Keeping Up Appearances Saturday, August 2 at 8 p.m. on Vegas PBS Channel 10 he laughs continue this month as we bring the very first season of one of the most

popular Britcoms ever made. Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced “bouquet”) goes to

incredible lengths in her quest for perfection. Hers is a spick-and-span house. Her

downtrodden husband, Richard (), acts as chauffeur in their immaculately Tkept car. Even the empty milk bottles sparkle on the doorstep after their obligatory rinse in the dishwasher. She is disgraced, however, by the rest of her family who are as common as muck.

Sister Daisy (Judy Cornwell) and her husband, Onslow (Geoffrey Hughes), are out-and-out slobs.

And her elderly father is a lecherous drunk, given to cycling stark-naked down by the canal. In Mark L. Walberg this week’s episode, Daddy’s encouragement of her brother-in-law Onslow jeopardizes Hyacinth’s

Antiques Roadshow: social standing at a church function. Vintage Louisville Wednesday, July 30 at 8 p.m. on Vegas PBS Rewind Host Mark Walberg returns to a few cities that have been previous stops for the series. Now he takes a look at some of its most memorable objects, what they are worth today and how the market has changed. This program examines some of the items appraised in Louisville back in 1998. A 19th-century folk art jug, which was originally appraised at $30,000 to $50,000, has since leaped in value to an estimated $100,000 to $150,000! Tune in for more updates on items like a South Carolina Slave Badge from 1810 and James Dean’s high school yearbook. Storm sweeps over a farmstead The Dust Bowl (Part 2) on its way toward Boise City. Thursday, July 31 at 9 p.m. on Vegas PBS Channel 10 It was the worst man-made ecological disaster in American history, when the fren- zied wheat boom of the “Great Plow-Up,” followed by a decade-long drought during the 1930s, nearly swept away the breadbasket of the nation. Vivid interviews with 26 survivors of those hard times, combined with dramatic photographs and seldom-seen movie footage, bring to life stories of incredible human suffering and equally incred- ible perseverance. The documentary is also a morality tale about our relationship to the land that sustains us – a lesson we ignore at our peril. In part two this week, experience the gradual relief as the families of the plains seek new lives in California, and government conservation efforts – and a break in the drought in 1939 – eventually stabilize the soil and bring the farms back to life, but with dangers of another Dust Bowl facing future generations.

David Suchet Masterpiece Mystery! Poirot, Season 12: Dead Man’s Folly Sunday, August 3 at 9 p.m. on Vegas PBS Channel 10 David Suchet (“Henry VIII,” “The Way We Live Now”) returns in his signature role as suave Belgian super sleuth Hercule Poirot in a brand new mystery, based on the novels by Agatha Christie. Whether he’s on holiday abroad, taking a coun- tryside break or simply going about his business near his central London home, Poirot finds himself exercising his “little grey cells” by helping police investigate crimes and murders, whether they ask for his help or not. In this week’s tale, a wealthy financier and his wife stage a grand party at their new summer home. Poirot is a reluctant guest, urged to attend by his old friend Ariadne Oliver (Zoë Wanamaker), who suspects the “murder hunt” game she is preparing may turn out to be a real murder.

