As such, this year’s Roland Garros represents the 113th staging of the event overall, and the 90th edition since international players were admitted (the tournament was not held during WWI and WWII). 2020 Roland Garros also marks the 53rd staging of the Open Era (which began in 1968). Of the 128 players in the singles main draw, 108 gain direct entry based on WTA Singles Rankings (for week of August 17, 2020). In addition, there are 12 qualifiers who play three rounds of qualifying matches, as well as eight wildcards.
