased (as niyābah). Note: Salāt al-Jumu’ah (Friday prayer) is counted as part of the five daily prayers because it is prayed instead of Salāt adh-Dhuhr on Fridays. Mustahab (nāfila) prayers are studied in Book 9. The importance of salāh and not to take it lightly can be reviewed from Book 5 (Akhlāq Lesson 7). The Compensatory Prayer (Salāt al-Qadā) Qadā salāh is performed in compensation for a salāh that has not been performed during its proper time. It is wājib to make up all those prayers that have been missed for whatever reason, except for bāligha women who are excused from salāh at certain times of the month (which will be taught to the girls separately). Those who suffer from mental illness do not have to pray salāh. Also, a non-Muslim who becomes a Muslim does not have to pay qadā for the time before he or she became a Muslim. But if a Muslim loses his faith for a duration and then returns to Islām, he or she must make up for all the missed prayers.

FIQ111 – Fiqh of Salat Q&A Q: What is the differentiation between Mustahab and Sunnah ghair Mu’akada actions because wouldn’t ghair muakada also be included as recommended even though they are not emphasized? A: Sunnah Mu’akkadah are not emphasized although they are still in the “Sunnah” category therefore leaving them according to some fuqaha would at least be slightly disliked (makruh tanzihi). Leaving mustahabb on the other hand would not even be slightly disliked. Q: If one is in the habit of saying “Sallallahu alaiyhi wa Salam” everytime one hears Rasullullah (saw)’s name, and one says it when repeating after hearing “ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasullullah” is this considered unnecessary or inappropriate? every time one hears his (ﷺ) A: The habit of sending blessings (salat) upon the Prophet blessed name is indeed a virtuous habit and this is what every believer should normally do. Although, in the case of the adhan, we have an authentic narration in Sahih Muslim which is as follows: as saying: When you hear (ﷺ) Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As reported Allah’s Messenger‘ the Mu’adhdhin, repeat what he says, then invoke a blessing on me, for everyone who invokes a blessing on me will receive ten blessings from Allah; …. (Muslim) is reserved for until ﷺ In this hadith, the command to send blessings on the Prophet after the adhan. Therefore, one will wait until the adhan ends and then recite any salat .ﷺ such as “allahumma salli ala muhammad …” etc.) one wishes upon the Prophet) during the adhan — when ﷺ The scholars mention that reciting salat upon the Prophet the second shahadah “ashhadu anna muhammadan …” is pronounced — has not been transmitted to us nor is a practice of the ummah.

  • Introduction to Fasting Dr Khalifa Ezzat
The Islamic Cultural Centre & The London Central Mosque Introduction to Fasting Dr Khalifa Ezzat What Is Ramadan? Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic calendar and the month in which the Qur’an was revealed. Ramadan is the month of worship, the month of helping the needy through charity and the month of compulsory fasting. Fasting Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam and became obligatory on Muslims during the 2nd year after the Hijrah [migration of the Prophet from Makkah to Madinah]. Therefore, the Prophet fasted nine Ramadans in his lifetime. The command to fast was revealed in the month of Sha’ban [the month immediately preceding Ramadan]. Sighting of the Moon It is a collective duty on the Muslims to make an effort to sight the moon of Ramadan on the 28th of Sha’ban. Muslims should depend on sighting the moon based on the naked-eye or astronomic calculation. The Prophet [pbuh] himself instructed, ‘Begin the fast on the sighting of the moon and break the fast likewise, but if the sky is cloudy [on the 29th of Sha’ban], then estimate it [by completing] 30 days of Sha’ban’ [Muslim]. Muslim scholars and scholars of astronomy agreed that astronomic calculation is a science that is based on observation of the position of the sun and the moon; a scientific basis, not on Tanjīm [astrology]. Muslim scholars also agree that sighting the moon with the naked-eye is the fundamental basic criteria and there is no need for astronomic calculation if the moon is seen clearly.

COURSE NOTES All that is good and correct is from Allah (subhanahu wa-ta‘ala) alone – the compilers are solely responsible for any mistakes and errors. Divine Link – Fiqh of Salah Shaykh Yaser Birjas 2 Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim 01 | Introduction Five days before the Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) passed away, he was on his deathbed. When you are on your deathbed and talk, you will be saying the most important things in your life. These are the last moments of you life. Think about that time and imagine that you were told that you would be dying in a few days. As you talk to people, what message would you deliver to people? It would be the most important things to you. The Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) five days before he passed away was suffering from the pains of death, and he was suffering for more than fourteen days. One of the companions came and saw him (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) aching so much. He said, “Ya Rasulullah, you are suffering so much pain. Why is that?” He (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said, “I suffer double the pain any of you will suffer.” He said, “Is it because you are getting double reward?” He (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said, “I hope so.” At that time, he (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) would feel the pain and cover his face, and then when it would stop, he would uncover his face and say, “La ilaha ilAllah. Death has its agonies and pains.” He used to fall unconscious and recover and fall unconscious and recover.

The Holy Qur’an – Arabic Text, English Translation and Commentary by Ayatullah Aqa Mirza Mahdi Pooya. Tahajjud Prayers – Salat al–Layl [Namaz-e-Shab] IMPORTANCE The Tahajjud Prayer (Salat al-Layl, Namaz-e-Shab) ranks first and foremost in importance among all other optional (Sunnat) prayers. Tahajjud means to abandon sleep so as to pray Salat. The Qur’an refers to it in Surah 17:79 and says, “And (during part) of the night, abandon sleep and keep vigil to pray Salat, in addition to the regular obligatory prayer. Your Rabb (the Sustainer) may (as a reward) elevate you to the position of High Distinction, Glory and Praise.” The Prophet (s.a.w.w.) said, “I will be at “Maqam-e-Mahmuda” on the Day of Resurrection when I will seek forgiveness for the sinners from the Rabb (the Sustainer) who does what He wills.” We, as sinners, would also wish to receive intercession and are forgiven so as to be in the company of the Prophet (s.a.w.w.) on that Fearful Day.