My Brother the Jihadist Thursday, August 21 at 10 p.m. on Vegas PBS Channel 10 hat turns an ordinary man into an extremist? In this disturbing documentary, British filmmaker Robb Leech sets out to understand why his brother has fun- damentally changed his life and beliefs. Like himself, Leech's step-brother Retired couple Richard Dart was an ordinary white middle-class boy from an English seaside Wtown and as youths, they were almost inseparable. But then Dart moved away, and the family FRONTLINE: The Retirement Gamble learned via a press story that he'd become a radical Islamist, changing his name to Salahuddin. Tuesday, August 19 at 10 p.m. The film follows Dart to demonstrations, gatherings and into conversations with like-minded on Vegas PBS Channel 10 Islamists. He begins to use the name Salahuddin al-Britani, and makes highly-critical comments Ten trillion dollars in Americans’ retire- ment savings are invested in large and and criticisms to Leech about persons and life in Britain, believing that Britain should be subject small accounts managed by banks, broker- to Sharia law. In April 2013, Dart was sentenced in the Old Bailey to six years in prison for terror- ages, mutual funds and insurance compa- ist offenses. nies. But whether your IRA or 401K will assure a safe retirement is largely a gam- ble. Using his own retirement fund as a case study, correspondent Martin Smith undertakes an investigation that has implications for every working American. Through interviews with Wall Street exec- utives at the helm of the mutual fund industry, professionals of all ages who are trying to navigate the retirement crisis, and current and former financial advisers who may or may not have their clients’ best interests at heart, he investigates the rise of the 401(k) – a product Americans buy without knowing its true cost. The pro- gram also reveals how fees, self-dealing and kickbacks bring great profits to Wall Street while imperiling the prospects of a secure future for individuals. Robb Leech and Richard Dart The Search for Josiah Henson, The Man Behind the Story of Uncle Tom’s Cabin: A Time Team America Presentation Tuesday, August 19 at 8 p.m. on Vegas PBS Channel 10 This fascinating series plunges the viewer into the grime and glory of real-life archaeology: epiphany and exhaustion, discovery and disappointment. Through the dirt, the sweat, the dust and the rain, archeologists explore the mysteries of the past through what they find buried below the ground. This week, Josiah Henson’s 1849 autobiography inspired Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin and galvanized abolitionists. But for 30 years, he was enslaved here, on what was once a 270-acre plantation run by Isaac Riley. An acre of land and an old house are all that remain. The team descend on a upscale DC suburb, digging for clues beneath the manicured lawn and peeling back layers of the old kitchen floor to tell the story of one of the most important Americans of the 19th century. Time Team America Tuesday, August 26 from 8 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Vegas PBS Channel 10 his intriguing series continues, combining technologically advanced tools and old-

fashioned elbow grease to take viewers on a journey into the earth and back in time.

At 8 p.m., The Lost Civil War Prison travels to Camp Lawton, near Milan,

Georgia, a site that housed 10,000 Union prisoners during the Civil War. The Tremains of the camp have long been lost to history. Can the team find the original site of the Masterpiece Mystery! camp? What artifacts are buried beneath the ground and what do they tell us of the hellish Breathless experiences of the prisoners? Then at 9 p.m., The Lost Pueblo Village explores the site of Sundays at 9 p.m. what is believed to have been a 1,200-year-old village is located near Mesa Verde, Colorado, where beginning August 24 on ancient peoples built one of the first permanent settlements in North America. What did this Vegas PBS Channel 10 Jack Davenport (Pirates of the Caribbean, settlement look like and how did life here shape human history? “Smash”) stars as a brilliant London sur- geon in 1961, when doctors were treated like gods and acted the part. Also starring in this stylish story of a dark secret amid the complexities of the sexual revolution are Zoe Boyle (“Downton Abbey”), Catherine Steadman (“Mansfield Park”), Iain Glen (“Downton Abbey”), Natasha Little (“Case Histories”), Oliver Chris (“Sharpe’s Challenge”), Joanna Page ( Love Actually) and Shaun Dingwall (“Touching Evil”). In the premiere episode, Otto, a surgeon married to Elizabeth, has eyes for new nurse Angela. Angela’s sister, Jean, is engaged to Otto’s colleague Richard. Inspector Mulligan snoops around. Jean and Richard’s marriage gets off to a rocky start. Otto makes a break- through with Angela. Mulligan gives Elizabeth a menacing message. The team on location in Maryland

Chihuly Fire & Light Glass work by Dale Chihuly Saturday, August 30 at 9 p.m. on Vegas PBS Jackpot! At once organic and otherworldly, pure and complicated, Dale Chihuly's glass works brilliantly combine the simplicity of the medium with the extraordinary innovation of the artist. This special observes the artist at work with his team as he conceives and creates his most ambitious exhibition to date, Chihuly at the de Young. This 2008 exhibition included 11 galleries of new and archival works repre- senting the breadth and scope of the artist's creative vision during the last four decades. From the Mille Fiori (a 56-foot garden of glass) to the Saffron Tower (a 30-foot neon sculpture), Chihuly's exquisite sculptures challenge convention with bold color, dramatic forms and extraordinary composition. The film highlights the collaborative qualities of Chihuly’s creative process, in which he entrusts hun- dreds of talented glassblowers to execute his vision.
